“Filoxenia part 2”
Reviewed 10 June 2013

Just returned from our second visit to this hotel and once again cannot fault them.
We got married in Tsivili this time around and both the hotel and the staff were excellent!
I do not know of many hotels where the staff remember you from a visit over 18 months previous! You will not be disappointed if you decide to go here for your vacation believe me. All staff members are helpful and courteous.
Unlike many hotels that I have stayed at before the staff at the filoxenia take a real interest in you and how you are enjoying your holiday. A few minutes of conversation from Gramos, Xristos, Sophia,Anna, Loukas or Dennis in the restaurant to a full talk with the bar staff, Gerry, Kostas or Fillipas makes your stay all the better. Diana and Angela at reception are also 2 of the nicest people that you will meet during your stay not to mention the night-shift watchman John. The maids in the hotel along with the kitchen and portering/maintenance staff also deserve to be mentioned as they all do a great job too.
If you want a clean, friendly and well maintained hotel in a fantastic island setting then you have to go to the filoxenia hotel,Tsivili.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main complex if you want a more relaxed holiday as the other nearby part of th...

Having spent the most fantastic 14 days here with my daughter and son-in-law and definitely did not want to go home.

You are greeted by friendly receptionists Angela/Diana along with a welcoming drink. Also the boys from the bar are there to help with the baggage. Also a disability lift beside the front steps for those with walking difficulties and babies in pushchairs. There is also a lift in the main block not sure about the block across the road.

The hotel is situated about 20 minutes walk from the hotel, or you can make use of the courtesy bus which is driven by Fatos - also the maintenance man who does an excellent job. There is also a small supermarket about 5-10 minutes down the road.

You can also get into Zante town by using public transport from opposite the hotel for about 1.30 euro or taxi for between 10-12 euro (one way), the bus can get very busy and they like to try and get you all on the bus.

We didn't find it necessary to leave the hotel daily as it was such a relaxing atmosphere.

As for the hotel - the rooms are of a very good size, we had a two bed apartment with one very large bed and two singles in the other room and balcony to each room which overlooked the pool/bar area.

The rooms are kept exceptionally clean by the cleaning staff, with clean towels and linen on a regular basis. The Chef Vaselios and his team did an excellent job with food for most tastes and a very good variety - plenty of it - would say you would have to be very picky not to find something - although Vaselios would cook you something if requested. Dennis and team for their work in the Dining Room and keep it running smoothly. Gerry/Kostos/Lucas for running the bar - and also the knack of remembering peoples drinks . Demitris the manager, congratulations for running such a family friendly hotel and your staff are a credit to you.

I would like to say thank you to all concerned for making this a fantastic holiday and also to new friends meet at this time.

Best wish to all and will be back - definitely next year

Room Tip: If you require a quiter room suggest that you book one in the other block (although the entertainmen...

We visited the Filoxenia as part of a package holiday with Thomas Cook (2 adult and 2 children aged 1 and 4).

The staff and the food was excellent. The pools were clean and well maintained.

The biggest let down was the poor quality of the drinks. The 'all inclusive' hotel charges for cocktails! OK fine, but they have no brand name products so your paying a high price for a 'Value' brand product. The mixers such as 'coke' were flat and tasted horrible and the juices and coffee were a joke. This left us feel ripped off.
Other disappointing areas was the 30-40 min walk to the beach and poor transport links (I appreciate this is not directly the hotels fault).
The evening meal starts to late, so not ideal for young children. They do offer a snack bar at set times but these are made up of junk foods.
The high chairs in the restaurant had no tray to place food on. So our child had to reach across to the table resulting in most of the meal ending up on the floor.
The children's playground was rubbish and there was little else to entertain young children.
The plastic furniture on the balcony was poor quality, especially the table which would spill your drinks if slightly knocked.

Overall the hotel was OK, perfect for families with older kids who like spending their holidays by the pool with the occasional trip out.

Hello Mike!

Thank you very much for taking the time to add your review on Filoxenia hotel and for choosing to share your thoughts with the rest of us.

First of all we would like to say a big thank you for your compliments on our staff and our chef’s efforts to keep you happy with his cooking. This is very much appreciated.
I see that there were some parts of our hotel that did not succeed on keeping you happy. Please allow us to express our frustration for this. We hope that these factors did not influence your overall holiday experience.

With all due respect please allow me to make some comments on what you have mentioned above.

