Ariadne is a lovely place to stay.

The rooms are what I expected. You have a bed / bathroom with shower and bath (no plug) /little kitchen area and balcony. We were so lucky we had the top room 402. The views were amazing.

The pool is clean and tidy. It's bigger than the pictures show it as and it also has a jacuzzi that you need to ask in the bar to turn on and off.

The bar is nice also. There is entertainment on Friday nights and a BBQ on Wednesday nights - these are a must.

The family are lovely. We often saw the owner running about and cleaning up/mowing the lawns etc.
Pammela is always in the bar area - fair play that woman works long hours!! And her mother in law cooks in the kitchen. Her daughter Elinor is sooo cute.
Anything we needed/ wanted done they were able to help ( shower head needed cleaning and my husband wanted the F1 and Rugby on and it was no problem at all)

The hill.....it wasn't as bad as I was imagining but it is a big one! It goes in a s-bend and has 3 sections to it. I every day had to stop and catch my breath on a few occasions - Esp in the day.

We loved the village at the bottom on the hill turn right and keep going.
There is also a lovely restaurant - dionasis ( at the bottom of the hill go left then right you get I planos bar turn right - 16€ for 2 specials a free 1/2 karaf wine and free dessert - it was lovely) we tried lots more but everyone has their own taste.

If your 50/50 about going - just do it - you won't regret it.

As two 20 year old bestfriends we were hesitent about booking somewhere we hadn't been before.
other than the steep hill which by the end of the holiday we could run up the hotel was lovely!
Close enough to town, lovely views, nice breeze As you are high up!
hotel not for young party people which we liked! Quiet round the pool!
Family feel.
Despite what people say beds are ok! And rooms are very clean!
Family are ok and come alive during entertainment at night :)
Would 100% reccomend!!!!
Lovely lovely lovely

Stayed here for one week and we can't wait to go back.
From the minute we arrived we were made very welcome, by the lovely family who run the hotel.

Our room (403) had an amazing view and was always kept very clean.
While we stayed there was a BBQ / Greek night and also a music night which was really good fun.
The pool area was lovely, just ideal for a nice relaxing break.
Would definately book to stay there again.

The hotel was clean at all times, but the staff were very offish, never spoke all fortnight unless you spoke to them even though they were at the hotel at all times.
The pool area was brilliant but...music was played rarely and when it was, it was old Greek music or music of the past, never anything update.
There was never a pleasant atmosphere created by the owners only what we made it ourselves.
There was no activities whatsoever only friday nights when the owners son played a guitar.
It was also at the top of a steep hill not easy to get to in the heat.
Unfortunately the beds were extremely uncomfy.

Room Tip: high floors are the only good option here.

Just returned from a week at the ariadne hotel apartments at tsivilli. I was a little sceptical having paid only £300 per person, however chose this hotel due to its location (away from the hustle and bustle of town). First impressions were that of a clean modern hotel. Check in was brief, if you need anything just go down to the bar, which is where they are based throughout the day.

We stopped in a studio, which whilst small seemed reasonable enough. Kitchen facilities are poor, but I tend not to go on holiday to slave over the stove. However for those who wish to cater for themselves, the equipment provided seemed a little inadequate.

The Bathrooms whilst adequate and clean are looking tired and in need of a spruce up. I'm easily pleased but if small bits of black mold in the tiles and sealant put you off, you have been warned.
The beds - not great to be honest, but my intentions were not to spend all day in them, more a place to crash for the night. Hard would be an understatement, I have found planks of wood softer.
The balcony and views are very good with views of Kefalonia and Greece mainland on a clear day. Try to avoid rooms near the bar area or lower floor as views may be a little restricted.

The pool area and bar are very pleasant, however you are not allowed to bring your own food or drinks to the pool area. However it is only a few minutes to all rooms. Drink prices were about 4 euros for beer, 2 euros for a can of coke and 50cents for a small water. Meals on offer varied in price between 4-7 euros and tended to be brit classics with chips. Quality of food was okay.

We spent a few days by the poolside, as in truth after a day you have seen tsivili if you are quick on your feet.

THE HILL - Having read previous reviews I didn't know what to expect, however its no more than a few minutes at best and is a good way of walking off the everything with chips.

Tsivilli as a resort is a town of two sides. If you like being a brit abroad, at the bottom of the hill turn right, where you will find plenty off british bars fishbowls and all. Turn left and take your second right and whilst still feeling very british has a more easy going relaxed feel to it. I noticed this seemed to be a favourite of locals. Well worth on a clear night walking around the shore at this end via a shoreside bar to watch the sunset.

Overall we enjoyed our holiday. The Hotel location saved it. Hospitality at the ariadne seemed mixed dependent on if you had been there before or in our case if you had not. Its clean and adequate but lacks creature comforts. However I did not expect five star hotel for 3 star money.
If you want a relaxing break, then apart from the location, the ariadne lacks the comforts that some better hotels have, however if on a budget may be worth a try.

I have visited many Greek islands and have to say, if you wish for a peaceful tranquil holiday, avoid Zante and visit the neighbouring Kefalonia. However if you fancy bars and multiple restaurants, and a week on the beach, then Tsivili may be worthwhile.

Room Tip: level three for best views

We have just returned from a weeks stay here. We can honestly say we really enjoyed it here and would recommend to anyone. We felt everyone here from staff to other hotel guests were so friendly and we felt so welcome. We had room 403 which was massive with a double balcony! Plus a amazing view! Very clean everywhere in the hotel also.
The hill is a little steep but I wouldn't worry about it unless you have mobility issues. The positives of this hotel far outweighed the hill.

