A beautiful cottage.... absolutely no doubts about it, lovely position, fantastic design, delightful decor, comfortable, lush and fabulous. Edith was very helpful, she was a good cook and the evenings she cooked she did an excellent job, she was less keen i feel to clean, and i don't blame her!! However, she kept it neat and tidy but i feel the whole cottage, especially the kitchen and bathroom could do with a deep clean. The bathroom on some days really had a very bad smell which i think came from the drains. Having the window open helped but not only did we get mosquitos coming in, but also a few monkeys!! (now i know where the expression monkeying around came from!).... Edith was a lovely person and very helpful at all times.
Other minor annoyances were few, but one of them was the fact there were no sun beds/loungers, it would of been lovely to lie in the sun sometimes, i appreciate the outdoor area was amazing, but in the shade. Us tourists love to sunbathe, for short periods and to have access to these would of been good. We also had to supply our own toilet rolls, washing up licquid etc.... things that are normally supplied in villas in my experience, and it wouldn't be at great cost to the owners. A pool would of been amazing and made the whole experience just that extra special, though i appreciate this would be a huge expense, i believe it is on the cards at some point. The other annoyance was there was nothing to play music on, or watch dvd's.... i did ask the owner if they would consider supplying this but they said most people didn't want it, but would of been nice to have the choice.
The walk to the 40 thieves was about 5 mins.... a little difficult at night as there were no lights. The 40 thieves was just incredible, though after 2 weeks the menu became a little dull. The position of it and the decor was so inviting. We had a meal at Ali Baba.... all i can say is WOW and WOW again.... what an experience! sitting in a cave so many thousands of years old and the food was sublime..... not expensive compared to some UK restaurants either. A real must.
The beach and the sea .......... couldn't ask for more. Amazing walks, turn right and keep walking to get to the African bar.... where the Kenyans go and can swim.... its quite run down sadly but there is something about it..... the waiter there was so friendly, i wish i could remember his name. We met him in March too and he remembered us.... could sit there for hours.....
All in all i would recommend the Kitu Kidogo cottage.... felt very safe, with the masai night watchman.... patrolling.... (did catch him asleep after 4am.... but don't blame him for getting a bit of shut eye!).... He always seemed to know if you were coming back at night and would open the front gate for you just as you got there.... friendly little chap though didn't speak alot of english.... (and why should he!!)... wish i could speak Swahili!! but i'm trying!!
I am sure i will return one day.... even just to visit to remember our fabulous time there.
