Had an absolutely fabulous week staying in Selene. Everything we could need was in the Villa and it was immaculately clean when we arrived.
The views into the Olive Grove were beautiful and it was so quiet and relaxing. The nearest village was only 5 minutes by car but it was a pleasant walk in the evenings after a meal (and wine) at Monika’s taverna - awesome food and nights out!
Would thoroughly recommend staying here and we will most certainly be back again!
A short drive out of Almiryda, the main coastal resort nearby. The village provides just about whatever you'd need in a Cretan holiday on the coast.
It's almost little England - and just a bit reminiscent of some of the small Cornish villages 30 or 40 years ago - but with the pleasure of almost no rain, lovely sunshine, warm seas, wonderful swimming, stunning 8000 foot mountain views, enticing tavernas, and very friendly people.
If you want all of this, plus the option of solitude and quietness when required, this is a great choice.
This was our 3rd visit to St Basil Olive Grove and our 2nd to Villa Selene. We were looking for a relaxing week, and we weren't disappointed. The villa is very spacious, especially as there were only 2 of us and clean, well-maintained and well appointed. We love having the pool just outside, and the sandy beach at Almyrida is just 2km away. If you don't fancy self-catering there are plenty of restaurants in Almyrida and a lovely cheap tavern in the even-closer Gavalchori. I'm sure we'll be back!
This was our second visit to Villa Selene and it was as lovely as we remembered it. The location, for us is perfect- far enough away to feel peaceful and relaxed yet near enough to enjoy the shops and restaurants. We walked down the hill almost every day and even enjoyed walking back up it- although not every day!
The villa is clean and bright and Mark was very discreet when he came to clean the pool and villa.
I would strongly recommend Villa Selene as the perfect holiday villa.
Lovely location with striking views of the White Mountains. Well equipped comfortable villa inside and out with excellent pool. Spoilt for choice where to eat . Nothing too much trouble for friendly, helpful local management. The setting takes some beating
We had a most excellent holiday at villa Selene, we stayed one week with my parents the villa was emaculatly clean, we had the beds changed and fresh towels half way through the week, and we took tea bags with us and they provided us with a teapot on the second day without being asked. The pool was cleaned during our stay as well, the only thing we did not have was a pair of oven gloves which would have been useful, and the lack of free wifi is a little bit of a pain as you have to find a shop that sells the vouchers we asked at three before we found one, and you do need it to check in for flights. But on the whole an excellent villa well worth another visit.
We (4 adults and 2 kids) had a lovely time at the villa and the kids loved the pool! The location was perfect and the villa beautiful and well presented with everything you need. The minute you arrive it all feels very relaxing and the views of the mountains are stunning. We were there early in the season (April) so it was lovely and quiet in most places and the weather not too hot. We explored the local area, which is lovely (particularly the nearest village gavalachori) and also did some hiking in the white mountains (mount gigilos and Imbros gorge), which were fabulous. Crete is a Beautiful island with lovely people and great food and this is a perfect base to explore from. I recommend a hire car to explore the mountains and gorges but if you enjoy walking then exploring the local area on foot is a also a great option (if not too hot!). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this villa or location and would love to return.
