Great location, quiet, beautifully kept - nice pool area with plenty of sunbeds. Food is really good in the poolside snack bar. Apartments very clean and in good condition. Have tried other accommodation in Skiathos but this is by far our favourite.

We stayed in the ground floor 1 bed room apartment for four. The staff were polite and friendly. The room was not as clean as we would have expect as the bins were only emptied every other day and on one occasion it was the third day . The bedding and towels were changed twice weekly. The kitchen area was small and there was very little kitchen equipment (cork screw, chopping board, can opener) or food preparation surface. We have stayed in Skiathos for the last 8 years and the position of the apartments were ideal for the beaches around Koukounaries and the bars and restaurants.

this was our first time to skiathos, 2 week stay and staying at eliso studio & apartments was an ideal place to start ,the room / apartment was very clean and plenty big enough for two, very clean as the maid came in everyday except sunday. there is a good pool and bar, and the staff are very friendly also stavos the owner is there to help,we sat most evenings speaking and having a drink with him and his family when we came back late (11 ish) shame none of the other guests stayed up they all came back and went straight to bed.
REMEMBER TO WEAR GOOD MOSQUITO REPELENT AS THEY ARE EVERY WERE
being at eliso apartments is also a good base the local store is only 5 minutes walk away along with bars and resturants (BIG BAD WOLF, STROFILIA, LLIAS ORCHARD, STAMELOS TAVERNA & AGUSTERA BAR i will review these seprately).
if you wish to travel to skathos town the bus stop 23 is also the same 5 minutes walk as all the resturants /bars are on the main single skiathos road just to warn you the bus gets very crowded( bit like sardines) but is great value at only 2 euro per person to town, but if your not up to being squshed and sweaty there are taxis that you can flag down just get the price before you get in.
also remember if you hire a car/jeep there is zero tolerence to drink driving so if someone bumps into you it could be a longer stay than you thought (jail) its not worth it as there is one road on one side of the island and even the beaches on the other side you can only get to via boat.
walking distance to the main koukounaries beach which is approx 20 min through a gate next to the bus stop and just follow the path throught a second gate by the side of a river over the bridge (hopefully seeing the two black swans) and your there.
and mandraki beach is approx 25 mins going the other side of the island going along a very sandy path through the pine forest this was our favorite beach less busy but still with a taverna which you could buy food and drink.

Room Tip: all rooms are good just very hot so recommend having air conditioning

Stayed in Eliso with 2 other friends this Summer for 2 weeks. The staff at Eliso were polite, professional and friendly. Staff were always on hand to help (E.g.when we couldn't work out how to use the safe)

The rooms and pool area were always clean and tidy, the pool area appears small, however there were always sunbeds free :) The pool bar is really good value for money! Food was simple (chips, toasted sandwiches etc) but cheap enough to eat there for breakfasts and lunches. The Sunday BBQ is a must! Not only is it good value, but it gets you talking to others on the resort (If thats your thing)

The hotel is one of the furthest away from Skiathos town however this isn't a negative! You're far away enough from the nightlife to not hear it, but as other reviews have stated its not too bad a journey on the bus into town! (2 euros each way)

We visited Mandraki beach (we had hired a car so drove) which was beautiful! from what others at the hotel had said it was about a 20 minute walk! they have sunbeds there to hire and its reasonably priced! (11 euros for 3 beds)

We hired a jeep for 4 days from europcar for 180 euros and it was money well spent!

We drove to the medievil town of Kastro (which is not reachable by bus) the only other way there is to take a day boat trip! It is not suitable for pushchairs, or wheelchair access or people who would stuggle to walk down steep rocky, uneven hillsides. However the beach is beautiful and the walk up to Kastro is tiring but worth it!

I recommend the Island hopper excursion with Thompson! It was great to go to Alonnissis and Skopelos. It was fantastic! I suggest the town visit that is offered by victoria in Skopelos, it was fantastic to see the 'real' town!

I Suggest going to see Mama Mia at the open air cinema in town! Its 8 euros each and worth it! It's so much fun and the people who work there help make it even more entertaining!

There are plenty of excellent places to eat in skiathos, The Big Bad Wolf is nice as it has plenty of choice, however I felt that the customer service wasn't great! everything was a 'bit too difficult'.

