“very relaxing holiday”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2010

just returned from 11nights ,weather was lovely, Tsilivi is beautiful everyone is very friendly. We ate in a different restaurant every night. The mavrikos is very good value for money, it is clean, decorated and furnished to a good standard. The pool area is lovely, we had no problems getting 6 sunbeds. Jackie behind reception is brilliant, always has a chat with you and is very helpful about things to do and places to go.

i found this hotel and looked it up on trip advisor as i had never been to zante before, when we arrived at the airport cosmos had put on a coach to take us to the hotel, as we were dropping off people at the hotels i was praying at each and every one of the hotels please dont let that be ours but none of them were (thank god) anyway we pulled up outside the mavrikos it was after 10 in the evening the place was beautiful, all lite up around the pool we got a welcome from the bar as we walked to reception, met a welsh lady called Jackie very friendly she gave us our key and directed us to our apartment not just a few seconds from the reception, when we got in our apartment i was so pleased it was clean tidy and inviting, we was so tired we got in to bed and went straight off to sleep, the next day we woke up opened the balcony doors to a wonderful view of lemon trees palm trees and a view of the sea from a far it was a lovely sight to wake up too especially as it was my birthday! what a great start to our holiday, the apartment had everything we needed two ring cooker fridge every cooking utensil we needed a toaster kettle ect, we ventured off to the beach which is a lovely short walk through streets full of little shops and restaurants and bars, the beach was perfect sun beds with umbrella are 3 euros each which is nothing for the day the sea is lovely and clear and shallow for quite a way in, there is a Greek man and lady with pedalos which are 15 euro for an hour kayaks 7 euro, and various bars, showers and toilets along the beach, there is also water sports down the left end of the beach, anyway back to the hotel jean is the lovely lady on the bar in the day time very friendly and full of local information great to talk too there are two guys on the bar in the evening one called keith and another scotish guy both very friendly too the hotel is great for familys or couples i think trip advisor was a Saviour with out it i doubt i would have had a great holiday, hope this helps anyone wanting to have a great holiday like me and katy did.
A BIG THANKYOU TO YOU ALL AT MAVRIKOS

perfectly situated to get to all the shops, restaurants and beach with a family atmosphere, all the staff were friendly and ready to help. Jackie in reception was always smiling and it was nice to hear a welsh accent which we did not excpect and Steve the joker behind the bar, the only problem was the world cup on the telly everywhere in tsilivi, went there to get away from the footie. thanks for a good week. mandy

we stayed at the Mavrikos in a self catering studio booked through the co-op and flew with Monarch. Zante airport is not as reported a chaotic place. it was nigh on abandoned when we arrived a 6pm.
Ok, lets get this out of the way now. The slope up to the hotel is not particularly steep and should pose no problem, unless you have mobility issues.
The standard of accomodation that we had was average, if a little small for a self catering studio. The studios are quite clearly hotel rooms, with a kitchen area shoe-horned in. It's ok for two, but no way are the studios suitable for three as advertised in the brochures. The equipment in the room was fine, the fridge was fantastic, as it run very quietly and kept drinks ice cold. The bathroom was small but functional, although the shower in my caravan was roomier. The usual unsavoury practice of having to put toilet paper into a bin due to useless greek plumbing applies.
The balconies are ok but are in too closer proximity to others.
The pool is fine and is perfect for families as it is quite shallow all round. But it is quite small for the size of the hotel and could quite easily get over run with children. Sun bed hogging was an issue.
The hotels stong point is its staff. They are vey helpful and is a pleasant balance of uk and local workers. As usual you have to pay extra for air con as well as deposits for the tv remote and the safe. Bare this in mind as it may eat in to you holiday money.
The only downside are the persistant hawkers selling pirated dvds and cds that come round up to 5 times a day, apparently with the hotels approval. The hotel also ignores no smoking rules, as does the whole of the resort.
There isn't much to Tsivili except fo its beach. It is a mass of bars and restaurants. The non-stop invites from restaurant owners trying to get you to eat in their establishments can become a little irritating after a while. a game to play is to look at the menu at Gyroland, and count how many seconds before the chinese woman pops up to annoy you. Places to eat are Popeyes, Family, Pierots, Contessas, 2 Brothers, and for a cheap blow-out Gyros, try Kolovos grill house.
All our day trips were booked through manfredas travel. Michael (who looks like Joey from friends) is very helpful and is quite happy to haggle. Your rep will charge loads more for the same trips.

my wife and i stayed at the mavrikos hotel self catering . from the moment we arrived we where made to feel very welcome ( i have rather a lot of tatoos wich some people associate that with being a thug !!! ha ha !! not me ) anyway the hotel is very nice the rooms are spacious and very well equipped for all your self catering needs . all the extras ie aircon and safe where a reasonable price. the hotel rules where great no loud music after midnight so every night was v.v quiet . room cleaned every day sheets and towels changed every day. the staff left you alone to get on with things but if you needed anything they were very helpfull ( big thankyou to jackie who finally got our room number right lol ) all in all a fantasic hotel lovely setting great staff great holiday see you again thanks rich the tattoed bloke and angela treseder ( room 201) 20th-27th june 2010.t

Stayed at the Mavrikos June 2010 for 2 weeks. The Owners and staff could not be more helpfull and friendly, any req we had were met. The Hotel is very clean and central, we would recomend it for a Happy Stay in Tsilivi.
People in the town are very friendly and the food was good in the resturant's we ate in
we would gladly return toTtsilivi and stay at The MAVRIKOS again.

Just returned from a week at the Mavrikos after a 24hr delay! not ther best end to our holiday and the start wasn't great either! The "30min" coach transfer took 2 and a half hours! We arrived hot and tired after a 6.30am flight only to be given a basement room (which I later found out was in the old staff quarters) It was disgusting! dark, dingy and smelt awful! So, back to reception to demand to be moved. We were told the hotel was full, I think overbooked was the correct term and if we came back at 10am the following day they "might" move us.By this time I was on the verge of tears at the though of spending a night in what was basically a cellar where all the cleaners trolleys were stored. Our welcome meeting was at 4.30pm that day so I fully intended asking to be moved to another Hotel.
However shorlty after we were told there had been a cancellation and another room was available( yeh right!!!) and we moved to a studio on the 2nd floor. This was a vast improvement. As you expect in Greece, very basic, twin beds and a small kitchen area (with a two ring hob, kettle, toaster and microwave) Bathroom with the tiniest shower cubicle I've ever seen! and small balcony, but at least it was above ground level and clean apart from the nasty smell from the drain in the bathroom.
The mavrikos is in a good position at the top of a short but steep hill. The pool area is nice if you can get a sunbed and the pool bar serves food all day and stays open till late.Jean,Steve and Keith are FAB! Not far to the beach, shops and restraunts. The Paradise bar at the bottom of the hill is great for a fun night and the staff are so friendly.
Once settled in we had a good holiday and I would recommend the Mavrikos with a few reservations.Firstly, get a taxi from and to the airport.Don't accept rooms with a number beginning in 0 (you'll be in the cellar) Take earplugs, it is quite noisy till the early hours, we overlooked the pool bar and although the music stops at midnight it's still noisy, It didn't bother us but it may some people. Lastly, get a taxi to the airport and get there early!!!! Zante airport is small hot and very crowded,we queued an hour and a half to check our bags in and then ended up delayed 18hrs, So keep some money in reserve just incase as food and drinks are mega expensive if you have to spend a day there.(We were bussed to a hotel at 7.30pm till 4.30am the next morning as the airport closes at night) Never been so glad to get home
