great hotel, food was excellent, plenty of choice. bars were good, staff friendly. the entertainment was brilliant, zorro and team work very hard. good selection of snacks at the western saloon. we used the lagoon type pool, was cold when you first got in but was lovely when you got used to it. visited the chinese restaurant and it was fantastic. the whole holiday was great and very good value for money.air con rather noisy though.

Room Tip: we had a ground floor room and liked that it was close to everything.

Booked San Miguel for me and my partners first holiday abroad together, stayed October 12th-19th, left me with a sour taste in my mouth.

Booked the holiday with Thompson an flew from Birmingham Airport. From the moment we checked in it was a fantastic service, the flight was enjoyable and could not fault it.

When we arrived in Ibiza Airport we were greeted by a Thompson rep who directed us to our coach. The rep that informed us the order of drop offs at the the hotels and that our welcome meeting would be taking place on the following morning in the main bar of the hotel.

The main reception was small and dated but the staff were more than helpful. Once checked in we had to walk through the hotel, bar, terrace, poolside to reach a set of stairs and no lift. I would not recommend the hotel if you have any mobility difficulties.

Once we arrived at the room it was clean on first inspection, but my opinion soon changed on taking a closer look. Thick dust and cobwebs down the side of the wardrobe ( I know I may seem pedantic but honestly it was disgusting), i stored my shoes under the bed when i pulled them it it was covered in thick dust. Having no air con in the bathroom meant there was a build up of condensation and black mold grew on the ceiling. We only stayed one week in that room but we were both ill when we checked out. We did inform the hotel of our problems via a comments card but nothing was done. We complained to Thompson an still have not heard anything.

The food was average but repetitive.

The entertainment was smutty and i can honestly say we didn't watch one night of entertainment all the way through, we took to taking drinks back to the room and watching tv.

We missed the welcome meeting nothing down to our doing, we were waiting but no Thompson rep 2 days in a row. On the third day we needed to find a rep as we had a trip pre-booked for the following day an didn't know where we were going to be picked up or anything.

We spoke to the hotel staff who informed us that the Thompson rep was never located in our hotel but in the sister hotel and we would need to find them in the hotel next door....that never made any sense to us. After our magical mystery tour we found two reps in the other hotel, surely there should be one rep in each hotel.

The only thing i think the hotel had going for it was the location to the beach, it was a stones throw away. but apart from 4 shops all selling the same things there was nothing at all to do apart from drinking yourself into an oblivion.

If you wanted to go anywhere there was not a bus stop in sight, a taxi rank was located at the front of the hotel but a minimum charge of 30 euros.

a little train that picks you up from the beach front is a great way to spend an afternoon.

Sadly wont be returning or recommending.

Cherry on the cake booked a 3 star hotel but whilst we were there it was downgraded to a 2 star.

Room Tip: do not book a poolside room- entertainment very close and carried on after 1am

Reviewed 28 October 2013

Me and my boyfriend stayed here 5th-16th october 2013
I try to keep my reviews honest and highlight the good/bad points so here goes:

ROOMS

we were in room 12 as we requested a ground floor room as I have a wheelchair. the rooms are basic but are cleaned daily. on arrival our room had a weird smell but i think this was stale air as once we opened the doors, sprayed and put air con on it went away and we didnt notice it after this. room 12 was round the back of reception and I felt it to be quiet but my boyfriend was woken up most nights by noise from above. i think it was probably people coming home from Casey's Irish Bar which was open frm 9pm-3am. i didnt hear a thing!

the air con is good but quite noisy, but we didnt need it on as the nights were cool. it would be fab in summer and the noise you would get used to in my opinion.

we did have a problem with ants on one occasion (we came back from watching entertainment and there were loads!) but on telling reception they sent a cleaner immediately who dealt with them and left us a spray bottle incase any came back (which they didnt)

you do not get a kettle or anything in the room, and i'm not sure if you can request them. if you like a brew then i would as the tea/coffee in the bars/restaurants was not nice (i think it was the milk) but maybe thats just me.

POOL

the pool is freezing! it takes your breath away when you get in, it would be lovely in summer to cool down but i felt cold on getting out the pool and on overcast days ended up going inside until the sun came out to warm me up! its a lovely lagoon style and i did enjoy a swim, but the sea down the road is warmer. they have a pool attendant called Alberto who is friendly and keeps the area around pool and by loungers as clean as possible.

