“Zorro and team were amazing, brilliant entertainment.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2011

Just returned from a week holiday, it was fantastic. Hot sunny days everyday, the food was good, breakfast was my favorite. The entertainment team Zorro and the other guys were brilliant. I went with a friend no kids but from what i could see the kids were all kept entertained during the day and the 3 girls did the kids songs with them from 8pm till bout 9pm when Zorro comes on for the adult entertainment. So funny, best holiday entertainment I've ever seen, laughed every night. It was nice that he got involved with the crowd. I could go on all day about how good. Zorro and co were so ill stop now!! Book this holiday for next year, your love it. Sunbathe all day then laugh all night! Best holiday entertainment ever!

Stayed at the Hotel San Miguel (Hotel Cartago) for 11 nights in Sept/Oct 2011.
The hotel is in the north west of Ibiza about 30 mins from San Antonio and Ibiza Town. It is in a complex with Hotel Galeon and San Miguel Beach Club and guests can use the facilities of all 3 hotels.
Room:
Our room was on the 4th floor of the 8 floor hotel, the main restaurant was on floor 8 and the pool and main bar were on floor 0. We spent a lot of time walking up and down the stairs as the lifts were small and often full, but this wasn't a problem for us. Our room was quite small with 2 singles and 1 double bed but we had a large balcony and an amazing view over the bay. My bed was particularly uncomfortable! Could definitely do with a refurb! Both our room and the rest of the hotel were kept spotlessly clean. Air-con was not very good!
Food:
Food in main restaurant was very good. Always loads of choice. Breakfast was very good. Loads of choices for salad at lunch and dinner and hot food. Always chips (for the unadventurous) and things to make toasties. There was always some form of live ction cooking. Steaks, tuna and lamb were cooked to your liking, sometimes had carvery or crepes. Seafood night was a particular favourite as you got a glass of Cava! Chinese restaurant was good but got booked up very quickly. Just like a Chinese buffet at home with about 10 dishes to choose from. Mexican Corner was nice for a snack during the day with about 6-8 mexican dishes to choose from. We ate at the tapas bar, Tapa Tapa, a few times. There were about 10 different tapas to choose from which were all good, the bar itself could do with a refit though. Western Saloon was like junk food heaven! Chips, burgers, hot dogs, pop corn, ice cream. Didn't particularly like it, and it was always full of kids! It was aslo the only part of the complex that was every untidy.
Bars and Entertainment:
Huge choice of drinks on AI! Cava, beer, cocktails, wine, spirits. Cocktail bar from 9pm on level 8. Main bar on level 0 was OK during the day but turned into an old peoples home on an evening! No atmposphere at all. On an evening you had a choice of the entertainment downstairs (the kids entertainment went on until 9.30pm, totally un-necessary since it wasn't the school holidays, and most of the kids were running round rather than being entertained!) or the main bar. Needless to say we went out! The adults entertainment was good but to be honest we couldn't be bothered to sit through 'The Music Man' and 'Agadoo'.
Pool:
Again, you had the use of 3 pools. We used the Hotel Galeon pool on the first day but it got shaded by trees quite quickly. It was definitely quite up there though and quite a walk from our hotel. Beach Club pool was FULL of kids and lilos and to be honest looked like our worst nightmare!!!! San Miguel Hotel pool opened from 9am until 7pm but you would sometimes struggle to get a bed at 8.45 in the morning. People would reserve beds and not use them until lunch time if at all. There were probably only about 50 beds around the pool, nowhere near enough for the size of the hotel. The pool was freezing! The kids bit was often packed with kids (Thomson told us this hotel was particulaly good for adults!) shrieking and screaming and the main part of the pool was filled with kids on lilos and in inflatable rowing boats (even though there was a sign banning their use). We ened up using the beaches!
Hotel in general:
There are a few extras to pay for at the hotel. The safe is €2.50 per day + deposit, TV card was €7 + €5 deposit. Beach towels were charged at €10 deposit + €2 to hire and €2 each time you wanted to change them! Wifi and the internet were also both quite expensive.
There isn't really much going on in the resort itself. We hired a car for a week and went all over the island to find beaches. I think I would have gone crazy if I'd stayed in the resort for the whole 11 days!!!! We went to San Antonio a few times for the sunsets, Ibiza town to go to Pacha and go shopping and also to the Hippy Markets. We went to a beautiful beach about 2km away in Benirras which got very busy as the day went on.
There nearest cash point to the hotel is in San Miguel town, about 4km away. The bars in Puerto San Miguel seemed quite expensive compared to Es Cana which we visited a couple of times. There are about 5 restaurants and about 3 bars, there is also a beach bar about 200m walk from the beach in a beautiful cove.
The only thing that we didn't like about the holiday were the amount of loud, obnoxious children that were there. It wasn't the school holidays but there were still at least 40 kids of school age at the hotel! The kids parents didn't have a clue where there children were half of the time, they were just allowed to run riot. Most of them were staying in the Beach Club. I overheard quite a few people complaining about this. There were also a lot of under 5's, not really for couples wanting a quite holiday. There were also a lot of OAP's and older couples at the hotel. I'm in my 30's and was deifinitely in the minority! A few of the old people were quite rude too, pushing in at meal times and at the bar!
Would recommend this hotel for older couples but definitely not if you want to go to Ibiza to party. A taxi back from Ibiza Town was about €30 and from San Antonio was about €37.
The hotel was good value for money, I heard people complaining but what were they expecting for the price they paid? The Ritz?
We would stay again but would probably take ear pugs so we didn't have to hear the kids!

