The best boutique hotel we have stayed in- immaculate service, friendly staff, the place is spotless, the rooms are well designed and spoacious, and the overall experience was magnificant. Ricardo and Valentino's personal attention was just the right balance. We will definately be back.

We had a wonderful time at Waterlovers. From handling our reservation, to helping us book a safari, to welcoming us and looking after us throughout our stay, Riccardo, Valentina and their superb team could not be faulted. The resort is exquisitely designed and every little detail well thought of. Rooms are beautifully planned, with large and comfortable four poster beds with huge mosquito nets, and well ventilated with the addition of fan and air conditioning. Wi-fi is excellent throughout. Waterlovers is a boutique resort, with only 8 rooms in 4 cottages plus a villa. The feeling is therefore very intimate but there is plenty of space and one never feels crowded neither is there any pressure to socialise with other guests, though it is easily possible if one would like to. There is an excellent turtle shaped pool, a great bar area and an excellent restaurant serving excellent food. Every night your table is laid in a different area of the property which is very nice if you are staying for a few nights as we did. There is everything you need for wind and kite surfing, canoeing and snorkelling and a lovely and easily accessible home reef and sandbank, though we also took a great excursion to Wasini island with some of the clearest water we had ever snorkelled in. There is a great attention to detail, beautifully chosen furniture and crockery with local motifs plus strategically placed sofas and hammocks to relax everywhere.
It is a place suited to couples, families or friends groups though the atmosphere is definitely on the calm and relaxing side. There was a broad age range whilst we stayed and all guests seemed happy with their choice. I would definitely strongly recommend this as a great destination.

Room Tip: The lower rooms are excellent if you don't like climbing stairs or too much proximity to the two...

It is without a doubt, the best place the stay in Diani. It has probably been the best beach hotel/cottage I've ever stayed in.

Firstly the website gives you all the info you need, along with any extra advice or guidance from a personal email to the managers, (information on water sports and yoga).

The pictures are true, and in person the place is even more magical.

My partner and I stayed here for 8 nights in mid Jan 2013. The whole experience was fantastic. We were met by one of the managers when we arrived and taken to our room. The rooms are just beautiful, cleverly designed and beautifully decorated.

Make sure to have a look at the selection of leaflets in the room as they have taken the time to create a photo book of the construction from August 2007-July 2008, very impressive, it does make you feel like you get to know the owners more personally before you have even met them.

The food here is just delicious, Valentina has created all the recipes herself from her 'passion for cooking' Riccardo told me, also very impressive. The portions sizes are great, so you never go hungry. Breakfast is a treat as well, mini croissants and quiches, with all the usual cooked breaky and fresh fruit.

Nothing is a problem when you stay there, any small question or query is assisted with a genuine smile and a helpful answer. The staff are just lovely too, really friendly people who all seem very happy but at the same time are very chilled out which is nice when you're relaxing for the week! There's also a 'groundsman' Richard, who will help with anything while you're relaxing in the sun, moving your sunbed, helping with the free kayaks etc. All these little things may seem pedantic to some, but when you only have 2 weeks to unwind before getting back to a busy london life, it makes all the difference, you're made to feel special.

The owners also come around and introduce themselves, have a chat, get to know you, and everyday will pass by and say hello.

The place is exciting too, with Colobus monkey's running and jumping around the palm trees which are all located on the man made beach which is what the cottages are built on. And as day turns to night the bats come out to play in the trees while the monkeys sleep.

The rooms are always cleaned and have brilliant mosquito nets, which you probably won't need as it's always a bit windy, which is a relief when you're enjoying your dinner outside.

What else can I say? Well my partner and I have mentioned a few times since being back home that we miss it. It's a very warm environment and a joy to spend a week in for couples and families.

I wish them all the best as they really have put in the effort, and I hope I have the opportunity to visit Waterlovers again.

