Leopard Beach Resort & Spa
Ranked #15 of 29 Hotels in Diani Beach
Reviewed 19 June 2012

Apparently September is the low season, so the hotel was not overly booked with lots of tourists and the rooms we got were so beautiful considering the price.

The rooms were lovely, well kept and maintained, comfortable, A/C, clean, hot water, towels ..everything. We were on the ground floor and so had a lovely patio with chairs and table. The greenery around us was amazing. We love having monkeys walk passed up and swinging from trees above us. One of them even came into our room and stole our sugar!! (the staff did warn us to keep our windows closed)

The food was decent. Each night was a different theme. The breakfast was also good. The best was when they set up a buffet dinner right on the beach one night with a live band. Very entertaining.

The staff were very friendly. The guy at the reception even greeted us with a joke/prank a friend of ours had asked him to pull off.

The pool was quite big, clean, cold water. And since there weren't too many guests we were able to enjoy it calmly.

The spa was something else! We opted for the melting butter massage (one and a half hour full body massage!)

All in all it was an amazing experience!

I recommend you go diving there! and if you can't dive, try snorkeling! Best experience ever!

Closing every year for May and June to completely overhaul, spring clean and upgrade year after year shows ... the 'Chui' is sparkling fresh and looks new all the time, whereas the nearest competitors struggle to keep the shine on.
The rooms are good but the Chui Cottages are even better and the ocean front villas clearly the best there is, making everyone's holiday, according to one's pockets, a memorable occasion.
I stayed in a Chui class cottage and the space, in the room and more so in the bathroom with its own jacuzzi bath tube, was just astonishing.
Food and service too are on tope of their game and the addition of 28 villas in the huge sprawling property will be an added bonus. There will be two and three bedroom 'garden' and 'forest' villas with their own pools for families or a group of friends wishing a little more privacy and a new fusion restaurant will complement the range of other eating options which exist across the resort.
Considering that the Leopard Beach say 10 years ago rated as a run down mediocre place, this is a remarkable turnaround and the gallery of awards and prizes, the Leopard Beach was repeatedly voted as the best resort on the South Coast both locally and internationally, shows that good management and a great vision for state of the art hospitality are winners. Kenya still has it, you just got to find it ...

Room Tip: Take my advice, book a beach front villa or one of the Chui Cottages. The rooms are very good too bu...

Dear Safariafficionado,

Thank you for such a glowing review of our establishment. We are truly humbled by your review and are glad that you enjoyed our hospitality during your stay.

Our most popular Chui Class Cottages are nothing short of your description! This is attested by the high demand and occupancies experienced throughout the seasons. The addition of the 28 villas to the existing 158 rooms is to keep up with the existing demand as well as to provide our guests with varied accommodation options to suit their diverse needs.

Our annual renovations over the years have seen the upgrade of our facility, this year not being an exception; it is to our delight that this year will see the provision of WiFi internet in all the rooms and the installation of state-of-the-art flat screen televisions in all the standard rooms a feature that sets us apart in meeting the needs of our discerning clientele. All the above will be running concurrently with the new villa developments.

It is quite unfortunate that that during our annual renovations and maintenance this year (2012) we experienced a fire accident at the resort. We are however grateful that there were no injuries or casualties. This incident may mean that we will have to extend our reopening date from what would have been the 29th June 2012 in order to facilitate repair works on the affected areas. We are all working hard to not only restore our beloved Leopard but also on exciting new designs and improvements to make her even more beautiful than before!

Our local and international recognitions are a testament of the value of service that we give to our guests and the satisfaction expressed by our guests through such forums.

We cannot thank you enough for your wonderful sentiments on our facility and service and we hope that you will be visiting us again soon.

Wishing you the very best

i took my family there on holiday in april for 5 nights, generally the hotel is up to stardard, the rooms r clean an spacious, the staff is friendly and the meals are just great, esp the dinner buffet, the beach dinner was fantastic and exceptional, how ever the beach dinner was resheduled to thursday instead of the normal friday because of a visting prince who requsted for the change and the hotel never bothered to inform the normal guests.
the swimming pool is great and my kids just loved it and stayed in the water most of the times, the beach is clean and white and has a few beach boys unlike other beaches in the northcoast.
we were promised sea view rooms bt when we got there we discovered that they actually have few or no sea view rooms, and we were put in a room with a flower garden instead. the flora and fauna is just wonderful with different plants and flowers all over, and monkeys.
the animation team should try and create different activities esp for kids apart from swimming games.
all in all its a great hotel and we really enjoyed our stay and we would not mind to go back there in future.

Dear smunga,

Thank you for taking time to post your review and for choosing to stay with us at Leopard Beach Resort and Spa.

We are glad to note your wonderful comments particularly on our beach barbeque dinner. It is true that our normal beach barbeque is held on Fridays’ weather permitting, in the event of alternative arrangements we take it upon ourselves to inform our guests 48 hours in advance through notices placed strategically around the hotel in addition to briefing our staff accordingly. It is unfortunate to learn that this information did not get to you on time; we regret any inconvenience caused but trust you still enjoyed the Beach Barbeque either way.

We have different categories of rooms which, as you mentioned, include sea view rooms; this particular category is quite popular translating to very high demand and occupancies running throughout all our seasons. We note with pleasure your compliments with reference to our garden facing rooms.

Thank you for your suggestions on the animation activities, we have taken note and we shall look into them and see what options are available to us.

We take this opportunity to welcome you back to our resort for yet another enjoyable stay.

With Kind Regards,
Chui team.

