We stayed here for two weeks in July and had a really good and relaxing time. The hotel is situated on a lovely sandy beach. The nearby town is just a few minutes walk away but the hotel is situated in a very quiet spot. The hotel has plenty of sun beds, a good sized pool, a lovely beach bar with a beautiful view of kefalonia. The hotel grounds and facilities are very clean. My only criticism would be that the garden area with sun beds on inside the hotel wall was very overgrown and weedy.
The food was very good with plenty of choice. The theme nights at the beach bar were fantastic with lots of delicious choices. I would recommend going to these as a good way of breaking up the monotony of the main restaurant. Sunday night in the main restaurant was melt in the mouth roast beef, carved by chef George. Drinks were good with plenty of choice, self service in the restaurant at lunch time, served to you in the evening. Breakfast food was very good again plenty of choice but breakfast service needs improving, there were piles of dirty plates everywhere and the table cloths weren't changed. So you either had to clear the tablecloth yourself or sit at a dirty table.

In the evenings the main bar gets very crowded, we went to the beach bar a lot for our evening drinks which was a lot quieter and has that lovely view to look at. The daytime and evening entertainment wasn't that great and the evening entertainment starts far too late.

Our room was very spacious, very clean, comfy bed, and we had a sea view. The bathroom could do with improvement though, the shower curtain rail kept falling down and the shower head squirted water out sideways resulting in pool of water on the floor after every shower. Tea coffee and water in room which was fantastic. Also slippers and dressing gowns.

All the staff in the hotel from the maids to the reception staff were very friendly and welcoming. Hattie the rep fantastic.

There are various trips you can go on around the island and we went on the first choice shipwreck trip which took us on a trip across the island and over the mountains through beautiful villages and onto pretty Porto vromi. From there we got on a small boat to the shipwreck. Throughout the whole trip we were given an amazing amount of information about the island from James the tour guide, who was just brilliant.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and zante, a beautiful island, we will be going back again.

On the whole this hotel came up to our expectations, with only some minor issues (I will expand on these later). 20 minute transfer from airport, swift getaway too, easy check-in and in time for lunch. Our rooms were fine, the bathroom looked a bit scruffy on the ceiling and the grouting around the bath, but with cleaning done every day and clean towels every day, clean sheets every other day, tea and coffee and water replaced daily, it seems a bit picky to mention the scruffy bits! The restaurant is large and clean, not sure if the air-con was adequate as it was impossible to keep the doors shut. The food choice was varied and plentiful even for the most picky eater - I have coeliac disease and had emailed in advance re gluten free options as was told to enquire in the restaurant, which I did, but the person I spoke to didn't understand "gluten free" and I never did get an answer, but nonetheless I was able to eat very well, and I always take my own bread on holiday. Our grandchildren were always able to find something they liked to eat. There are regular themed nights at the beach bar, we went to the Italian, Mediterranean, and the barbeque, and all were very good - one niggle, on the Mediterranan night a very large party of people arrived from another hotel, and although the food was plentiful and enough it was very crowded and slow moving to get food. On a similar note, Saturday night is Greek night and a large party of people came to eat (admittedly not until just before 9 p.m.) but then lots of extra tables and chairs were put out to accommodate them to watch the entertainment which made the outside area over-crowded - this hotel was probably already at capacity with guests anyway, the restaurant could seem very crowded at mealtimes regardless of what time you went. The pool area and childrens pool were absolutely fine with lots of sunbeds, and despite requests from the staff you are never going to stop people putting towels on sunbeds, so if you can't beat them ....... we needed to sit by the childrens pool to watch our grandchildren. There is an outdoor shower too. It is only a path down to the beach, which is mostly a lovely sandy beach with various watersports - I think the beach is now at capacity, it was very busy, and much as we like the beach we tended to stay by the pool and walk down to the sea when we wanted a change. The beach bar does an excellent job of serving food up until 1 p.m., and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the drinks are self service apart from beer served from behind the bar, and an outside bar which takes over later. It was lovely to sit with a drink about 5 pm. watching the sea! We saw half a dozen cats around the place over our 2 week stay, which doesn't bother us in the slightest although I know some people object, but we noticed a small fluffy grey and white female cat who we christened "Fluffer", and we saved up our scraps and fed her every day at the beach bar, by the hedge, between 4.30 and 5.30 p.m. - please look out for her and help her!! I agree with some other reviews about the entertainment - Hayley Bell (singer) was superb, Deano (singer) was superb, Greek night was superb, but the bingo and quizzes rarely started before 10.15, so if you have children they may well be fed up by then. I also think they could look at putting on some children's entertainment between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. which would certainly keep the kids happy. In summary I would recommend this hotel because of it's position on the beach, the cleanliness of all areas, the variety of good food, and the polite and helpful staff who were all great, but in particular Paul, Anna Marie, and Georgia who helped us so much when my son slipped in the bathroom and cut his hand - thank you Georgia!! Tsilivi itself has become like so many Greek villages, totally commercialised and full of noise - we visited 18 years ago and we were dismayed to see the "progress". If you would like to see a touch of the old Greece hire a car and go to Keri, and to Aghios Sostis where you will find an authentic Greek taverna called El Greco. Both journeys will take you about an hour going via Zakynthos town along the harbour front - take the road on the left of "That Bar" and follow the signs, when you have gone along the harbour front follow the signs for Laganas to eventually get to Aghios Sostis, and Keri, which is a bit further on.

Room Tip: Rooms on the side facing the Phoenix Beach hotel are quieter with the sun the mornings and shade in the evenings, most also have a side sea view and although overlooking a road it is only a narrow road down to the beach so doesn't get too busy.

Just back from our 8th visit to Zante Maris, and as a frequent visitor I probably view the hotel differently than first time guests. The hotel does have a need for a slight tweak, but only as far as the entertainment is concerned. This is very much the same as it has been for the last few years.Pop quiz, general knowledge quiz, singers, and a Greek night, which is probably the best on the island.People we spoke to were full of praise for the entertainment,so perhaps it may be a case of familiarity breeding contempt with us.
The hotel is still perfect(apart from beingAI.The staff are superb throughout, with special mention to Georgia the restaurant manager, she is infectiously happy 24/7.Hattie the First Choice rep. was quite special. She was always helpfull but never in your face.
The food is spot on,with plenty of choice to satisfy the hardest to please guests, and the portions are up to yourself.
The drink options are as adequate as any other AI package.
There appears to be a new game amongst the guests.Basically, take a plate, see how many slices of melon you can pile on it(it doesn't matter if you drop any on the floor, just leave them there as the staff soon clear them up) then see how many slices you can leave or waste.
As this is a new game the brits have not got the hang of it yet ,so the eastern europeans win every time! Ah well.
Now the jewell in the crown-- the Reception Staff. They are the most cooperative you will come across anywhere nothing is too much trouble for them, and their local knowledge is second to none.Hattie, the rep said it is the best reception staff that she has ever worked with.
We are now in the process of planning our 9th visit for next year.
If you are going to visit this year save extra weight in your suitcase by not taking towels,as the hotel hires them for10 euros each. You can change them as often as you wish, and the money is refunded in full when you finally hand them in.

Very relaxing family holiday, nice pool, nice beach, good food. Entertainment in the evening was a bit loud for my taste on some evenings (and the music didnt please my teenager) but otherwise everybody was very happy and it was a great holiday. Good excursions possible from hotel.