With regards to our spirits and alcoholic drinks in general, as you have correctly said, cocktails are not included in the all inclusive package. This is something that happens with all the all inclusive establishments around Greece and it is stated in all the Tour operator’s brochures, so this information can be available before a guest completes a booking.
I am a little surprised to see that you feel ripped off as the cost of the cocktails is only 4 Euros ( same price as in all the bars around the resort).

Branded alcoholic drinks are always available in our bar as we have guests that sometimes prefer specific brands. As in all bars and pubs around the resort our cocktails are made of very good quality local branded alcohol and the cost is 4 Euros as I mentioned before. If someone likes a cocktail that consists only first line branded alcohol the cost of each one would be more than 8 Euros and this stands for every business in Greece that serves alcohol.

The total cost and taxes of the alcohol industry in general works that way that leaves businesses with no flexibility in terms of pricing I am afraid.

Regarding the coffee in our hotel I would like to inform you that we use Jacobs and this is a well known first line brand of high quality coffee. Even though its is not in our obligations we use branded coffee that is included in our all inclusive package. I am a little disappointed to see that you did not like its taste.

As for the mixers, we have done a lot of research and we think that we have selected the best supplier of mixers around Greece. The majority of guests seem to be satisfied with our selection. Nevertheless, as we value your opinion we will have a closer look into our mixers and see if we can ‘play’ with our measures of water and syrup so as to have a better result.

With regards to the transportation to the beach and the resort, we run a daily mini bus service that is very flexible with the timetable. As you do not clarify, I hope that you had the chance to use it as all the other guests of the hotel do.

Our dinner time is at 7pm on a daily basis and I am afraid that this cannot be changed. It is the first time we receive a comment that refers to the time of the dinner. In all European countries the official dinner time is more or less 7pm and this is the reason we have come to this selection.

We would like you to know that every single comment of yours will be taken into serious consideration. We are looking closely to each one of them and we will be happy to make any adjustments needed always with the aim of our guest’s satisfaction.

We would like to thank you for taking sometime to go through our response and for sharing your opinion with us. If you need to discuss any of the above, please feel free to contact us via email. We wish you have a great winter back home. Greetings from all the staff and family at Filoxenia.

We stayed here at the beginning of May after being really badly let down at last minute by the Louis Palazzo Di Zante hotel and had a really great week.

I wont comment on what star rating it is as that is subjective. What I will say is that the food was of an excellent standard (variety, quality, quantity etc) and we especially enjoyed the Greek food.

The staff were all really friendly and helpful, the room was large, spacious and always clean and the pool was always clean too.

OK so you’ve a 15minute walk into the village and beach but it’s a nice walk or you can go in the complimentary bus that leaves each morning.

The village too is really nice - lots of friendly bars and restaurants to try - if you don’t want to be tied to the hotel.

We had a really good value for money holiday and the fact that lots of people (families and couples) return, year after year, speaks for itself.

Room Tip: No need to rush to the restaurant as soon as it opens... there’s always plenty to eat. Oh and watch...

Just returned from a great 14 night family holiday (6 adults, 4 children aged 13, 12, 10, and 5). The staff are outstanding - friendly, courteous and helpful. A special thank you to Valentino and Oscar who worked so hard to keep us all entertained and were especially good at including all the children in the activities/games, irrespective of age. However, they were never pushy if we just wanted to relax and the holiday would not have been the same without them. Food was very good quality and varied - Vasilos, the Chef, was very obliging and hygiene was excellent. Rooms were spacious with large beds and were thoroughly cleaned each day by the excellent maids. (beds a bit too hard and decor dated). Two nice pools with sufficient sunloungers/umbrellas. There is a free minibus service to town/beach. Finally, thank you to Diana and Angela on reception, Dennis, Gramos, Luca and Sofia in the restaraunt, Gery and Kostas in the pool bar, Fatos the minibus driver and maintenance man and all the other staff for the excellent service we received. To Dimitri, the Manager, congratulations on running a lovely hotel - you should be very proud of your staff ! Best wishes from Bill and family - Rooms 106, 210, 211.

I don't usually write reviews but in this case I felt I had to. Returned 3 days ago from this fabulous hotel (I'm sorry to say!). Traveled with my husband & 2 daughters aged 13 & 10 years, my sister, her husband & children aged 12 & 6 & both of my parents. All 10 of us echo all of the lovely comments written about the staff in the other reviews, it's boring to be unable to say anything different, but the staff are indeed what sets this hotel apart from other similar places.

