Hotel Egeo
Reviewed 28 August 2011

We really enjoyed our stay at the Egeo and have already recommended it to people.

The hotel is in a quiet location and is only a short stroll to the centre of town.

The hotel is spotlessly clean. Easily the best accommodation we've experienced in Greece. Breakfast was basic but exactly what you would expect in Greece. People moaning need a reality check! The fresh homemade cake each day was a nice touch.

Great hotel on a lovely island. Hopefully we will be able to return in the near future.

We booked a last minute package holiday due to the flights being so expensive. We had to go to Thassos as we were visiting my mum who lives out there.
Thomson had described it perfectly. Small traditional greek hotel with basic greek breakfast.
The hotel is spotless and quiet all night, two minutes walk to the harbour, 5 into town attractions or the beach.
Rooms are basic but you get what you pay for, i have seen other peoples reviews and it always amazes me that poeple expect 5 star hotels for 2 star prices.
I will definately reccomend to my family who will be going out next year.

The Egeo hotel was a little difficult to locate in the city of Thassos but with good reason. It is very small (just 11 rooms) and is secluded among other residential buildings overlooking a wide storm drain. However, the trees were covering the balconies so no worries about the storm drain and lots of shadow and cool breeze because of the trees.
The hotel is very clean, there is no reception but the housekeeper Katerina is always there. The breakfast is typical but you can grab it for the room and eat it later. There was always a home made cake left at the reception for the guests to eat whenever they fell like it.
Since there were less than 20 guests the hotel was very quiet and we completely relaxed. Bring a car with you or rent one and the hotel provides a parking under a fig tree :)

I managed to book this hotel for a week on an amazing deal through Thopmson's late deals page.I was not expecting much for the price but was gob smacked!!
The hotels cleanliness is fantastic rooms are cleaned every day and linen changed every three. We couldn't get many channels on the TV but if you stayed in Thassos before you know there many other things to do, as your so closely situated near the town center Limenas.
We found a great restaurant called "TO REYSTIKON" , this is worth taking note of as the giros they make here are to die for, as we found out and kept going back for more...
Also while your there go to the old harbor and book a boat trip, we paid 25 euro's each including BBQ. This was the most memorable part of the holiday and we saw some dolphins added bonus!!
Seriously don't listen to the bad comments made about this hotel, you wont be disappointed. I'm a clean freak and i was happy, thanks Egeo, see you again next year!!

Just spent a week with my wife at the Egeo. Well managed and spotlessly clean, in a convenient area, decent breakfast. HOWEVER...the balcony leaves much to be desired.
8 out of the 10 rooms overlook the storm drain, this in itself would be acceptable but the view from the balcony is NON EXISTANT, between the storm drain and the balcony are hideous leafy trees which are taller than the hotel and are INCHES away from the balcony. There is no daylight/sunlight. The balcony itself is split from the next room with a partial plastic divider providing no privacy. If you want a hotel as a base just to sleep in then OK but if you want to relax on a nice balcony with something to see other than insects crawling the trees inches from your face then the Egeo is not for you.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the two rooms on the opposite side to the storm drain.

Stayed at this hotel for two weeks. Never stayed in a cleaner hotel in all the years we've been going to Greece. Well situated, short walk to the bus station and into town, this hotel is tucked away just behind the main road. Although the breakfasts are a little repetitive, they are continental and are just what you would expect. Katerina runs the hotel and does it extremely well! No complaints at all. We were lucky, in room 207 which has two balconies and is spacious and attractive. Would return here without hesitation. Recommend eating out at Mouses, Mysogios, Tavernaki and Rumours. If going to Golden Beach - which is a must - pop into the Dolphin taverna (at the bottom end), hidden from view by new buildings but well worth a lunch.

Room Tip: Bright, colourful room no 207. Two balconies! Double and single bed. Plenty of room.

This little place is really nice for a basic two star establishment. We were in Room 204 on the first floor , it had twin beds and was the size one would expect for two people, we found it more than adequate. There is a fridge (with an ice compartment for those G&Ts!) and a hairdrier and shaver socket in the bathroom. The rooms are double glazed and were extremely quiet at night. As said by others the rooms are very clean (cleaned daily 7 days a week) and fresh towels / bedding is provided every three days. Having stayed there for two weeks we were really surprised at some of the negative comments, the beds are firm but caused us no problems and the bathroom was one of the better ones we have had in Greece. The shower is a little small and the shower curtain had a tendency to attack and wrap itself round you but not really the end of the world and heck we have been lots of places in Greece with no curtains at all.
With regard to the storm drain that has been commented on we were overlooking this and it really is no problem, perhaps worse on the ground floor. We were there in the last two weeks of June and saw no Mosquitos. In terms of derelect buildings I didn't even notice what was being referred to for several days and it really was not as bad as it sounds. The lane to the hotel is not pitch black as reported there are lights but again this is Greece, get a torch if it is a problem.
The cakes that are provided daily are a nice little touch and a first in my experience. the breakfast I thought was fairly typical of Greece (a few slivers of cheese and ham and weak orange but the yoghurt was pleasant), we decided that it was not really worth the effort and only went twice.
As regards Thassos we really enjoyed it despite the second weeks weather being poor. We found the traditional food to be excellent almost everywhere but I refrain from naming restaurants as food is a personal thing. We also thought that the prices were not expensive. As previously commented by others enjoyed Panagia and Theologos which are easily reached by bus. Thassos is very low key so by the end of the second week we were happy to come home.
To sum up a really nice hotel to stay in , one of the nicest we have been to in Greece.