BAR

it is a pretty standard bar with cocktails and the usual beer, sangria, spirits etc. you can use the bar in the beach club or the western saloon, which is ideal for those on loungers near it or on the beach. the pina colada's were quite strong at the beach club bar but the barman weakened mine down for me :) the daiquiri and sangria were yummy. the barmen are very generous with the measures! ;-)

WESTERN SALOON

same drinks as beach club bar but they also serve icecream & popcorn (self serve) and have food. the food is limited in my opinion as they only have nuggets, burgers, hot dogs, chips and 1 type of sandwich (tuna) so we only ate here a few times.

BEACH CLUB RESTAURANT

I am by no means a fussy eater but i found the food quite limited. obviously there will always be some repetition on an AI holiday and thats fine but i only enjoyed about 2-3 meals out of the 11 night holiday (we ate elsewhere on other nights)

the food you can expect to see every day is :
tuna or another type of fish
pasta and tomato sauce (same every night from what I saw)
chips
something with cheese (lasagna/pizza etc)

they had a decent salad selection but not many things that would accompany it (ie. poor selection of meats) so it was very chips orientated.

the pudding selection was good and they had frozen yoghurt and fruit every night as well as the usual little puddings

however, the breakfast was lovely and we ate most mornings. there was a choice of croissants, toast, fruit, and traditional cooked breakfast :-)

you can book the hotel restaurant and the chinese restaurant with reception and these are much nicer so i recommend this. the tapa tapa bar is nice but wouldnt fill you up as the items tey have are little selections of bread with toppings on. ideal for a starter! :-) it is not like tapas we have here or in other parts of spain.

ENTERTAINMENT

we'd read alot about zorro and the team before going & they didnt disappoint. they work hard day & night. i found the best entertainment was when they were doing it (i.e game show and you-bet), as the entertainers they brought in on some nights were not as good. the kids entertainment can run quite late (9-9.30) but they seem to love it. they had a santa clause one night for the kids to have pictures with, while santa was 'on holiday' :-)

EXCURSIONS

there are a few excursions you can pay to do, such as hippy market, island cruise, shopping in portinatxl, sunset cruise etc etc. we were out of season so didnt bother with the san antonio sunset cruise as felt it would be quiet. you can visit benirras beach (down the road in a taxi) for a nice sunset if you wish.
we went to ibiza town by night and this was enjoyable but again out of season so the street theatre and performers, fireworks etc that i'd read about before coming were not there. the shops stay open quite late so we wandered around, went to Hard Rock Cafe for food and then walked along the marina looking at the yachts and boats. they had a nice little market too. you can get to biza town and other places by bus which is uch cheaper but we arent very good at getting around so chose to book the transfer with 'ibiza excursions' and went by coach. they are situated across the road from the beach club. you can also book some trips with the guy on the beach.

canoes on the beach are part of the AI so we went on these which was nice, you are allowed 30 mins at a time, but i'm sure if you asked for longer they'd say yes if it wasnt busy.

LOCATION

the beach club is set in a lovely little bay of port de san miguel but there is NOT much to do. if you are bothered by this you can get taxi's to other areas for a few euros, or the bus. but basically all that the bay has is 2 supermarkets, rent a car, excursion shop, and the beach. its lovely to walk around though and you do feel safe.

BEACH

the beach is nice but its not white sand, its more of a dirty sand. you have to pay for the loungers and umbrellas,so we bought inflatable lilo's from the supermarket. we really needed these as the loungers around pool are rock hard and very uncomfortable!

WEATHER

we went 5th-16th october and we had sun everyday. the first 2-3 days were overcast in the morning until about 11.30am but then the sun was in/out of the clouds. we had rain on a few days but it didnt last all day and the sun came out after this. if you like wall to wall sun then go earlier in the year or go elsewhere. i have read that ibiza weather can be unpredictable (it had been raining heavy in aug/sept i believe) so we were quite lucky.

evenings are cold and i needed my legs and arms covered. the entertainment is outside so i used a blanket round me and was fine with this. incidently the night time weather in ibiza town was quite warm when we went for the night. so parts of ibiza must vary!