First, practical things: the lovely rooms are incredibly spacious, have nice decor & are kept very clean. The very large beds are fabulous for spreading out, they are too hard for my liking but may suit some. As the hotel is quite small we found this made things easier practically, especially in enabling us to keep an eye on the children yet give them a bit a freedom too. The size maybe also added to the 'homely' feel as we settled in and felt comfortable & relaxed on our first day. Well located, it is a comfortable 15-20 minute walk (if you choose) to main part of town which was pleasant with friendly shop owners. The courtesy mini bus to the town (and beach at the far side of town) was very helpful also, thank you. The hotel is also well located to visit the smallish but pleasant waterpark in Tsilivi (not walkable though, about a 5 minute drive) and this is worth a visit with children.

The food is lovely & generally consists of fresh organic veg, fish & meat. Also available is a vegetable, egg or meat based dish, pasta, (kids meals and chips cooked to order) and a cooked to order 'show cooking' dish in an evening. Cheese and a variety of salads & salad items also at every meal. I don't eat red meat but didn't have problems as there was always either chicken, turkey, fish or vegetable dishes as an option. I didn't get bored of the food as I thought the variety was good, maybe not the massive array of choice at each meal as often the case in larger 'all inclusives' but certainly not limited & quality, hygiene & presentation scored very highly with us. Excellent head chef (Vasielos) and his team, thank you for cooking delicious food.

Now to the staff, who, without exception, are friendly, warmly welcoming, excellent at their jobs & very professional. Denis manages the restaurant with a friendly manner & has an ever watchful eye on all that is going on (nothing slips past him) and is very good at his job. All the restaurant staff are lovely & very efficient & I'm sorry all can't be mentioned, Grammos (our fantastic and funny singing waiter!), Sofia and Luca (who also works on the bar in the 'evening entertainment room') we liked VERY much and all seem such genuinely nice people. The bar staff, Gerry and Kristos, again, a real pleasure to have met. Diana and Angela on reception are also really lovely, helpful and very welcoming. Fatos is very obliging, he does a fantastic job on keeping the pool clean, maintenance and driving the courtesy bus. An extra special mention to the ever enthusiastic animation staff, Valentino and Oscar. Because of the nature of their job, we spent more time with them than the other staff and Valentino really does do an excellent job without being too pushy, he has a great way with children and adults alike, very likeable and seems a very genuinely 'warm' person who loves to be with the guests. Valentino is an asset to the hotel and I could imagine he would do a very good job if promoted to 'Head of Animation' so that he could put his 'people skills' and experience to maximum use. It certainly wouldn't have felt the same without him (Wednesdays were very quiet!). Oscar is very new to the job so will benefit from experience. However, he is also very likeable, includes everyone, works hard, does his job very well and balances out the 'lively and loud' character of Valentino (meant only in a nice way!). The 'Head of Animation', Alex, was not around and involved regularly so we didn't consider him as part of the 'staff' but on the few occasions that we did see him we felt he lacked the 'warmth' and natural ability with people that Valentino has. This, in combination with not 'knowing' the guests in the same way meant that on the very few nights he did the entertainment it lacked the same feel and enjoyment we were used to.

Dmitri, the manager is also a very nice man, often around, keeping a watchful eye and getting involved if required. He is considerate of what guests say (and I think maybe he looks after his staff well too) which is probably how he has such a such a successful team and runs a hotel where guests feel truly happy and relaxed from the beginning. Even having had 2 weeks here we were surprised to find that we weren't ready to come home. Using the words of Valentino, our holiday is 'caput' and for me it is 'catastroph'! I have found it hard to be back, particularly because I have found myself missing the lovely people we had to say goodbye to. One thing is for sure though, for many years to come when I remember this special holiday it will make me smile. Thank to all of you for the happy memories.

Hello Amanda!

Thank you so much for spending some of your valuable time to add those wonderful memories of yours into words. Your review has put a smile on everyone’s face and we would like to thank you for that.

One thing that comes in my mind and I totally support that is that true relationships and authentic feelings are the ones that count. Small everyday things that make a huge difference like a warm good morning, or sharing a laugh, or get sometime to care for someone you do not know. This is what counts for us and all the staff at Filoxenia and this makes proud for one another.

We would like to say a massive thank you for your kind words on us and for giving a very special mention to each member of the staff. This is very much appreciated and it makes us feel honored to have people like you as guests in our home.

You positive energy is our motive and your kind feedback is our passion injection for our work that we love so much. Your kindness mean a lot to us!