Overall our stay at Eliso was perfect! an excellent small, friendly resort and I would reccommend it to anyone!

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at the Eliso. For a complete relaxing and 'chill out' 10 days we can't recommend the Eliso and everyone who works there enough. Savos who manages the site is a complete gentleman and was always available to speak and even share a lovely cold "Mythos" with on the odd occasion.

The pool area is lovely and it was so refreshing that we didn't come down at any time during any day to sunbeds drapped in towels.

Mary was lovely who served us drinks and snacks throughout the day especially the Frappes... She actually showed us how to make them before we came home, although I don't think they will taste the same sipping them as we sit out looking out to rain and clouds!!!

The barbeque was a nice treat on Sunday, made by Mary's mum... yum, yum, yum.... lovely.

We hired a little jeep and driving through the forest in a 4x4 and just gazing at the amazing jaw dropping scenes you come across was a real highlight.

We can also recomend a visit (or two or three) to the Agustera Bar where you will be welcomed by Dino, Effi and Lesley, however we will warn you that Dino's cocktails become more and more elaborate... try a few and you will see what we mean!!!

And finally I do have to make a comment about our Thomson Rep. Mark. Mark was an absolute star, nothing seemed to be a problem for him and even when he wasn't officially working, he never seemed to be off duty......

If you love Greek Islands for a relaxing holiday as we do, then a stay at the Eliso in Skiathos is a must.

My husband and I have just returned from 10 days at the Eliso with Thomson. The only real problem for us is the nearly 3 hours drive to & from our UK airport. I hadn't done much research before we left so was "interested" when our pilot announced that we'd be landing on Europe's shortest runway so there'd be a lot of reverse thrust noise to slow us down! It was a very smooth landing and we had a few minutes wait while the one other plane there cleared the apron before we could disembark. We walked the 50 metres or so to the terminal building and passed very quickly through Passport control, as there were no staff there. How wonderfully Greek! We left our luggage for the truck to deliver and were dropped off about 5 minutes walk from the Eliso studios, up a rough road along the edge of the forest. The studios were very nice: beautifully secluded and peaceful, clean, nicely equipped and exactly what we needed. The fridge could have done with defrosting and I probably wouldn't recommend the beds to honeymooners but we had several linen and towel changes and the bins were emptied frequently. We've visited Greece many times and no longer feel the need to explore islands trapped in hot cars or coaches. We did walk down to the beach but, as we live by the sea at home, we don't get huge satifaction from spending holidays getting sand in our nooks and crannies. We spent the whole holiday reading by the lovely pool and it was a great way to recharge our severely depleted batteries. We found several good eateries and would recommend Big Bad Wolf, Stamelos Taverna's set Chinese menu and Under the Pine Tree for lovely souvlaki. The journey back was slightly stressful as we had to wait a while for our luggage to join us at the airport but the plane left early and arrived at Gatwick 20 minutes before it was due. Just what we needed and highly recommended.

