We stayed for 4 nights and can relate to the mixed reviews of this hotel. Based on Lonely Planet recommendations, we expected more. Generally speaking, the hotel has a great starting point and potential. It is a pity that management does not act on it, because it could have been much better. The way Greece economy is, we are not in position to judge. Re-reading everything, I can reflect on other comments:
Pros:
1. Location is great just between best beach in town and the town center.
2. View from the balcony (Room 6) is amazing. Overlooking the beach and to the horizon, still some afternoon shade from the cypress tree.
3. When the air is moving, there is a gentle breeze from the sea and A/C is not required.
4. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the beach is great way to start the day.
5. Price is attractive. I think that we paid 35 euro for a room for two, breakfast included.
Cons:
1. You read it in other reviews: not too clean, rooms are not up to standard and small, management is nice (good English) but not up to the task/diligent.
2. Once the breeze died down for (2 days) the lack of A/C was a big issue.
3. Mosquito, not too many but one hungry mosquito can inflict a lot of damage. Probably due to the thick vegetation around the hotel.
Bottom line, you be the judge.
4. Rooms need an upgrade and better cleaned.

Room Tip: Get a room with balcony overlooking the sea, probably Rooms 2,4,6. I cannot imagine benefits of balc...

We got booked into this 'hotel' by a travel agent, and were quite disappointed on arrival.
I agree with the other comments, this is a 1-star hotel, very budget, and I'm sure we got ripped off for what we paid.
Beds were uncomfortable, I couldn't lie on my side because every spring was digging into me!
Hygiene and cleanliness of the rooms is an issue... When we checked in and were sent to our room, it hadn't even been cleaned from the last people who were in there! Why not just say to us "your room isn't ready yet"?? Stuff was left in drawers, and the bathroom hadn't been cleaned in years. All they do is wipe it over with some water, but some strong chemicals are needed in there!

The main guy was quite hopeless, although his wife was lovely and pleasant. But the overall organisation of the hotel was appalling. Breakfast wasn't too bad, but sometimes we waited 45minutes just for them to bring out our bread!! They would come out and laugh, "oops I forgot about you!! Ha ha!!" So don't sit here and wait if you are on a time schedule, need to catch a bus etc.

The stay was fine, but we are backpacking so are used to crappy hostels etc. Our advice is don't pay hotel rates and expect anything much at all!

Room Tip: There is no air conditioning and you have to pay an extra €5 to get a sea view

Disappointing. Fair at best for us. There was clutter and unclean plates on the tables in the bar restaurant. The owner appeared to be doing it all himself. The room had clutter on top of the closet in the bedroom. The fans were dusty. There was stuff left behind in the drawers. In the bathroom, the hot water was not working when we wanted it (despite the hotel advertising 24 hour hot water). When I complained about this, the owner said this was the only time it had happened.... Water also spilled out of the sink drainage onto the bathroom floor leaving it wet. There was no remote for the TV. The "beach" nearby below is a small pebble cove. Looking out of our window towards it, we saw more crap on the roof and trash below leading to the beach area (some construction appeared half-in-progress or abandoned).

The hotel is a fairly long walk with packs from the bus depot (maybe 1.5 km?) in Samos town. When called, the owner said he was unable to come to pick us up at that time (would take awhile...), so we opted to walk.

This was the best budget hotel I have ever stayed in. For €20 a night I got my own twin room with balcony overlooking a pristine beach. The owners were so charming and they had a lovely restaurant and shop with beer and ice cream. Really couldn't ask for more.

The manager was rude, didnt speak english and left all of the washing up, cooking to the new staff member who is a lovely woman who did speak english and was most helpful.
The rooms were second rate at best. No airconditioning. According to a very popular travel book the airconditioning should have been installed by now. The bathroom sink leaked so we got wet feet all of the time. The bathroom was 'snug' and no curtain etc.
It's a pity it got such a good rap when it was such a disapointment.
Wont use it again

The hotel is in a good spot, away from the people and maybe a ten minute walk from the port. The hotel was kinda creepy -- big and empty, not warm or cozy at all. Just bare, high ceilings, white walls, long dark corridors. However, it was pretty clean and there were balconies overlooking the sea. We thought 50 euro was a tad high for this place as it was beyond basic and it was nearly off-season. There was no AC just a fan (that kinda blew up on us in the middle of the night). The beds were very uncomfortable and each spring could be felt. It was basically a cheap place to sleep and could have been a lot worse. The breakfast was OK. The owner was nice and as far as Greeks went during this vacation, he was friendly. There are computer/internet stations to use (for a fee) and he sells water, soda, yogurt, snacks and booze in his restaurant, which is convenient. Never ate a meal there besides the included breakfast (toast, coffee and an egg).

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony overlooking the water or else you might get a room looking at the hosp...

Pythagoras Hotel in on Samos Island is ideally located, but poorly managed and without air conditioning. This is a one star hotel, charging 3 star prices (35E) - avoid it at all costs - the shower doesn't even have a shower curtain or enclosure.

What a disappointment, I plan to have it out with my travel agent at Bonita Travel in Istanbul - I paid four star rates and have gotten two star reservations....
