As stated in the title my main review of this complex I have written in the Kole Kole section of trip advisor not realising it would be as two seperate sections, please feel free to read it, but in a nutshell, what would I say about our recent stay here, my husband, 12 year old son and I have had a fantastic time and are counting down the days to going back there, we can not wait

There is no doubting the aesthetic appeal of this hotel. The grounds are huge, stunning and exceptionally well maintained. The views out over the beach and the Indian ocean across all the resort are also amazing. We stayed in a superior sea view bungalow in the baobab section of the resort. The room, whilst not as plush as similar hotels i have stayed in, was immaculately clean and very comfortable.

The food, although not greatly varied, was very good and plenty of it. The main restaurant is however very busy and we avoided it as much we could. The restaurant in the maridadi wing is much better. It is very quiet, even for dinner, and suspended above the beach, with simply amazing views. I will miss eating my breakfast waffle there greatly. The staff there were particuarly friendly.

In fact, all the staff at the hotel were also so friendly and keen to help.

In my view, what let's the hotel down however is the 'package holiday' feel to the resort and it's relative isolation (although I appreciate that may be it's appeal to many).

Our visit here was part of our honeymoon; a one week break after safari. We were expecting something pretty quiet and the ability to take a few trips around the area. What we got was something quite different.

For example: The hotel has an infinity pool. It is absolutely stunning. But it is wrecked by the 'activities' that take place there everyday. Pool users have to fight for space with those taking part in the mornings water aerobics session or the water polo that follows. The pool is in the kole kole section of the hotel, which seems to be entirely booked over to an Italian travel agent. It seems the Italians like to listen to hardcore dance music over the hotels audio system all day long. And they like it loud. Very loud. The odd occasion when the music is curtailed is simply so the Italian rep can bark over the microphone, which she does quite a lot. This seemed to continue right through the day and even in to the evening. The pool in the marridadi section is a lot more peaceful and pretty impressive in it's own right (a three tier cascading affair), but does not have the wow factor that the infinity pool has. The pool in the baobab section suffers a similar routine to that in kole kole, although not to the same extent and without the Italian compare.

The hotel is pretty isolated. If you want visit the local area you need to take a taxi. There are plenty available but at hotel prices it can prove pretty expensive. We used the taxi to take us to Haller Park and to Kaya Kinondo. These were both excellent. The Kaya especially was such a wonderful break from the crassness of the hotel.

We also took the hotel's glass bottom boat trip out to the sand back. This is also highly recommended, and very reasonable at 10 Euro per person for 3hrs.

We opted for the beach BBQ on one evening - expensive but with all you can eat lobster it was amazing.

Reading my review it probably sounds quite negative. Whilst there were things that I didn't like, my wife and I did have a great time here; It just wasn't quite what we had anticipated for our honeymoon. Had we been travelling in a few years time with children in tow I'm sure we would appreciate the activities etc.

Watch out for the monkeys; they will take anything. Although it is hilarious to watch!

Stayed Oct 14th 2011 for 2 weeks, found hotel to be large but with little sunbed area around Maridadi and Baobab wings, this was not helped by an asian wedding which took over the Maridadi wing beach and restaurant were we had a room(2215 deluxe). Not worth the extra cost as with wedding and noise every night from next door hotel early nights were not an option. Food not hot and tasted the same after 2 weeks. Staff very good but behind the scenes the management seem a little low on customer skills. Entertainment team very good and hardworking (dont know how they keep it up all day). We went to Masai by air with Beach air safaris who looked after us and were totally trustworthy and very punctual, would recommend to anyone. Overall not a bad hotel but with the policy of not allowing non hotel based taxis and excursions to drop you of at reception felt a bit like big brother is trying to control what you do. Pollmans are the hotels partners and do not want anybody taking their customers, pitty there coaches are not as plush as their offices i bet the office air con works.
Overall not a bad hotel but a bit over rated by some, felt a bit like Butlins at times. Would not say i would stay again.

