My boyfriend and I went to the Areti in early July for 2 weeks. We travelled with First Choice and requested a double bed and pool view. When we got there, we had neither, but discovered that no rooms had a pool view or double beds! Not an issue though, the single beds (pushed together!) were comfortable and the view of the sea from the pool area was amazing. The Areti is situated in Troulos which is a tiny resort with a few tavernas and a great beach. The Areti is high up on the hill, it has got a steep slope but it's really not as bad as everyone's making out! We had a car for the whole two weeks which allowed us to travel to different beaches and into Skiathos town every night but the Areti is right opposite bus stop 17 which is very handy if you don't want a car. We had a one bedroom apartment at the Areti and have no complaints. The room was very large with a basic kitchen. The bins were emptied every day and the beds made for us, the towels and sheets changed every other day. The pool was spotless and Vincent takes a lot of care with keeping it maintained. There wasn't really a restaurant at the Areti, just frozen burgers and hot dogs though the Greek salads were good! We would recommend these apartments to anyone, also the Meating Place restaurant in Skiathos Town was fantastic. It's set back from the harbour, near the 'Venue' bar. There's lots of night life, plenty of bars and restuarants, and a 'club strip' near the new harbour. We went on a boat trip for the day which was really relaxing and I'd again recommend it! It was Evdora's catamaran and took you sailing across to Skopelos to a beautiful bay for lunch and swimming/snorkeling. Was a great day. All in all it was a lovely holiday and the Areti was fantastic

Having spent our last 6 holidays in Santorini, we decided it was time for a change. Short flight, short transfer, really cheap, and still in Greece.
It does not say in the brochure but car hire is a must!! We do not drive, and so walked many miles in the first few days. The bus service is good, right outside the hotel, but only every half hour. Either side of the hotel are steep hills, and then, there is the very steep drive up to the studios. But when you get there the view from the pool area is amazing, as is the pool area itself.
The pool, pool bar and bar manger Vincent really made our holiday. Vincent was very attenitive, polite and helpful, and all this could be done in five languages. The area was always spotlessly clean, and nothing too much trouble. In fact, you would have thought he was the owner, and not just an employee.
There are thee blocks of apartment at the Areti, and I believe they are owned by different family members. Only one of these owners, a lady, was present, and was very reluctant to speak with guests. Any interaction with guests was left to Vincent - the bar manger!!
Whilst the bar was very well stocked, and open til all hours, bar snacks were not available until June 1st, the day we left. As it was a long walk downhill to any shops, or tavernas, bar snacks would have been very popular.
Lastly, the one thing that really spolt our stay at the Areti. Our room, no. 12, backed on the the maids accomodation. Whilst they did a very good job of the cleaning, in the evenings they were very noisy. Playing loud music, shouting on mobile phones, and drinking outside our room. They were also smoking in their room, and as our rooms were adjoined with a large airvent in the bathroom, our room always smelt of cigarette smoke. Not very pleasant in your bedroom!!

Having just returned from Skiathos, I can say without any doubt that the Areti Studios were a great place to stay. The hill that everyone has mentioned is just a steepish slope, and you don't need a torch at night. The pool area is brilliant, always clean, tidy and is Paul's pride and joy.The room was clean, alright it was basic, but that's Greece for you, the cleaners were in every day, except Sunday, and bed linen was changed on a regular basis.

A tip for people taking travellers cheques, be warned the banks in town charge 2 euro PER CHEQUE to cash!!!!

view from apartments or pool to sea are spectacular (worth a supplement)
steep rise to rooms but manageable and i have heart condition
apartments I stayed in no. 40 something was basic but v. good and clean
pool area good. sunbeds for approx 30 people at no cost
bar prices good; litre beer 3 euro, soft drink 1.5
staff friendly without being in your face.
resort rep (first choice) don't remember his name but again v.good without being in your face.
re. prices: everyone commenting on how expensive...compare with any big city back home and think again.

Stayed at the Areti a couple of weeks ago, and i have to say it was fantastic. The location of the hotel is excellent, as the beach at Agia Paraskevi is only a five minute walk away (down a dirt track) or the beach at Troulos is a 15 minute walk in the opposite direction. There is a steep ish hill leading to the apartments but this is usually the case in Greece, and it is worth it for the amazing views from the balcony or the pool!
The rooms are clean and tidy, and towels are changed frequently. The views from the balconies are spectacular. Just watch out for the giant spiders!
The pool is lovely, especially at night when you can sit and have a cocktail or two and relax, and the barman is really nice and very friendly.
Troulos is not much of a resort there is a few restaurants but not that many, but there are buses every 15 minutes to Skiathos town which has hundreds of restaurants, bars and clubs! And the resort of Agia Paraskevi is a 10 minute walk the in the opposite direction. Skiathos is quite expensive but no more so than any other Greek islands at the moment, although some cocktails in the clubs could set you back 12 euros!

An appartment set in a beautiful location overlooking the sea, the only draw back is actually walking up the very long steep driveway - not suitable for the infirm.
The appartments are clean and more than adequate; you are in Greece, the Pool Area and Bar are also well kept by the most polite and well travelled bar/pool-man from the Czech Republic.
The island is very expensive and the cost of food and drink is far more expensive than the UK so take plenty Euros!!!
Car Hire is essential, the roadways are reasonable, so long as you are sensible, but beware of the system for payment!!! My man from the The First Car And Motorbike Rental In Skiathos was competitive and reliable, as was the new vehicle, a Jimny he hired to me, which I arranged over the Internet.
The island of Skiathos is very green with much vegetation, even after last years horrendous fires; no industry other than the Tourist one and companies that service it.
Quaint 'International' Airport, check though to see if your flight is delayed as once you have past Passport Control the Departure Area is not one to spend a great deal of time in.
Great holiday in the sun with many excellent beaches and restaurants to choice from.

We stayed at the Areti in August this year, the Areti is situated at the top of a steep hill, with all facilities on either side of the hill. You then had to walk up an even steeper hill to get to the apartments, BUT once you got to the top, the view was breathtaking. The room that we stayed in was lovely, it had two twin beds , small kitchen area, shower and toilet downstairs and a mezzanine floor with double bed and seperate shower and toilet as well. The rooms were air conditioned (cost extra) but it did not reach the upstairs level, and it was unbearably hot up there. The view from our balcony was spectacular.
The pool was quite small and there was a shortage of sunbeds, we were having to get up early to ensure that we got one as some people were reserving theirs at an ungodly hour. The pool bar was limited, it run out of beer and can you believe it they had no Ouzo . This was rectified after we moaned at the barman. The food menu was poor, and there were no snacks or ice creams available for the kids . As the nearest shops were down the bottom of two steep hills, it was not as if you could just pop down and get the kids some sweets or treats if they fancied it. You had to make sure that you stocked your room up. No mean feat if you had not hired a car. Walking up all those hills carrying the essentials, like water and milk, beer and wine was not a nice experience. The barman Alex, left after our first week, everything then seemed to go wrong. The pool went green and had strange insects living in it, the water dried up and we had no water to shower or flush our toilets with, this took several days to rectify, the owner had to buy water in. The new barman was totally underqualified to prepare food , serve drinks or maintain the pool. He seemed better at sharing his attention with the younger female guests. We frequently had to chase him out of the kitchen, where he would be with his latest conquest. In a nutshell, if you are looking for great views, this is the place for you. If you dont like very steep hills, it is not. If you are looking for a pool based holiday, you will be disapointed. The maid service was excellant , the rooms were tidied everyday. Linen done every other day. We wont be going back.
