Very pleased with the location and standard of accommodation. Bedding & towels changed regularly and room cleaned every day except Sundays, so can't complain. Kitchen basic but all you need for a typical Greek self-catering holiday ie. no cooking! Fridge for drinks etc, two rings for heating water for tea/coffee. Room 8 overlooks the street which could be noisy at times - I suspect this varies according to the time of year. The main problem is there is a street light directly opposite which is very bright at night and lights up the room. So be aware. As stated elsewere the shower room is very good lots of hot water at a good pressure, the sliding door to the shower enclosure was missing but so what? Overall very good and better than most. Stayed last week of June first week of July.

Room Tip: Room 8 overlooks the street - but has a street lamp which lights the room at night. Also has a doubl...

I've been umming and aahing about whether to give Alkmene 4 or 5 blobs - 4.5 would be about right!
This is a great place to stay. On a quiet side street 2 minutes walk from Papadiamantis, less than 10 minutes to Megali Ammos beach, less than 5 minutes to bus stops and the Carrefour supermarket.
The apartments are typical simple Greek style studios. The entrance hall is a bit dingy, but the rooms are fine. Fairly modern fittings and bathrooms, and even a shower cubicle (but no door!) Lashings of hot water at all hours of the day and night, and a lovely powerful shower - other places please note!
Mini-oven and rings, a very efficient fridge, smallish balcony with a good view over gardens towards the town.
Cleaning service better than most places as well - this is the first time in ages I've had my bed re-made and my washing-up put away!
This was an ideal location for me, on my own for a walking holiday in May. I would not recommend it for peak season though, as there is no air-con.

Very nice basic apartments. Cleaned daily nice bathroom, all very clean. Central location, close to town centre, bus stop to all beaches. Transfer from airport 10 minutes. Quiete although they are central. Fruit trees at the rear, orange, lemon and satsuma,

My wife and I have stayed at Alkmene three times now and were a bit concerned by the negative reviews this year. However on arrival we were please to find almost everything in good repair. New sink in the bathroom with a plug that worked. New toilet and cistern. The fridge in good condition and a new oven. One of the shower cubicle doors had come off the runners but it only took five minutes to put it back on. Having stayed there before I knew it was easier to do this myself than to seek help. At the end of the first week more maintenance was done while we were out and we returned to find a new shower head had been fitted and the shower cubicle doors had actually been replaced, unfortunately whoever fitted these caused a leak from the pipes and dislodged the seal around the base of the shower so for the second week the bathroom floor was a bit wet. But never mind, this is Greece. Everything else was fine except the cleaner didn’t replace the toilet roll until it actually ran out. Which it did on three occasions over the two weeks. Lessons to be learnt. Don’t employ Greek plumbers. Do buy a pack of loo rolls from the shop on the corner. All good fun, will probably go there again.

Room Tip: Have stayed on all three floors and they are all OK

We have been going to Skiathos now for over 10 years and have never done a package. Wanting a last minute trip to the island before the winter set in, we couldnt find flights and starting searching for a cheap package. Olympic came up with Alkmene.
There are often quite negative reviews about the Alkmene Studios and we had our concerns, being classed as 'basic' but we were really surprised and pleased. We had room 12 on the top floor overlooking the street but it was quiet and of course, as many will say, in a great location in Skiathos Town.
My criteria for a room is "clean" and "plenty of hot water". We had both. Also a huge balcony with table and chairs and a small kitchenette with what appeared to be a new fridge. Basic utensils, but then how many of us cook when on holiday!
The only downside (if you want to call it a negative) was that the bathroom had a proper oval shaped enclosed shower cubicle but the central panel was either missing or, we thought, had never been fitted, hence the water shot all over the bathroom floor! However, many small Greek rooms dont have any screen and are basically a "wet room", so it didnt bother us - the maid came in every day so we always returned to a tidied room and a dry bathroom. In fact, the maid was excellent.
Wouldnt hesitate to stay again or recommend to people. At just £370 each for flights and the room it was a good reasonably priced holiday.

We stayed for 7 nights, booked through Olympic Holidays. I was a bit worried after reading some of the reviews, but needn't have been. We had a ground floor studio, facing out on to the garden. Basic but clean. Two single beds, cooking facilities and fridge, bathroom with shower. We had a sweet little terrace looking out over the garden. We didn't have any problem with noise like some of the reviewers.

We knew there was no air conditioning (that's clear in the description on the website) but hired a fan and didn't have any problem sleeping and we stayed in August when the temperature on one day was 38 degrees.

The best thing is the location. Right at the top of the main street (which is pedestrianised) so great for shops (supermarket about 20 yards), bars, restaurants. About 10 minutes walk to the harbour, or same in the other direction for the beach. You get use of the pool at Taxiarchis round the corner as well.

The photos in the brochure are out of date, and Alkmene has even refurbished since they were taken. Would recommend to anyone who wants to be in the centre of Skiathos and would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Back of building more attractive and terraces on ground floor more spacious than balconies on higher...

Booked on a last minute deal through Thomas Cook. After reading the reviews here, we were a little concerned about what we had let ourselves in for!

Very pleasantly surprised-the accommodation is basic (but that's what I've been told Greece is like in general!) It's incredibly clean, someone came in and cleaned and tidied whilst we were out every day, and linen and towels were changed midway through the week. Beds were a little creaky and the balcony small...but you get what you pay for! And you don't spend alot of time in the room anyway! Kitchen consisted of a sink, kettle and oven/hob. Again, very basic but well-equipped; perfect for the purpose!

Bathroom was clean, although there was a shower door missing (seemed to be the norm!) You do flood the bathroom everytime you shower, but it dries up quickly! Not a big deal! (Although any first Greek-timers need to be prepared that toilet paper cannot be put down the toilet, but needs to go into the provided bin...)

Lack of air con was noticed, but as had been previously noted, fans are available to rent.

Very impressed with what we got for the price we paid. Would probably even rate it a 3*. We had a brilliant holiday!
