“Excellent Choice”

We chose this hotel after reading reports on TripAdvisor. We agree with all the favourable comments that have been made by other travellers. In a nut shell, it is a family run small hotel which is modern, comfortable, spotlessly clean and in an ideal location for Skiathos town. The family and the staff take great care of their guests as evidenced by the large number of those returning - some prebook for twice a year. This is an excellent choice of accommodation for a holiday on Skiathos and it played a large part in one of our most enjoyable holidays.

Skiathos town was our prefered location as it is a delightful harbour town with plenty of interest and good restaurants/bars. We never had a bad meal and ate at: Amfiliki - near the Medical centre: Plakes - beyond the old harbour: 1901, Steak and Grill, Marias - all near the church up from the middle of the old harbour: and Dinos in the Main Street to name but a few. The beaches are wonderful and those on the South coast are easily reached using the Buses that run every 20 mins. Bus Stop 1 is less than a 100 mts from the hotel. We rented a car for 2 days which was well worthwhile permitting us to visit Kastro (Skiathos old town on the North coast), 2 nice monastries, and extra beaches like Mandraki.

All in all, this was a most enjoyable holiday on a lovely island staying in ideal accommodation. One tip - pick up a free map of the town and island from the rack in the arrivals hall at the airport.

We've just got back from Costas and Mary Hotel, and it's the best small and friendly hotel we have ever stayed in. We had read all the reports on Trip Advisor before we went and were really loking forward to our holiday. On arrival at the hotel Mary introduced herself to us all and then took everybody to their rooms which I thought was a nice touch. Although the rooms are basic, they were a good size and kept spotless by Mary, Claudia and Valentina. The bedding and towels were changed regular and were of an excellent quality, not like some hotels were they are thin and worn out. The pool although small is ample for the size of the hotel and the sunbeds all have cushions on them.
We went to a different beach everyday and the hotel is 2minutes walk from bus stop 1.
We have been to Skiathos twice before, staying in Koukanaries and Aghia Paraskevi and much prefer staying in town, as It was only 5 minutes walk to the hotel from the town centre. We always called at the bar in the hotel for our last drink and you could guaranteee that Mary would be there asking everybody had they had a good day, she was always interested in what you had to say. I don't know how she did it, as she was up at 6am every morning to ensure we were all looked after at breakfast.
One evening she was saying how some of her guests had asked for a more varied breakfast , which we found quite adequate for what we had paid. If you want a full buffet with all the trimmings you go to a 4 or 5 star hotel and pay their prices.
Breakfast was always entertaining and you couldn't fail to leave without a smile on your face, as Claudia is quite a character.
We have had a brilliant holiday and intend to stay with Costas and Mary again.

Hi there,
I use trip advisor regularly as we travel quite a lot but this is actually my first review (I thought it only fair to input as well)! Upon arrival we boarded the coach from the airport and it seemed only literally 5 minutes and we were at the hotel. We were dropped off at the top end of the road as the road was too narrow for the coach. We left our cases at the airport and they said they would deliver direct to the hotel for us (which they did and all fine). The cases were dropped off at the hotel gates and my partner had to carry up to reception. Along the way we asked a chap where we go to reception and he pointed where we should go, it turned out to be the son who maintains the bar/pool area. He didn't actually say "I will help you with those" just left us to struggle a bit. When we arrived in the hotel, we were met by Mary who I must say is lovely and very friendly. She is very proud of her hotel and so she should be, its absolutely spotless. She then showed us to our room which was great my other half, struggled yet again up 2 flights of stairs with the cases, which seems to be the norm so don't expect a porter or anything grand like that! The hotel is not very large probably about 22 rooms I think so it definitely is what Thomson refers "Small and Friendly" which suited us fine. We had to pay 50 Euro for aircon and 15 Euro for safe deposit. The hotel breakfast is ok but quite basic so don't expect a huge variety. Pool area once again, very clean, quite a small pool but we always got a sunbed (when the sun shone) - There is a pool bar which sell great snack food but no restaurant. Shame because we actually had 4 bad days weatherwise and only went for 7 so it did spoil it a bit for us really! Skiathos Town is literally a 5-10 mins walk away so the location is superb, no hills to contend with either. We managed to only once get to the beach (and there are many) namely one called Achiladies (not sure of the spelling) and it was lovely. The buses in town are great and very regular, all the bus stops being numbered, so check your map (which you get at the airport) and off you go. We managed to get a boat back to town which was great, they come along every hour. Had some great meals in town, my favourite being Maria's who sell gorgeous pizza/pasta - very romantic place, you always have to wait though for a table as very popular so be patient. All in all a lovely holiday. Hope this helps in some way.

Having read the good reviews on trip advisor beforehand, we didn't worry too much about what to expect. We were not disappointed. Mary met us on arrival and showed us to our room which was beautiful. It had a pool view and was lovely and cool so didn't need air conditioning, everything was spotless. Bedding changed regularly and towels every other day. The bathrooms are pretty small and there is a shower which you have to hold over a shower tray. This was not a problem as we know this is the norm in Greece. We had a bit of a flood on our first night of showering where the water was seeping up through the vent in the floor. We told Mary and within a few minutes Costas came and sorted it out.

There is not a fridge in the rooms but we found the prices at the poolside bar very cheap and it's open til 1am so you can just pop down and get drinks to take back to the room.

Costas, Mary and 2 sons (who run reception and bar) were all very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Mary was fussing over my daughter and kept giving her little treats.

The girls at breakfast were also lovely, Claudia likes to sing and have a banter with the guests but we did not find this at all offensive.

Skiathos is a beautiful island and this was our 5th time on the island. The town is about 5 mins walk down a path, you may need a torch when coming back to the hotel, we brought one!