Room Tip: Ask for a seaview room, quieter and better view. Also floor 4 means you don't have to walk up so...

Visited this hotel with my husband ,daughter, son in law and 2 Grandchildren aged 3 & 6. The hotel was pleasant, rooms basic but clean, air conditioning not very effective in rooms and none existent in corridors. The dining room had lovely views across the bay and food was generally good, as was the chinese rest. which needed reservations via reception. Set on the hillside on 8 floors the lifts were tiny and not adequate for number of guests.
Main complaints would be the tiny pool area with hardly any sunbeds, pool did not open untill 9 am and closed at 7 pm with many disruptive teenagers around from the apartments downstairs. No outside toilets, showers or bar area at hotel pool. Usually no problems getting sunbeds on the beach but these had to be paid for locally. Beach and sea lovely very safe for the children with plenty of watersports. The area around the childrens pool was very cramped and again not large enough for the size of hotel. Entertainment was good for the children but no cleaning was done after evening shows so this area was always dirty in the mornings. We enjoyed the holiday and loved the pretty little resort but would not return as far too many noisy inconsiderate English guests !!

Room Tip: As lifts unreliable rooms on 4th floor would allow easier access to the pool areas on ground floor a...

Just got back from 2 weeks in San Miquel (Cartago ) hotel . Another great holiday , our 3rd visit. We are a couple with a 13 yr old . The ony moans are slight cut backs we noticed from last year ......no HASH BROWNS at breakfast and no CHEESE NIGHT. You now have to wait until 9am to put your towels on the sun beds at the top pool .....i actually agree with this as it makes it fair and found that we made friends queuing. ( hi to Bernard Anthony, Andrea, Kim, Sue to mention but a few!!!!). Everything else was fine . Hotel clean food good.....too good...... the beach....ZORRO and the gang was amazing as usual . Their tireless efforts to entertain us all is second to none. ...If you have a GSOH and are happy to listen to ZORRO'S humour .........then this is the holiday for you . don't worry there is no fowl lanquage and the odd inuendo go's over the kids head ( he talks about his dinosaur in his trousers ) .....BOOGIE NIGHTS is a must BRIGHTSIDE are a fantastic duo..If you are a family with children and you want a good value holiday then i would recomend this place. .......will i return again ????? yes, but probually not next year as i need to try other places. But, i don't feel this was the last time i will visit this place .

Room Tip: room 529 ....you over look the sea and nobody has to walk past your room as you are the last

we returned to san miguel and enjoyed it even more than last year.this was because we met a lot of people from last time.we love the safety, location and the entertainment.food was good with plenty of choice.plenty of drink,ice-cream and food all day.because it is a bit remote you don't get large groups with teenagers running riot.we took friends this year, they also loved it.looking to book for next year already

We have been here 4 times because of the superb animation team, led by the incredible Zorro!!! They work tirelssly to make sure everybody enjoys themselves!!! From my husband on the stage to my little one playing bowls on the beach, nothing is too much!!!! Alongside this the hotel is magnificent for a young family, set in an idyllic location offering beautiful sunsets, can you afford to miss out?? Although we have been to many other family resorts this stands out by a mile! We are so looking forward to meeting up with the team at Zorro's Roadshow in the UK, a little bit of San Miguel magic in the winter! Def worth spending those pennies to see the brill animation team in action! Look them up on facebook or visit the hotel site.

Room Tip: Try Zorro's poker nights or party on the beach with him!!!

Just arrived home, as with all destinations there were the good, the bad and the ugly.
The good was the weather, the staff, the food and availably of drinks and ice cream throughout the hot day.
The bad, the same as stated in previous reviews which, were basic rooms, noisy air conditions units, swimming pools are too small for the number of guests and un-reliable lifts.
The ugly, two areas here, firstly during our second week there were a number of teenagers boys (aged 13 – 17). They congregate around the pools and the swearing and behaviour at times, around very young children was repulsive. However, I did not see anything that this resort can offer for this age group.
The second was the in-house children’s entertainment. Overall, it lacked imagination, enthusiasm and very repetitive. My child is disabled and the children’s entertainment staff lacked understanding to a point where she was disadvantaged to such a point, where we kept her away so that she would not be disappointed (again).

Please note that the Thompson children activity staff were very good and not to be mixed up with the hotels in-house staff.