Emily and Rob

Each review we've read is true. The nicely decorated ecolodge is more than a hotel, it feels like home, with the hotel service on top. We spent a marvelous relaxing week there with our three young daughters. It was nice to have one cottage for the family the children upstairs and the parents have their privacy downstairs. each room has is own terrace with beautiful sea view.
We liked a lot dinner time every evening on a different spot especially the dinner on the beach with the moon rising.
We did some sight seeing on Diani beach and came to the conclusion that no other hotel can be compared to Waterlovers who is unique because it is small and nicely decorated. No plastic, no kitsch, a lot of wooden furniture and white sand.
We had planned to do a lot of sports but it was exceptionally hot during our stay so it became more of a relaxing holiday. We attend some very good yoga classes next to the resort; unfortunately the kite school nearby was not that well organized but we have to say there was not much of wind. But then these lounge chairs on the beach were so comfortable that we enjoyed to stay at the hotel.
The staff was most friendly especially Riccardo and Valentina who personally do every effort to make you happy and get the best out of your stay. They are warm, enthusiast people with a very good taste who have put their heart in this place.

I think I never before was so sure to say about a hotel that, if I will ever come to this area again I will for sure again stay in this paradise hotel again! The owner and all the staff are so lovely and attentive, the food and the arrangements for breakfast and dinner are amazing, the decorations and settings are sooo lovely, the size is just about right to meet people if you are of the communicative type or to enjoy your privacy, if you prefer. Some details I adored the most: the freshly made eggs of your choice, fresh fruits and the cake of the day for breakfast, the swing bed with ocean view for relaxing, reading or sleeping, the possibility to enjoy your dinner at a different spot each day (the displace the tables all over the place for the evening), the smiles of the staff, the infinity pool, the possibility to rent snorkelling accessories and even a canoe for free, the good advices of the owners and the stuff... well, let's make is easier: everything!

To respond to some of the previous reviews:

It is true that once you leave the place you are surrounded by Kenyans who want to sell their little somethings. But we took this also as a chance to get in touch with the locals: We once walked the beach with two of them and they told us a lot about the beach, the animals, plants, the people... At the end we bought some little wooden things that they made on their own at the beach (you can go and watch them crafting it) - especially if you count the one hour private guide on top it was really inexpensive! The next time we told them that we would like to have a walk alone and they respected that - after having greeted us by hand shake and by our names! Another day we went snorkelling and without the help of three others we would have never made our way to the spot - or at least with a lot of see-animal stitches. So of course we paid for that as well (do not forget to bargain - prices are as usual ridiculous to start with)! At the end of our stay I still had not bought the little black wooden hippo that I had seen at some tourist shops before – so they went and got it for me at some nearby souvenir shop.
If you really do not want to be bothered, be strict with them or just stay on the ground of the hotel where Ricardo and the rest of the staff has an eye on them, so you are never bothered.

It is also true that when you are sitting at the other end of the hotel ground at a perfect spot under the open air or on top of a little "view-tower", the freshly made food that comes to you might be not so warm any more or get cold relatively fast. So if you prefer, take your food closer to the kitchen and everything should be just fine. But first, most of the time the food was rightly tempered, and second, in my opinion, the setting largely makes up for the case the food might have cooled down a bit on the way to our table (despite the dinner bell).

What I found a bit disturbing was the slightly musty smell of the room (and the towels and sheets) - which is why I only give 4 stars for rooms and sleeping quality. I acknowledge that the Indian Ocean is a very humid area - especially if you go there during the rainy season (we've been there at the beginning of July 2012). So I know it is hard to avoid this, especially if the rooms are not hermetically closed to the outside, which on the other hand is really nice as well. But if there is any possibility to do something against this, you should try it to make this heaven even more heavenly! Also I think that the walls of our bathroom could get a new paint by time, but this is really a minor complaint.

As remarked by other guests, I also advise to fly in and out of Diani beach. The road to the airport of Mombasa and to most of the National parks and reserves goes right through Mombasa and you generally waste a lot of time and mood in travic jams or waiting for the ferry (we only got our plane thanks to our our driver who bribed the officer so he could get in front of the lane for the ferry).

Room Tip: We prefered the upper room for the privacy and the ocean-view (although the lower rooms have a beaut...

I was very impressed with Waterlovers, everything was first rate, down to the last detail, just beautiful, so artistic, the decor, the layout of the rooms and the buildings, etc. I would highly recommend this place and definitely would go back, The food was incredible, so much better than the average resort food. The only critique or more by way of suggestion I would have is that it would have been nice to have a bit of music, live or otherwise, around the pool, if not for the whole day, then maybe at sundown or when tea was served; this also because apparently Riccardo and Valentino love salsa music and are very good dancers, so I am sure whatever they would do in this regard would be with the excellent taste that is evident in everything done at this hotel.

Room Tip: I would say the lower floors would be the best because the monkeys can make alot of noise on the roo...