There are some lovely restaurants where we ate: Plakes which had lovely views, excellent food and very reasonable. Asprolithos - lovely restaurant, pleasant staff and again excellent food at reasonable prices and Lynhari, again beautiful food, very reasonable.

You find with Costas and Mary that the people in the hotel all know each other as they've been going year after year. It was our 1st time there but it didn't take long for us to know everyone else staying there with it being so small and friendly plus my 9 yr old daughter liked chatting to everyone she met.

With the hotel being small, you get mainly couples staying there and therefore my daughter hadn't anyone to play with in the pool but we went out most days to one of the beaches, which are fantastic.

When we return again we would not hesitate in staying at Costas and Mary, it is the best we've stayed at in Skiathos and a fab location.

I travelled to Skiathos with my husband and sister in law & husband having never been before (although a lover of the greek islands). The Kostas and Mary hotel is in a very central location on the edge of Skiathos town, perfectly located for you to be able to walk into the town/harbour in a couple of mins but far enough away for it to be peaceful and quiet. It is also very near the bus terminal where you can pick up a bus every 15 mins which travels along the south side of the island (to the popular beaches). Luckily its location is next to bus stop one which should mean you get a seat as the buses get very full and you always end up with someone else almost sitting on your lap as the driver will continue to let people on no matter how full the bus! Cost approx 2 euro. The rest of the island you can only reach via your own transport but is def worth visiting. We hired a car from one the places along the harbour for approx 50 euro's a day and easily saw all of the island in a couple of days.

The hotel itself is a small family run hotel with approx 20 rooms. The rooms and the public areas are spotless and the gardens and pool (although small) are very well maintained. There is a bar which is open until 1am and in the day you can get bar snacks (very cheap). Mary & Kostas obviously take real pride in their place for example during our stay they received (what seemed an unjustifiable) poor review and Mary was obviously upset and distressed by the comments as she wants everyone to enjoy their stay.

You are greeted by Mary on arrival waiting outside the hotel and she makes you feeel welcome and takes you to your room. Mary and her staff are very friendly and try to built a rapport with their guests. If you prefer to be left alone this might not be the place for you as they treat everyone like family and have many many guests returning year after year so you very soon get talking to others and see the same faces everyday at breakfast. Having said this we dont like to be over familiar and normally had a quick laugh and chat with everyone at breakfast and then went off for the day as planned. I'm sure that you could if you opened yourself up to it become even more familiar with Mary/Kostas and staff if you wanted and we had to make an effort not to become entailed.

The breakfast is good and they offer the same as you would get in a 5 star hotel. The ladies that serve the breakfast are even more friendly and will joke and chat with you and even sing you a song..:-)

The rooms are a good size and again as mentioned are very clean. They have a good size balcony and are cleaned daily and the towels replaced every other day. The only downside is they only seemed to have twin beds (pushed together) as opposed to double beds and the bathrooms are very small with a greek shower (so almost wet room like) although most greek bathrooms are like this unless you are prepared to pay 5 star prices. The rooms do not have fridge which we would have liked and you have to pay for air conditioning which was approx 7 euro's a night (but most hotels seemd to have this as an extra).

For those wanting a welcoming, good, clean hotel in a great location I would def recommend this hotel.

Just come home from a wonderful two week stay at Kosta's and Mary's! This hotel is really lovely and, as everyone has said, exceptionally clean. On our arrival Mary came to meet us from the coach and immediately made us feel welcome. The rooms are big and spacious by greek standards and there was plenty of wardrobe space and shelves for our many clothes! The rooms also have air conditioning and a hair dryer, which saves bringing one with you! The room also has a safety deposit box. (One word of warning, the air conditioning is a little expensive at 50 euro per week. The safety deposit box is 15 euro. As we wanted both and were were staying for two weeks, we had to pay 130 euro on arrival). Having said that, if this is a negative, everything else is a positive!
Breafast is a very pleasant experience, with Mary and her staff waiting to greet you, with plenty of tea and coffee at the ready and a table laden with almost everything you might want - cornflakes, cheese ham, boiled eggs, bread, jam and even cake, if you want a light breakfast and for those days when you want something more substantial there's omlette, sausages and beans!
The grounds and the pool area are also lovely and very clean. The pool bar is run by Mary and her family and open all day. The food available here is excellent value and the Chef's Salad very nice!
Skaithos Town itself, is wonderful, with lots of restaurants and bars. It's really worth taking a look around the little streets of the main street, you'll find yourself suddenly coming across little family run restaurants which you wouldn't see otherwise. They have excellent food at very reasonable prices! The Steak and Grill Restaurant is very good and the 1901 Restaurant is definitely worth a visit. We also used to go down to the harbour in the evening and have a couple of drinks in Jimmy's Bar and watch the fishing boats coming in, lovely!
Overall, a wonderful place, everybody is so friendly and the weather is wonderful! Would we go back to Skaithos? Absolutely! Would we go back to Kosta's and Mary's Hotel? In a heartbeat!!!!!!

We stayed at the Costas and Mary at the begining of August and what a fantastic hotel this is, the hotel is a few minutes walk from the main part of the town, however I would not have exchanged with a hotel in the centre of town. On arrival we were made to feel very welcome our room was very clean and spacious even with 3 beds. The pool area was great we were the only family there with a child who is aged 6 and Mary and Costas made a fuss of him as did all the guests staying at the hotel.
The town you will be spoilt for choice for dinking and eating be aware of the prices of drinks and try to buy at the happy hour times.
This hotel makes you feel like one big happy family staff and guests.
I would not hesitate going back to Skiathos - only if we could stay at the Costas and Mary !