I was visiting the Leopard Beach Resort just shortly before the Eastern holidays. My partner and I decided to stay there for a day after we already had spent a week in Diani in another hotel. We planned to participate in the BBQ on the beach and enjoy the swim in the sea.
When we checked in my partner and I did not have passports with us (since they were at the Kenya Immigration office for multiple visa processing), but we had copies of the passports and ID documents. There was no problem with the check in. Nevertheless, the receptionist took advantage of this and secretly called us police. The police came to the hotel in the afternoon and claimed to be anti terrorism police (i am a white North European and I work in Somalia as aid worker). They searched our room in detail while the hotel's security personnel was just standing by and watching. The police nor the security personnel provided any official documentation to allow the search or any clarification why we were searched. We ended up in the police station where we were treated as criminals. During this time the hotel staff did not show any concerns at all about how their guests are treated. As foreigners me and my partner had no idea about our rights and our phones and any other communication means were taken by the police as well. We were released between 9 and 10pm in the night. So no BBQ for us anymore. In the end of the investigation one of the police officers admitted that we were not suspected in terrorism but the hotel receptionist called them and asked them to treat us as potential terrorists. We were asked a significant amount of money for our release and the receptionist was hoping to benefit from this amount.

We sent an official complaint to the Leopard Beach Resort and Spa. At the very same day when the complaint was sent the Diani police officers who initially had investigated us called my partner in Nairobi asking why we submitted this complaint to the hotel. The hotel staff had asked the police to keep the fact secret that actually it was the hotel that called the police in the first place. The manager got back to me a week after the complaint was submitted and asked my contacts. As she had my e-mail address i didn't see it necessary to share my phone number with her. Since that they the hotel never got back to us with an official apology. We even dont know if there was any internal investigation conducted or if there was anything done by the management to assure that such incidents don't happen anymore.

This is how my partner and I experienced the Leopard Beach Resort and Spa - mistreated by hotel staff and by the police. We had nice holidays in the other hotel without any trouble and the only night we decided to spend in such an expensive hotel it was spoiled by the hotel staff. We still paid the full price for the room. In addition to the fact that the hotel got us into trouble with police the AC didn't work in the room and drunk guests were shouting under the window in the night.

Dear Tiina T,

We have read your feedback and appreciate your comments

We are grateful to note that you picked to stay in our resort and your likely preference to our weekly Beach Barbeque.

At Leopard Beach Resort and Spa, the Safety and Security of our guests is of our outmost importance and concern. It is with this that stringent security measures have been put in place to enforce this which might not always be the case in smaller hotels. Our staff has been trained to be most vigilant at all times. We take exception to the statement that our staff did their job so to benefit from any bribes paid.

We have noted with concern your displeasure in the manner at which the issue was treated by the local authority, something that is beyond our control, we however, sincerely regret the inconvenience caused.

As a hotel, we are subjected to abide by the stipulated regulations of safety and security as depicted by law for each individual, the emphasis on this cannot be subdued given the heightened security threats and alerts all over the world and Kenya is regrettably no exception. This we trust you fully understand and appreciate as it is in the interest of all of our valued guest.

We acknowledge that with the security procedures, your holiday fell short of your expectations, despite the unfortunate incident we hope you will allow us to share with you our true Chui experience.

Kind Regards,
Chui Team

We stayed at this Hotel over Easter this year and were very impressed with this Hotel. The staff were all very helpful and courteous and our special thanks go to Front Desk Manager, Sheena Patel and the Food and Beverage Manager, John. Both were excellent. The Chef, Boniface, is worthy of a special thank you as he looked after our particular dietary needs with ease and a smile. Such hospitality is difficult to find in many places around the world. Dinner on the beach was very good and the Swahili night brought back memories of old. The beach was great and the pool area was wonderful. Sea views from alomst anywhere on the hotel grounds is exceptional. We had a very enjoyable time at this Hotel and will definitely be going back again.

We've just been back from a memorable stay over Easter 2012 at Leopard Beach Hotel in Diani Mombasa. Right from the minute we landed at Ukunda airstrip, where we were picked up by Hotel courtesy till we were dropped back for our return, every day was enjoyable not only because of the weather, or surroundings, BUT MORE because of the the staff at the hotel. The warm greeting of Welcome..Karibuni by the front desk manageress Sheena to the Restaurant Hostess Ziporah & Janet we got nothing but smiles and making us feel like we were the only guests around. The Executive Chef Bonaface went the extra mile to ensure our special need meals were catered for. The restaurant Manager Mr Omolo with his excellent command of English was a gentleman and a pleasure to talk with. We returned here to Leopard after nearly twelve years and the positive change and the fabulous staff have definitely put this place onList of TOP Hotel in Diani. The Pizza & Pasta restaurant was great overlooking the beach front and the pizzas were divine with it's thin crust, I've yet to find one like this in UK. The Swahili evening was a hit and so was the food. We went to Wasini for a day & this was an experience we wont ever forget. Snorkelling to see the beautiful coral reef and the marine life and the icing was to see dolphins not just one but about 8-10 and be able to swim with them. Out of this world! Must try...excellent crew on the dhow all arranged via the Hotel. Service all round cannot be faulted and some of the Hotels (3* plus ) in the Uk need to go and learn about what hospitality is about at Leopard Beach! Definitely will return. Nothing is too much trouble and everything is NO problem....Hakuna Matata....

The staff in every part of the hotel are very warm and welcoming and cannot do enough for you. Wherever you maybe in the hotel, you are surrounded by either the gardens or the sea.The hotel is so close to the sea, the water is as warm as a jacuzzi.
The hotel seems to be improving every year.It is definitely worth paying a visit to this very sunny hotel, just to experience the Kenyan hospitality .
