My wife and I spent 5 blissfully happy days at Asha cottages after a week of safari holiday. The time included our 25th wedding anniversary. That evening was made into a realy magical experience as they pulled out all the stops to create the most romantic atmosphere. Despite all the excitements during the safari, this was the high point of our holiday.
John, Dominique, Daniele and all the staff are all so friendly and welcoming. We were looked after very well at every stage. The gardens and the wildlife were fascinating; the sea and swimming pool were both warm. We don't usually do 'relaxing' holidays, but at Asha cottages that was what we did, although there was more on offer if we had wanted it.

Room Tip: I'm sure all the rooms would be good. We faced the Ocean and it was excellent.

My husband and I finished our honeymoon in Kenya with a 5 nights stay in Asha. It could not have been better. Our room was directly facing the ocean which was only a few meters away. We fell asleep and woke up to the sound of waves on the sand, beautiful. We had stayed in some nice lodges in Kenya prior to our stay in Asha and I have to say the food in Asha was by far the best we had. Everything was cooked fresh everyday, the menu was changed every day and quite diverse. The service is excellent, the people very friendly and they looked quite happy to work there too. John and Dominique were very friendly also and spent some time chatting with us. The area of Diani is of course beautiful, we went snorkeling on the reef in front of the hotel and it felt like we were snorkeling in an aquarium, so many fishes!!!
Asha cottage is the best place I ever stayed in to relax, wind down, live in a beautiful setting and enjoy life!

I and my boyfriend stayed at Asha for 8 nights in September after completing our Kilimanjaro trek and safari in Tanzania. Our stay was absolutely wonderful. We have travelled all over the world, and we will always remember Asha as being one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. Our room was the one closest to the sea, which literally means only a few meters from the waves. The room was large and delightfully decorated, so was the bathroom. The staff was excellent, polite and very professional. The property was very well run, everything is shining and clean, from the garden to the cutlery and the wine glasses. The food was delicious, and my boyfriend who always experiences stomach problems, ate everything included uncooked salads, and his stomach was even better than at home in Norway. Dominique and John are very welcoming and nice hosts.

Room Tip: Ask for the room closest to the sea!

Seems that most folks doing the game park circuit in southern Kenya prefer to start in the Masai Mara and end up somewhere along the coast. We decided to start with a few nights on the beach to level our heads before we set off for the parks, working from Tsavo East through to the Mara. Our agent originally steered us towards the larger resorts around Mombasa, but we stuck to our preference for more intimate, laid-back surroundings. We were thrilled to end up at Asha Cottages for two nights.
+ The property is compact and beautiful. It's basically U-shaped with the open end towards the beach. On the left are the five "cottages", actually just rooms in one central building. (Only the frontmost one has a direct water view, but we were in #4 and could hear the surf clearly.) On the right is the bar & snooker room and the back is the central pavillion, which is all open air. In the middle is a pool. Not huge but perfectly suitable for such a small property.
+ Good wifi should you need it
+ Meals were amazing. One night was an outdoor barbeque buffet and other night we ordered a la carte. Menu emphasizes seafood and we happily obliged for all meals. We decided to stay on a full-board basis because we had no interest in venturing into town or even out to the shops on the main beach road.
+ Snorkeling directly off the beach was nice, but not spectacular. The tidal swing here is huge and snorkeling at low tide can be dicey because of low clearance over urchins and other sharp stuff.
+ Amazing personal service from the proprietors, Dominque and John. They looked after us without being intrusive and were quick to answer any questions.

Only qualms are more with Diani than Asha in general:
- If you come from Mombasa airport, note that you have to use the Likoni ferry in order to move further down the coast to Diani. We arrived on a Saturday morning and proceeded to spend almost two hours at nearly a dead stop waiting in the car queue for the ferry -- not the best feeling after a very long journey to reach MBA. That the actual ride across the river takes less than five minutes only adds to the absurdity. Here's hoping they eventually clear the corruption that is preventing a bridge from being built.
- Beach boys are everpresent on Diani Beach. They're largely harmless, but still pretty annoying to be approached when you're trying to enjoy a pleasant stroll with your sweetheart. John does well to keep them away from directly in front of the property, but as soon as you walk up or down the beach, you will be approached. My advice is to firmly but nicely tell them right when they approach that you are not interested in buying anything and prefer to walk alone. (I heard that wearing headphones -- even if there's no actual music on -- can be a good trick to discourage them approaching.)

Even though it rained much of our short stay, we had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this property. Can genuinely say that this is one of the best beach stays I've ever had.

Asha Cottages is a beutiful place at the stunning southern coast of Kenya. With the beautiful view on the Indian Ocean the family-run boutique hotel is a perfect place to relax. Not influenced by 'mass tourismus' Asha Cottage spoils its guests with wonderful food and great service. The very sympathetic hosts, Dominique and John with their very friendly team understand to create a very comfortable atmosphere - not to forget their engagement fot those who are not priviledged in life.
