“Love the village life”

The hotel is nice with good selection of food. I particularly enjoyed watching various birds nesting in the grass by the small pond next to the restaurant.
I met Peter and Thomas on my short walk outside the hotel, when these 2 young men were walking home after work. They told me they work on the Kongo River providing boat trips. Two days later I went over to do the boat trip with them and Captain Alex. (the hotel has a morning guided walk around the beach which ends in Kongo River)
It was an authentic, peaceful boat journey where I saw various birds on the mango marshland. A further highlight for me was the visit to their pretty village, where there are so many different kind of trees and plants, including cotton trees. Also, it was nice to see how people live in a very different way from Europe

What can i say? Fantastic place, amazing people, overall brilliant!
We felt safe with the amount of security guards around, especially Evan Amin he was brilliant - so funny.
The food was spectacular, different options every evening/day, good variety.. the snack bar was the favourite with the teens - which was right by the pool, Club Sandwich was the best!
The pools were beautiful with a swim up bar at each one, great for people who like a drink with their daily swim.
Only thing i can complain about is that the chlorine made some things green.
Beach Boys are great! have confidence in them, we actually booked our safari through them with Oliver tours which we could not fault and plus it was a lot cheaper then booking it from home!!! also did a boat trip through 'Captain Eric' on the beach.. amazing

Bar Staff and drinks were lovely.
Marpenzie Francis and Mechrondira Beja - wonderfull

Rooms were nice..
BEDS were surprisingly comfy, with mosquito nets surrounding it!
cleaned daily- no complaints

Monkeys are very cheeky and funny, they are a bit naughty.. bit one lady when she fed them, which is 'strictly forbidden' - she was a nort nort

We recently spent two wonderful weeks at the Southern Palms Beach Resort.
We arrived late in the evening and were provide with a moist towel, cool drinks and a special late dinner. Very nice!

The rooms are basic, but OK. Housekeeping stops by everyday for cleaning and changing towels.
We booked half board: breakfast and dinner included (except the seafood and Lebanese restaurant). Drinks had to be paid separately via a ticket system. You sign for everything you order that is not included in your (half) board, like drinks and lunch. Your bill has to be paid weekly.

There are different restaurants in the hotel, which all have life music in the evenings. The main restaurant has a buffet with a variety of different foods, depending on the theme of the day (like Mediterranean, German, “Southern Palms”, fish etc.). The food can be a bit spice sometimes, so if you don’t know for sure ask one of the very helpful staff members. The Italian restaurant is nice too, but if you are a big eater you might want to let them know. Some dishes, like the lasagna, are small.
The seafood was great, but the kitchen messed our orders up a couple of times so we had to wait quite a while for our food. Also our chairs kept “sinking” in the sand, which meant that the table was at chin height…
The grill is very nice too, but could use a little more variety. Especially in the meat department.

The pool is amazing! It looks even better than in the pictures. It’s very specious and kept clean during the day.

The staff is very, very nice and so helpful. They work very hard for little money. Special thanks to Jackson and Mercy, the floor manager and hostess of the main restaurants and waiters Luwge and Mawazo. Just spend some time talking to them and asking them about their work and life and you we’ll definitely have a few new Kenyan friends.

The evening entertainment is OK. There are different acts, like Masai dancers, snake show and acrobats, but nothing really spectacular. After the main act there is dancing till 11.00 PM.
The animation team is great. They really make an effort to do fun things, like volleyball, water aerobics, beach walks etc. The most fun (and the loudest) is Charles. He really wants everyone to have a good time. Also the cute, lean guy with the curly fro is very nice and helpful. (I forgot his name, does anybody know?).

The hotel is definitely four star considering the facilities, restaurants, etc. The rooms are more three star though.
Overall we had a very pleasant stay at the hotel and we’ll definitely come back one day.

My wife and I went to Southern Palms for our Honeymoon. The hotel is great for many reasons. The hotel itself is very attractive, with a great pool area. The bedrooms are a little basic, however this shouldn't be stop you going to the hotel as you spend very little time in the room because of the pool. The pool area is split into two sections, a salt water pool and fresh water pool both of which are spacious with lots of areas of shade and sun and plenty of sunbeds.
The food is reasonable, the breakfast is good with a great selection, the lunches are okay and the evening meals are alright but the deserts are not up the same standard as the rest of the foood.
The staff are amazing. They are all very friendly, willing to help with everything and they are always polite.
AVOID the beach (because the beach boys are a pain in the neck!!).... unless you go on the beachwalk with the hotel staff.
I would recommend going for a massage, the girls who do them are really friendly and very welcoming.
My wife and I wish we had stayed for longer and look forward to returning next year.

Very disappointed with the service at Southern Palms and the rooms are awful. Holes in mosquito nets, towels smelly and service from bell boys and some waiters appalling for Kenyan standards of a 4 star hotel. Have 3 young children. Snack bar took over an hour to deliver simple lunch bites!! Would rate this as 1-2 star. Made complaints to manager of the hotel but got no response. Was prepared to pay my travel agent to get my family out of there. Definitely not visiting again!!! Could rant on about loads of other stuff but honestly wouldn't recommend this hotel.

This was our fourth visit to Southern Palms, as usual had a fantastic time. All staff very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent.

Second week spent at Keekorok Lodge on the Maisai Maira, once again all staff very friendly, excellent food. We'll be back again....

Third week back at Southern Palms, as above. Can wait to be back in the near future.

Big thank you from both of us.

After reading some reviews we were a little concerned, but we need not have worried. The staff were amazing , the food was very good with a very large selection and NO Flies! The room was comfortable although the sheets were a bit smelly and so were the towels. Pool was clean and beds comfortable. Make sure you visit the 'Alibarbour Resturant' its fantastic and they put on a courtesy bus so you get there and back safely .
