“Fabulous.... some minor annoyances!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2013

A beautiful cottage.... absolutely no doubts about it, lovely position, fantastic design, delightful decor, comfortable, lush and fabulous. Edith was very helpful, she was a good cook and the evenings she cooked she did an excellent job, she was less keen i feel to clean, and i don't blame her!! However, she kept it neat and tidy but i feel the whole cottage, especially the kitchen and bathroom could do with a deep clean. The bathroom on some days really had a very bad smell which i think came from the drains. Having the window open helped but not only did we get mosquitos coming in, but also a few monkeys!! (now i know where the expression monkeying around came from!).... Edith was a lovely person and very helpful at all times.

Other minor annoyances were few, but one of them was the fact there were no sun beds/loungers, it would of been lovely to lie in the sun sometimes, i appreciate the outdoor area was amazing, but in the shade. Us tourists love to sunbathe, for short periods and to have access to these would of been good. We also had to supply our own toilet rolls, washing up licquid etc.... things that are normally supplied in villas in my experience, and it wouldn't be at great cost to the owners. A pool would of been amazing and made the whole experience just that extra special, though i appreciate this would be a huge expense, i believe it is on the cards at some point. The other annoyance was there was nothing to play music on, or watch dvd's.... i did ask the owner if they would consider supplying this but they said most people didn't want it, but would of been nice to have the choice.

The walk to the 40 thieves was about 5 mins.... a little difficult at night as there were no lights. The 40 thieves was just incredible, though after 2 weeks the menu became a little dull. The position of it and the decor was so inviting. We had a meal at Ali Baba.... all i can say is WOW and WOW again.... what an experience! sitting in a cave so many thousands of years old and the food was sublime..... not expensive compared to some UK restaurants either. A real must.

The beach and the sea .......... couldn't ask for more. Amazing walks, turn right and keep walking to get to the African bar.... where the Kenyans go and can swim.... its quite run down sadly but there is something about it..... the waiter there was so friendly, i wish i could remember his name. We met him in March too and he remembered us.... could sit there for hours.....

All in all i would recommend the Kitu Kidogo cottage.... felt very safe, with the masai night watchman.... patrolling.... (did catch him asleep after 4am.... but don't blame him for getting a bit of shut eye!).... He always seemed to know if you were coming back at night and would open the front gate for you just as you got there.... friendly little chap though didn't speak alot of english.... (and why should he!!)... wish i could speak Swahili!! but i'm trying!!

I am sure i will return one day.... even just to visit to remember our fabulous time there.

Room Tip: The bedroom on the right is a bigger room.... but smaller room very comfortable too. The lighting i...

Thank you for your review.

I am glad that you enjoyed your stay at Kitu Kidogo. I am pleased to hear that you loved the design and decor of the cottages including the outside area and the serenity of the property. The bathroom drain vent has been fixed so we can assure future guests that there will be no smell in the bathroom. We have got our housekeeping staff in gear to give the cottages a through clean and to ensure that extremely high standards are constantly maintained. We provide guests with a constant supply of toilet paper and have spoken to our housekeeper Edith about it and ensure this never happens again. The bedrooms have ambient lighting but we have put side lamps also in case guests need brighter light. I must point out that our guests enjoy the suttle lighting in the bedrooms.

Kitu Kidogo Cottages prides itself on providing guests a more than value for money experience. We are priced low for our product compared to other self catering cottages in the area. We aim towards the budget to mid range customers. What we provide guests is privacy and exclusivity in beautiful and lush surroundings and cottages that are cozy, comfortable and beautifully furnished. We are located only a few minutes walk to the beach in central Diani which is a prime location. There are luxury cottages that can provide all the amenities including satellite TV and butler service, swimming pools and sun loungers however they are in the USD 300 - 500 per night range. We do not mislead guests about what we offer.

We stayed for 4 nights and it was really relaxing. The other villa on the plot was vacant so we had the whole grounds to ourselves. The outdoor dining and lounge area were great.

While the villa's aren't on the beach - they are easy walking distance. They are also very close to Ali Baba restaurant (a must visit) and Forty Thieves bar.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Sahani cottage. We found it warm and cozy. The 'hidden' and serene environment is relaxing, a big plus and well worth the holiday. Edith was very kind and warm. We found her meals delicious and surely enjoyed everyone of them. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Kitu Kidogo is very private and uncrowded with two cottages and 5 minutes walk to the beach its irre...

We stayed for 5 nights in the larger cottage with friends and we loved it. We especially loved the outdoor dining Area and spent a lot of time relaxing out there. The location is good everything within walking distance. Little bushbabies visited at night and there was a tiny buck in the garden and the usual Sykes monkeys. Edith was great, friendly and helpful with a sense of humor. We hired a cook called Bruno and he was great, really spoilt us ladies so we did not need to cook when not eating out. A small pool would be nice, but I believe there are plans for one in the future which would make it perfect.

I stayed in the one bedroom cottage in late May. I was so happy to get to this cottage after my safaris up north. What a great end to a great vacation. My cottage was clean, absolutely adorable, and was above and beyond what I expected. I loved laying on my porch, relaxing, and the beach is a very short walk away, as is a grocery store and small shopping area. 40 thieves and the Cave are also en route to the beach. Edit was the BEST and I had such a lovely time talking with her and getting to know her. So kind and gracious! I got a rash from some medications/sun exposure and she showed me the aloe plants to rub on my rash. I absolutely loved this place. The Maasai watchman helped me feel safe at night as well.

Fantastic little place. I love the outdoor seating area. Good, comfortable mattresses, great double shower - I will put that idea into a house that I build!
Close to beach, shops, beach bar, restaurant. Best value for money!

Room Tip: Both rooms great!
