Firstly, I have backpacked round the Greek islands in the past so I am not someone just accustomed to 5 star boutique hotels in my life. But what I do expect is value for money!! We were greeted on arrival with the sound of a cement mixer opposite where there is substantial building works going on this season (2017) to a church holiday center directly opposite the cottage. The inside is very dark and dingy and being on one floor, we didn't feel safe to leave the shutters open for ventilation at night.( No air con). It is very remote but not in a good way. The walk back from Kassioppi of an evening was lined with huge bins spilling over with rubbish. A feeding place for all the stray dogs and cats. At some parts of the walk it was very scary as we passed woods and had to use our torch as no street lights Not great with a young daughter.. "Charming" was a word to describe the cottage on the Agni website. I would say needs an over hall & brightening up. Not difficult as it is tiny. The mattresses and pillows were rock hard so couldn't sleep. Electric sockets wobbled about as you used them. Garden furniture cracked and only 2 sunbeds for 3 of us. The religious center was so noisy in the morning from 8 am. they would sleep 1-3 pm and would sing through a microphone and encourage the kids to bang on tables after each song until 12 am, (not very christian), so it was difficult to find peace and quiet and unwind. The nearest beach is very stony and they continue into the sea. so disappointing as I know how beautiful the sea can be when you find a sandy cove on a Greek island. On the plus side the food was amazing in the towns tavernas and the locals very hospitable. Final note, earplugs needed as the tzitzikia or grasshoppers are particularly noisy here. There are lots of mosquitoes so need repellent.
This is a truly wonderful, traditional cottage that has been carefully renovated so that it still retains its charm & ambience. The villa is situated at the end of a no through road so there is a little if any traffic, just other holiday makers returning to their villas.
The pool & garden area are lovely, a huge lemon tree providing a plentiful supply of fresh lemons for the old G & T.
A car is an advantage though not an necessity, but we found one useful enabling us to drive to other bays in the immediate area & of course their tavernas!