Eliso is a family run purpose built complex consisting of two apartment blocks, a pool and bar. First impressions were favourable. We were greeted by the family who run the place, shown to our room and re-united with our cases within minutes of arriving. The rooms are comfortably furnished and ours had twin beds, wardrobe, dressing table cupboard and a safe with air conditioning and French windows leading onto a small balcony with a table and chairs. There is a 'kitchenette' with hob and fridge, sink and cutlery. (We only used the fridge, to chill our water!) A shower, sink and toilet complete the facilities. Room is functional and ours was spotlessly clean and towels were changed regularly. On arrival we noticed we had wasps building a nest inside the wardrobe. This was probably due to both front and rear doors being left open ready for our arrival. I popped to the bar to report it and it was sorted immediately. (My only criticism of the room would be the pillows aren't supportive enough for my liking; a really minor point). Bedding was spotless too as were the towels. The pool bar has a TV, music, books and games and a covered 'al fresco' area which provides usesful shade. Bar snacks are not expensive and there is a decent choice. The food quality is good and the bar is well stocked. Cooked breakfasts seemed to become more generous the more I ordered! The bar staff and staff in general are perfect if you prefer a quiet chilled break. They are friendly but not intrusive and very competent with no fuss. Food and drinks are brought to the table. The very well maintained clean pool has a jacuzzi corner and a kids paddling corner, and has a shallow and deep end (the kids corner if that's what it is is next to the deep end so children must be supervised there). The gardens are kept very tidy and are well planted and the planters around the pool are a nice touch. There are comfortable sun loungers and quality parasols too. The location will suit some and not others depending on mobility and expectations. Eliso is situated at the edge of a pine forest along a sandy fairly flat track which winds between hotel gardens initially then through the trees and up a long driveway past 'parking spaces' (short grass area). This has been well planned; no one hired a car while we were there but it is clear that they are not allowed close to the pool bar or accomodation area. It takes about eight minutes to get from the apartments to the main road, where there is a bus stop, car hire and supermarket plus a few tavernas, restaurants and bars. Take a torch; the track is not well lit in places.
REST OF THE ISLAND REVIEW:
Crete, Corfu, Mykonos all have their own Greek identities and Skiathos is no exception. A very pretty lush green island full of flowers in July evidences an unusually healthy spring rainfall (not so good if you were unfortunate enough to visit here looking for sun in May this year apparently). Steep hills are skirted by one winding main road from east to west on the southern side of the island linking the two bus terminals at the new port in Skiathos town to Banana beach. Buses run eVery 15 minutes in high season and if your accomodation is near this road you will be no more than 45 minutes from the town at a maximum cost of 2 euros per journey. If you are staying 'off the beaten track' then taxis cost around 17 euros for the longest journey (make sure you fill the car to share the cost). Buses were running until 1 am in July, but, as eighty thousand tourists hit an island of six thousand residents at peak times you need to allow for this. Most beach lovers pack the buses back to town from 5 pm until 8 pm and so you will often have to stand throughout the journey if you are lucky or wait ages for one to stop in the intermediate sections. There are plenty of places to eat in Skiathos town and around Troulos. The further away from town you travel the less choice you have but that doesn't diminish the standard in our experience. Everywhere we ate we found the service was fine and the food quality was decent. Costs were not unreasonable and all budgets and tastes are catered for. Sadly fresh fish is becoming expensive and take care when ordering if priced by weight. Only one restaurant (blue and white near far corner of old port by kiosk and steps) has a permit to catch it's own fish. It is refreshing to find a cheerful welcome when eating in Skiathos but unlike many other resorts in Greece and Turkey we were not badgered by over eager waiters vying for our custom. The beaches are superb; if you are mobile try walking through the pine forests from the 'main attractions' (all excellent) around the headlands to less popular but very beautiful beaches. Another good morning was spent walking dogs at the Dog Rescue Centre! Try it it's a good walk from Troulos crossroads up the hilly road (about an hour and a half climb) then at the top is a small compound run by volunteers who need help to walk currently over 50 stray dogs they've rounded up. Strangely fulfilling but I'd recommend most people get transport there as it's very hot and a tough trek from Troulos. There's a small monastery next door which donated the land for the dogs, and good views and beaches can be reached further on. Had a really enjoyable evening trip around the town which set the scene for our stay with an excellent guide called Michael taking in local history, views, churches and houses plus a few anecdotes. Around the old and new ports of Skiathos town the seafront is lined by cafes and restaurants, and the harbour is full of yachts and fishing boats making a very pleasant scene day or night. There is an open air cinema and plenty of shops to browse. Rumours of celebrities being spotted abound and judging by the hire costs of some of those magnificent cruisers I wouldn't be surprised to bump into a few famous faces. There is a nightclub strip which cranks up between 1 am and 6 am but appears to be limited to small part of the town; might be noisy if your hotel is nearby. To sum up Skiathos, if you like sandy beaches or water activities you don't have to look far; it's a small island with plenty to do. If you like eating out and mooching around town you have a good choice. If you want to be exclusive there are some swish hill top boutique hotels and eateries. If you are a family and take teenagers they are catered for day and night. It's a slightly more traditional Greek island than many which caters for everyone and no doubt will become more and more commercialised but still retains the charm of an unspoilt island if you want to find it. This is due to two things; no main road to the northern half of the island and the airstrip (not a runway!) which is an experience I'll leave you to enjoy!
