Only just returned from our stay at The Zante Maris, and would like to say thank you to all staff, especially Becci & Bella excellent bar waitresses. The hotel is in a superb location, pretty central to the town, and right on the beach. I thought the food to be a little dull, and I would prefer a bit more choice, if you are a dessert fan, you will be disappointed, saying that its a small price to pay for such a nice hotel, we had a very relaxing restful time, helped along by some great company, who we met whilst there - Trekkie Kevin & his lovely wife Sue.
We will go back in the future at some point.

We have stayed in Tsilivi on about 15 occasions and stayed at the Zante Maris for the last five.

However we will not stay there again as they are taking away the Bed and Breakfast option and going All Inclusive only. Less British tourists and more Eastern Europeans seem to frequent the resort these days and It appears that the Zante Maris have decided that they will therefore cater for them and go down the All Inclusive route. Although we were half board this year we dined out most nights as did quite a few other guests we spoke to.

Unfortunately these All Inclusive packages are killing the local bars and restaurants and over the last few years quite a few have closed. Places like Popeyes who serve first class food, used to have people queueing up the steps to get tables, but are now nowhere near as busy.

The Zante Maris is clean and the rooms are fine, breakfast is ok but nothing special. The general staff are fine but one or more on the front desk could do with some customer relations training.

Our only real gripe is the dog that roams the property and either does its business on the grass around the swimming pool, or on the beach in front where young children play in the sand. We also heard of one guest saying the dog slept in their room every night of their holiday ( not very hygienic for future guests )

We spent one lovely week in mid September in Hotel Zante Maris.

Location: Right on the beach and very near the center of Zante, great!

Cleanness: Nothing to complain there .The house-keeping always came very late in the afternoon, but they did a good job. Towels were changed every day, which was not even necessary. Had some problems with the shower and hot water and also with the lock of the terrace door, but these were so tiny problems that we did not let them bother us. Room was big enough, big TV-screen, but some of the channels "misty".

Staff: No complains here either. Always helpful, almost always smiling. Managed usually to keep the tables free from dishes, only one dinner was a chaos, when nearly all the regular staff had a free evening at the same time.

Food: We had The All Inclusive - System. Breakfast was great, enough both cold and hot dishes, also espresso, cappucino etc. Lunch OK, who needs a gourmet in the mid day heath?
Dinner: A huge disappointment : Salads 85 % same every night. We liked to go "late" (8.15-8.30) to the dinner and all we got was pasta in different shapes, "pizza", which was actually quite good, some potatoes and tomatoes and deep-fried chicken, pork or fish. I did not see any kind of crayfish in the whole week! One evening we went in early (7.15) and the food was better then ( not only deep-fried...). The best food we got at the b barbecue in the beach bar. Desserts were ok. Red wine drinkable, also beer. Coktails and other drinks you could mix your self, which was ok, only the blenders were too sweet. Well, actually best food we got last night, when we went out for dinner. The Taverna was called Benicos ( I think..?) and I can highly recommend it ( in the center, left from the main street opposite of a Asian-Chinese restaurant).

Pool area: Clean and big enough. A very nice surprise was, that there were some "swimming mattresses" to use for the hotel guests, we really enjoyed them both in the pool and in the sea. Yes, the sufficiency of the sun beds is a problem. Mid September there were enough of them but in the high season it must be a problem. We were swimming early before breakfast and the other of our hotel towel was mysteriously disappearing... You can make your own conclusions...But please, take your own towels with you so you`ll be spared of the bitter after-taste we got from the way the woman in the reception treated us when telling her about the towel.

Levante Speedboat Excursions: DON´T MISS IT!