Room Tip: The earlier you book the better. They allocate rooms on first come first served basis

This is the first time I have disagreed with the majority of reviews for a property on tripadvisor. We always check out the reviews on here before booking a hotel.
We arrived at the hotel to a lovely clean and reasonably spacious reception and was quickly checked in. I feel check in was very quick and impersonal however I dismissed this as there were other people waiting. More on the Ariadne's lack of hospitality later.

On entering the studio we were hit with a very warm and humid room (almost as if heating had been put on and the shower left to run!) However we decided to see if the room would cool down with the balcony doors open, which it eventually did. So we did not bother paying for air conditioning. We arrived on a day when the temperatures where not at there highest. For the rest of the week the room did not feel as hot and as humid as when we arrived despite temperatures and humidity rising! The room never felt too hot after that first night.
On first inspection the studio seemed clean enough although there was mildew marks on the sealant in the bathroom.

The hotel describes the kitchenette as well equipped but I feel this is not so, there is only one plug socket in the kitchenette area so doing something as simple as beans on toast means doing them one at a time unless you move the toaster to another socket. If we had not bought our own tin opener something like beans on toast would be impossible as there was not a can opener. The equipment provided include toaster, kettle (we did not use this as it smelled strongly of descaler despite repeatedly boiling and emptying the kettle), microwave, two electric rings. three knives, three forks, three spoons and three teaspoons (which were dirty as obviously the previous occupants had made tea but not bothered to buy washing up liquid which was not provided), a useless "sharp knife" chopping board, colander, a very large sauce pan, a very small saucepan, a frying pan (although now egg slice so fried eggs may be a problem), a wooden spoon, a wooden fork, two mugs, three glasses, three plates and two side plates and three small microwaveable tub (large enough to fit a tin of beans in) No washing up equipment was provided except the sink.

Therefore if you are on a budget and wanted to prepare yourself the occasional meal, you would need to be very creative.

The wardrobes were just about ample for three.

We had a nice view although I think it is slightly over rated, very nice though but have had many rooms with better views. We booked very late, so do not understand comments from other websites that the earlier you book the higher the room, in that case we should have been on pool level. The balcony was nice enough although only had seating for two even though we were a party of three, luckily our youngest member did not mind sitting on a stool. The balcony is also the only option for eating your meals unless you take the table inside as no other table and chairs are provided, we have stayed in other basic accommodation across Greece, Spain and the rest of Europe and this is the first time no table has been provided inside to eat your meals at. Yes you could eat a sandwich on the end of your bed but the less time spent on them the better!

Which brings me on to the Ariadne's biggest downfall the sleep quality, we were lucky we had quiet people next to us however we could still hear them switching lights on and off and hear them going to the toilet but this really is the least of your problems when you are sleeping on beds which are ROCK HARD. My sides were left bruised and my back fell out with me. They are the worse beds I have ever slept on. The pain they cause results in you waking at regular intervals. We have a firm bed at home but it felt so soft on our return we thought we were sleeping on air the first night back. I did use blankets to soften the bed and as this is a family run hotel no comments or solution was offered when the cleaners came in and saw I was using blankets to soften the bed, even with the blankets I was still waking each morning feeling bruised. Only one pillow per person is provided, there were larger cushions available but these could not be used to sleep on.

Once the balcony doors were closed we did not hear too much external noise.

The bed linen and towels were only changed twice during our stay, although it was supposed to be every other day. The cleaning was ok although we were in when the cleaners came once and the mop they were using smelt of sick (it could have been the cleaning chemicals smell). The cleaning was perfunctory, a quick sweep or mop, empty of bins and bit of bleach around the toilet.

The pool area was probably the strength of this hotel, no one reserved sunbeds at stupid o'clock as there are more than enough available, a nice touch was the provision of water air beds and balls to use in the pool. The water temperature was variable but mostly on the cool side but bearable on the hotter days. We used the pool most days and it is at the pool bar you will find the family who run the hotel.

Not once were we asked if we were having a nice holiday etc. We often bought drinks and snacks at the bar as you are not allowed to eat/ drink your own food at the pool (fair enough times are hard). This rule however does not seem top apply if you are a regular. When eating in the pool bar we were never asked if we had enjoyed our food etc. The food was good although it is only sandwiches, chips, pizzas, burgers etc. We enjoyed the meals we had but would no way describe them as amazing.
Other reviewers have described the family as good hosts but I experienced no hospitality from them whatsoever. We were not even wished a good journey home. It was quite sad really on other pick ups owners were waving their guests off. I did notice those who did get any sort of conversation from them had been there previously or spent all day every day at the pool and got lots of drinks and had breakfast and lunch there. I do not go on holiday to spend all my time at the pool.

We did go and see the entertainment they provide and this was quite fun and the only time we felt welcome at the hotel. We found the family very indifferent, they were not rude but just not that welcoming.

And last of all the hill-not once did any of our party complain about the hill even on the hottest of days. It is only really steep for part of it. You do not need to be fit even to walk up it. I would not let the hill put you off from booking this hotel, it means you are away from the hustle and bustle.

To summarise a nice clean hotel in an ideal location, just a shame about the hard beds and lack of hospitality. Despite the lack of hospitality I would only return IF they had more comfortable.