AIRPORT ASSISTANCE FOR DISABLED

just a quick note on this, the airport assistance is very good they have lots of staff available that help you through check in and to/from aircraft. we needed a bus to take us to/from the aircraft as there were stairs to get on plane. on arrival to ibiza from manchester the transfer bus was very hot and none of the windows opened. combined with about 10 other people and wheelchairs it was very crowded and uncomfortable, but needs must :-(
on our return journey we went through check in very easily and were told the meeting point for the wheelchair passengers. we had about an hour until boarding so went to get food (it was about 9am and flight was 10.55) after we finished (20 or so mins later) we were walking back to get water for the flight and were about to enter a shop, and were told off by one of the staff for not being at the meeting point! she said that they were boarding us and were waiting for us, so we werent even allowed to get a drink! we arrived at the meeting point after being hustled there and were left sitting for 20 mins. we didnt see what the rush was as the flight was NOT boarding! so we didnt appreciate this. i think they expect the wheelchairs to sit at the meeting point for the whole time.....

I hope this has been useful, we'd go back if we wanted another cheap relaxing holiday with a short flight, but probably not eat in the restaurant. other parts of ibiza have more going on so we'd try somewhere different next time.

Room Tip: rooms around pool are noisy as right by speakers and entertainment there are no lifts so request gr...

Enjoyed our stay at San Miguel Beach Club
Accommodation
We booked the beach club instead of the San Miguel Hotel as I had heard that lifts were an issue at the hotel, as only 2 serving 8 floors.
Lifts were fine if going from ground floor to 8th floor, but I could see how it would be a problem if you were staying on the floors in between, as lifts would very often stop on these floors, and were too full for the people to get in.
Although, with the beach club, there are 3 floors and no lifts, but luckily, we requested ground floor and got it.
Doors are not that wide - our buggy wouldn't fit through the doors, which was a bit of a pain, but it is wider than average. Also, the cot wouldn't fit through the door, so they had to remove the patio doors to get it in.
Rooms have a double bed and 2 single beds, unless you need cot space.
Safes were pretty pricey - 2 euros 30 a day and 6 euro deposit.
TV in room, you could pay for extra channels, but we only watched it occasionally for ITV1.
Lots of wardrobe space, and about 20 hangers provided.
Bathrooms had full bath over the shower, but not sure if all of these had them, we requested full bath for the baby.
Restaurants
If staying at the beach club, all meals were to be taken in the beach club restaurant. Nice restaurant, only problem was steps going up to the restaurant, and was pretty small, so we couldn't take the buggy in, and as our baby eats at different times to us at lunch and dinner, this was a bit of a pain.
We would book the San Miguel hotel restaurant with reception the day before most lunches and dinners so that we could take the buggy in and the baby could sleep while we were eating.
Food described as a bit repetitive, but didn't find it too bad, there were some things that you would see most meals, but also some different things.
Cooking station in the San Miguel hotel which did fresh chicken and fish, pancakes, and pizzas.
Breakfast was quite varied - full English, cereals, muffins etc
You could get wine and beer from pumps in the restaurants for lunch along with soft drinks. In addition, San Miguel hotel had juice and coffees available at lunch and dinner, but beach club restaurant didn't.
You could also eat snacks at the Western Saloon - burgers, nuggets, chicken, fish fingers, salad, chips, sandwiches between 12 - 5 or 6.
The Chinese restaurant in the hotel had to be booked in advance, and this is worth visiting. 2 sittings - 6.45 and 8. We ate there 3 times. Food varied slightly.

stayed here in October for 1 week, we were in room 210 which overlooks tennis court at the front of the hotel which was fine until we realised we were above the bin storage area and the bins were emptied at 4.45am everyday............. Room was clean but basic and bathroom could do with some refurbishment, rated as 3 star same as the sister hotel but no comparison between the two, public areas much better in the hotel than beach club money has obviously been invested there.
Well thats enough of the negatives, positives are staff are brilliant in the restaurants and bars, and the animation team definately earn their money plenty of activities for all ages from 11am to 11pm. Food was ok managed to find something we liked everyday so no complaints always hot and fresh, choice of drinks were good as well. As I said in title you get what you pay for so go with an open mind, met loads of people that return year after year and have a great time, great cheap and cheerful all inclusive in a fab setting,