Just returned from 2 lovely weeks at the Maris Hotel. This hotel has a very homely feel to it, very relaxed and wonderful staff, Dritan appears to be the Manager, Entertainment Manager and Restaurant Manager all rolled into one. He arranges the water volley ball, plays table tennis and also joins in with Zorba's dance on the Greek Night. His wife Bella is a star, on the second night we were there, she came up to us and said "Archers and Lemonade and a large beer" ? which was exactly what we had ordered the night before. We had emailed the hotel before we went out and asked for an upper floor and also asked about pool towels (they provide these with a payable deposit) - Christiana on reception replied to these and said that she would arrange it. When we booked in she remembered our name gave us our key and said that we had been given a room on the second floor and hoped that it would be to our liking - I think it took five minutes in total. The First Choice reps were great. i went to see Matt on our third day and said that we had forgotten to pack our phone charger and asked where we could buy one - he immediately said not to worry you can borrow mine - well beyond the call of duty I think. He is also a very funny guy. The "swop box" is a great idea, we took some shower gel and after sun and put some other things back in when we left. The food could have been better, but perhaps we are a bit picky. As far as sun beds are concerned we went to breakfast early and then down to the pool and always got a bed. The one thing that does annoy us are the ones who reserve a bed early in the morning and don't appear until the afternoon. One day the pool many took all the towels off and left them in a pile . The looks on some peoples faces was a joy to behold. If you were sitting on your bed at time he did not worry - so the answer is get a sunbed and lie on it!!! dont't reserve one if you do not intend the use it. Room was pretty basic but comfortable, air conditioning was almost to good, if you had it on at night you could wake up frozen. Bathroom could do with a spruce up and the plumbing is a bit hit and miss , sometimes there would be no hot water and other times it would be boiling. Anyway this is the first hotel we have ever said we would not mind going back to. Well done

Room Tip: if you want a special room email them before you go and be polite do not demand

we just got back from zante maris hotel, 2nd time there. good hotel, very clean inside and outside. the beach is wonderful, just at the back of the hotel, we went everyday, well worth 6 euro for 2 loungers and a
brolly just to hear the waves lapping around was bliss, the sea was like a warm bath when we went in for a dip.

the little village is a stones throw from the hotel and is quite nice to wander around in the evening, and the shopkeepers don't hassle you to come in and buy.

the rooms are clean but could do with a refurb and a touch of paint, our curtains and bedcover were so dated.
there was tea and coffee facilities making in room.
no iron or ironing board in the room.
the dining room was clean and staff very helpful and cleared away the plates quite quickly, plenty of food to eat, fresh fruit was limited to apples and oranges cut into quarters, not a banana in sight!!

drinks for A/I guests was fine in the day time were ice was plentiful and drinks was cold, evening was a different story altogether, warm drinks, all we got was one lump of ice in a warm glasss of flat cola and flat beer, we always had to ask for more ice when we ordered a drink, in the pool bar it was help yourself to ice and drinks during the day which was a much better idea.
the indoor pool as supposed to be heated but it was freezing.
the entertainment in the evening was awful but it went over round 11.30 ish pm..

on a positive note we had a good holiday with plenty of sun and friendly people around, for anyone who likes a beach holiday this is ideal.

We' ve been in Zante Maris hotel in Zakynthos , Greece in August 2011 in all inclusive system. The location is excellent, right on the beach. The sunbeds around the pool area and those from the grass were free. Only the suneds from the beach were 3euro/ piece (6 euro for 2 sunbeds and one umbrella). But the grass is 15 m fom the water so you don't need to rent any sunbeds. The food was excellent and diferent every day: chicken, beef, pork, fish, barbeque, mussels, crabs , turkey etc. The pool was very nice and clean (the same the pool for kids). The rooms are excellent, very big and new (they were renovated ). The hotel is situated close to the center of Tsilivi and close to the Zante Town (which is very nice ). We choose this hotel because I wanted to visit the shipwreck Navagio (it was indeed one of the most beautiful beaches in the world). The sand is white and the water is blue as the sky. I have traveled a lot (Turkey, Tunis, Egipt, Portugal, South America etc) but I had never been to the ionic sea, so I had to choose between Corfu and Zakynthos. I chose the last one to visit Navagio. The best way to get there is with Levante speed boat (captain Spiros is great). If your agency is offering the same trip for 30 euros, with the Levantes it is 40 euro but they are the best. We were 4 aults and a 3 years old child. If we were taking the trip offered by our agency or by the local agencies, that would mean 45minutes by bus in order to pick up everybody, then 6 hours buy boat , getting to an 8 hour trip which is very exosting. Also we visited during the same trip the blue caves and by boat it was impossible for us to get into the caves (we were able to do that with Levante ). They have 2 trips which include Navagio, the blue caves and Ag. Nikolas. We were alone on the beach (navagio) so we could enjoy it- when the big boats arrive there tere are like 600 people on the beach. Also, captain Spiros stopped into a cave and we could swim inside it- this never happens with a big boat. Also if you stay at Zante Maris hotel (which is the best on the island) you canwalk for 10 minutes in order to get to the Levante Speed boat (we didn't need to take any bus).

So, everything was great. The hotel has only 3 bad things: the nonalchoholic drinks are not original; they do not have a very good animation team and the desserts are not very varied.

But everything else was great.
