Forest Dream Resort

This is a fabulous place set in the forest. Syke and colobus monkeys are everywhere and the grounds are landscaped with all types of trees and vegetation.

The villas are set apart from each other so you feel you have a place of your own. Each villa is different in style and two have their own pools.

Food at the restaurant was very good and fresh and new everyday. This is a great place for privacy, relaxation and quiet. The beach is a ten minute walk or there is a shuttle taxi to take you there. I would stay here again and avoid the other tourist traps on the beach.

We were a family of 6, staying in three huts set together, with an additional AC room, and a large outside sitting area. The decor of the whole place is really nicely put together, with lots of tasteful local crafts, makuti roofs, nice quality bamboo and so on. The forest they are growing on the site is also really nice, and full of monkeys and frogs, in a good way. The communal pool is also very nice, and the staff generally very friendly and responsive to most of our needs. The restaurant is OK, although not super special - we were happy with the breakfasts and the few meals we had there - you need to order a little in advance for dinner. A couple of things would have made it an excellent stay - we were puzzled by a cleaner who seemed to spend the whole day at our bandas, cleaning every spot, both inside and out, which was a little too intrusive. We would have also have liked them to be a little more flexible on using the parking bay by the bandas - they have a nice space for cars and a covered walkway to get to them, but for what they termed 'security' reasons we were not allowed to use them, other than for arrival and departure. But overall I would recommend this place for a Diani stay - especially for families with kids. It's not too far from the beach, and it is centrally placed in Diani, at the beginning of Galu, near lots of other restaurants.

Room Tip: If you want quiet then get a room away from the pool.

Dear Bradshaws,

Thank you very much for your kind words about your stay at Forest Dream with New Years. We are glad that you enjoyed it and would like to thank you for your feedback. We are proud of our forest filled with wildlife and the décor of our cottages so we are very happy you have also enjoyed this. Our apologies that our housekeeper might have come across as a little intrusive. During the high-season we make sure every cottage and villa has their own housekeeper to ensure there is enough time for the complete house and that they are always at your disposal. His intention was to make sure the villa was done from top to bottom and to be around in case you needed him.
Regarding the fact that we do not allow parking anymore at the houses, we have made this decision indeed because of security reasons. We want our guests to feel secure and safe which is done by a number of measures, including avoiding cars on the premises as much as possible. Besides security reasons this is also done to make sure our guests, especially children, can run around without having to watch out for cars and to ensure the peace and quiet. In front of our reception we have a large parking area with 24/7 security.
We would like to thank you again for taking the time to write this review and we hope to see you again this year December.

Kind regards,
Nicoline

The Forest Dream Resort is a large forest with some cottages and rooms which makes it quite personal. We've been only a few people around so it felt even larger than it actually was, but even with more guests it is a good choice. It is a good place to spot monkeys, squirrels and other animals with all the trees around. Especially the pool is a nice place to spend the whole day.

We enjoyed the friendly and polite staff and waiters very much, it was always nice to talk to them and they were always very helpful. Especially our 'pool-bar-and-dinner-waiter' was amazing.

The standard room was very big and very clean and the lounge with TV and everything was even more spacious. We would not book a luxury room since you don't spend a lot of time in your room in this unique resort.

We were looking forward to every morning because of the great breakfast: Fresh juice, fresh fruits, eggs, pancakes, toast, coffee and tea, cornflakes - we got whatever we wanted. The food in general was very good. Just dinner is quite expensive especialle the soup and the dessert (a soup was around 5 euro and one little crepe was 4,5 euro which is really expensive). The good thing about the dinner is the cute bush baby which is fed during dinner time.

The beach is around 15 minutes away, but it's possible to walk and the guards always offered to come with us. Furthermore, there was a beach shuttle without charge 4 times a day to and from the beach which is a really good offer.

We were just surprised about the free bicycles. We asked for one to go the ATM, but the young owner answered that the bicycle won't make it to the ATM. This was surprising because the free bicycles even appear at the homepage of the resort.