Room Tip: Look away from far end of Maridadi near perimeter due to noise

Our fifth trip to the Kenya coast and we feel we have found the place. Having previously stayed twice at Hemmingways amongst others we are happy to hang our hat on the Baobab. It was after reading some previous reviews on Trip Advisor that we decided to book. So what's it got ?
Firstly the food, apart from a one night break we stayed 13 nights and 13 glorious foody days. I guess you could say that perhaps we saw one or two similar menus but given that at dinner there would be up to perhaps 8 mains to opt for, we never came close to eating the same meal over the holiday. The puds. Well amongst the ones like Mum used to make there were exotic fruits, ice creams, hot sponges and B and B pud. Breakfast was pretty good too and of course singing egg chef would present you with your dream omelette. The rooms. We stayed in a standard garden view, hyper clean and fresh bed linen and towels every day, a hot shower and a telly with news and a couple of film channels for the odd early night. Showtime. The entertainments team was vast and I must say really hard working. they are currently running shows including amongst others, Mama Mia and the Lion King... Excellent. Alchofrolics. Well having done one two all inclusives previously the beer wine and spirits were fine and if not quite to your taste you could pay just a few shillings more for a premium tipple, mostly though, pretty good. General ambience. Well with 5 pool areas to go at it was very easy to pick the day you wanted from quite lively to serene and relaxed. The staff. All very well trained and polite, from the gardeners to the senior managers there was never a hint of poor attitude. Could I find something to criticise? If I tried I could find the odd thing to whine about, but i'm not going to.

We stayed here in september 2010 but returned again on 14th October 2011. This time we travelled with Katie who is nine. She treats us like grandparents and the feeling is mutual !
The hotel is just as good as our previous visit and the staff are absolutely amazing ! We stayed in room 2352 in the Maradadi Wing, which we requested upon booking having stayed in the same room last year. It is still a special room to us and Katie loved it too. The room cleaner "Wilfred" made a friend of Katie immediately and she was only too happy to write him messages such as "could she have an extra pillow" and thanking him for doing such a good job.
The Maradadi Restaurant staff were all excellent, the food was always of a good standard and provided alternatives for most peoples likes and dislikes. Mealtimes were always fun with the likes of SAMMY the pasta chef and his friendly banter both with ourselves and particularly with Katie, who she took quite a shine to.
Everyone at the resort makes you feel very welcome and they do appreciate a little swahili being learned to add to the atmosphere of where you are.
From the pool boys to the security guards to the management, it is without doubt one of the highest priorities that you are made happy and enjoying your holiday.
We may not be able to get back again next year but we will definitely be back maybe the year after. We travelled with Thomson Airways which I can only say was a convenient method of travelling due to the Mombasa Airport not being available from the UK other than on a package airline. We paid for Premium Upgrade for our flights only to be greeted with a sorry we are unable to provide an aircraft with premium seats on your outbound journey as we arrived at our departure airport on the day of travel due to a delay on the incomming flight !! This can only be described as disgusting considering our booking 12 months prior to travel.
However, this did not spoil our holiday at the Baobab Beach Resort.
We also did a safari to the "Masai Mara" which we booked separately through JT Safaris (Julius Nzumbi) We used him the year previously and found him again to be a very trustworthy and helpful man. I can understand people who have never travelled to Kenya before wishing to be safe and book through your tour operator, but take it from me he is as safe if not safer than any tour operators organised trip which will be more expensive and require you to vacate your room while you are away on safari, and may not get the same room on your return.
I will be putting a review of the safari on Tripadvisor separately as soon as I finish this review if anyone is interested.
Can't wait to go back, whenever that may be !!!
Take it from me, I do not think you will be disappointed.

Room Tip: Maradadi Rooms tend to be on the quieter side of the resort and a little more refined than the actua...

We stayed here in April for two weeks for honeymoon and can honestly say it was just perfect. We let the hotel know it was our honeymoon when we booked which meant we got a few special touches, like a welcome letter waiting for us in our room addressed to the new Mr and Mrs!!! It came with a bottle of wine and late in the holiday an invitation to a honeymooners private dinner, which we thought might be a bit cheesy but turned out to be just lovely.
We had a beautiful room in the Maridadi section with a bit of a view of the Indian Ocean. I think we were the most chilled out and switched off we have ever been on holiday, the grounds are so big you never feel like its really busy. The food was very very good for an all inclusive and the service was outstanding from the friendly, attentive staff.
Overall......WE LOVED IT!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the Maridadi section, top floor then you don't have any noise from guests abov...