We have just returned to Nairobi after a blissful 5 day honeymoon break at Forest Dream. We found every aspect of the Resort absolutely spot-on. Our initial booking enquiries were responded to swiftly and efficiently, and the whole process made very easy. We were extremely excited on arrival after a long, dusty journey on the overnight train from Nairobi to learn that we had been upgraded to one of the amazing suites with a private pool, which had been decorated absolutely beautifully with fresh flowers. Very touching. The staff were all absolutely brilliant and the whole atmosphere is so tranquil and serene with just the sounds of birds and monkeys to wake up to and when we relaxed by the pool. It is clear from the outset that every aspect of the place has had a lot of thought and care put into it, from the environmental features such as solar panels and raised hot water tanks to the beautiful wooden Swahili buildings. We also enjoyed some long walks along Diani beach which really is not far away AT ALL despite what some reviewers seem to say. We were escorted by a guard along the track to the beach whenever we wanted to go which made us feel very secure, and they even waited for us for the return leg when we were just having an evening stroll. In fact, we found the fact that Forest Dream is not right on the beach a real plus point as it gave us a proper, relaxing and secluded escape, and returning there was always a pleasure. The food was lovely (as was the bush baby who comes to eat banana near the restaurant in the evenings!) and we really enjoyed playing tennis in the evenings before dinner. All in all I think it is one of the best value for money places we have ever stayed at. We will certainly be back as soon as we can!

My girlfriend and I went to Forest Dream for my birthday in January 2013. The staff welcomed us with a huge birthday cake and even sung for us in our room! That set the tone.
Although the resort was almost empty because of the off-season, the staff was very attentive and treated us wonderfully.
The resort is located a bit more in-land than other beach hotels, which makes it much quieter and gives you the impression to be in the middle of the forest rather than surrounded by other touristy constructions.
We got the Leopard suite for a real bargain; the room was vast, clean and comfortable. There was even a bubble bath that we didn't even have time to use... Overall the resort is very well maintained, quiet and safe. Food is great too, tastefully made to order. You can go to the beach by foot or bike (bikes definitely would need refurbishing or rather changed for newer ones), and there's always a guard who comes with you to keep your things.
The swimming pool's great too, and the bartender at the pool bar makes great fruit juices.
The owners, a young couple, are also very friendly.
In conclusion, a delightful experience, highly recommended.

We have been living in Kenya for many years and our last visit to Forest Dream goes back to 2006. Recently we wanted to have a break at the coast, and decided to go back to Diani-beach, in particular to Forest Dream. The place has become a small paradise on the South Coast. Some 20 years ago many trees were planted and nurtured together with the existing trees. By now the place has become a tropical forest, consisting a perfect blend of indigenous trees and tropical palms from many parts of the world. This is the perfect hide-out for a relaxed holiday for nature lovers and eco tourists. You don’t imagine yourself in a tourist hotel, where u are merely a number.
The accommodation is absolute TOP. A unique experience of African design with a professional finishing touch (everything works!). After two days you actually feel at home.
Kitchen: Besides an a la carte menu, the restaurant serves a daily menu. We opted most of the time for the daily menu which was every day surprising and a very tasty. And if you feel like eating something which is off-menu, all you have to do is ask...
Because of its small scale you will get familiar with the staff within days. They are very friendly and talkative while maintaining appropriate distance.
Even for kids the place is superb. Our children (12 and 16 yrs) were the whole day occupied. Whether in or around the swimming pool (with a Jet-slide), tennis, volleyball, (free) bicycles, or playing on the pool table. Options enough. We met a Dutch couple with three small kids and they told me they never had such a relaxed holiday themselves without having to pay attention their kids every minute of the day.
When you want to spend some time on the white sandy beach it’s a 15 minute walk.
The resort has attracted all kinds of wildlife, such as the endangered Colobus Monkey. In the evening, as the Galagos (Bush-babies) wake up from their day-sleep they will come down from the trees waiting to be fed at their special “reserved” table just outside the restaurant.
All in all a place where u can really relax your mind and charge your batteries.
We will be back for the summer Holidays.
