“Absolute rubbish- dont go”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2013

The restaurant really looks the part, quaint and very itallian, we were very dissapointed in the service and the food wasn't much better. we were kept waiting for over an hour, we were not even offered drinks for at least half an hour. nearly an hour into our endurance my wife was told they didn't have her selection of pasta.
Very poor service, my advise is that you steer clear of this place as ther are far better eating houses in Lardos - i.e. Roulas, valentinos, Bojangles.

“Fantastic pasta, Pizza, home made ice cream and fresh fish”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2013

This is perfectly situated on the square on the terrace. Lots of Italian customers so looked hopeful for pizza and pasta. Very good service and the food was very tasty with high quality ingredients. Try the fish and pasta dishes especially.
Desserts were also superb and beer was very reasonable.
All in all a surprisingly good restaurant.

“Best pasta outside Italy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2013

We fancied a change from the greek menus and decided to try this Italian restaurant.
It wasn't as busy as some of the others but the staff very attentive and the food delicious! Do try it :)

“So Much More Than Pizza”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2013

The food at Il Gelso is excellent. We visited several times over the course of two weeks and tried some of their specials such as Marinated Belly Pork With a dressed Rocket Salad(Fantastic with a hint of fennel through the pork) Grilled Octopus with a delicious salad and an Italian Mussel dish with White wine herbs and garlic served with hot delicious bread. The Pizza is some of the best around and if you like fresh flavours try the starter/ side dish Bruschetta(fresh chopped tomato with garlic and olive oil) beautiful. The pasta dishes are certainly delicious try the IL Gelso with mushroom, ham and cream. The pasta is home made and we went for papperdelle to pick up the delicious sauce. The atmosphere is very friendly and the service efficient and attentive. Staff are very helpful and Paoula the owner is particularly welcoming and attentive. An experience not to be rushed. We will head straight there when we return to Rhodes for sure.

“Absolutely first class pizza”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 November 2012

Sadly we only found Il Gelso near the end of our holiday so we could not return but really wanted to. We both had pizza which had the thinnest lightest crispiest base and the most delicious toppings. The restaurant is pleasantly informal and rustic both inside and out with the great atmosphere that you would expect of a properly buzzy Greek village. The Italian lady owner is delightfully chatty and attentive and justifiably proud of her fabulous restaurant. If you are in Rhodes during the winter its worth noting that Il Gelso is open in the colder months too. Our only regret is that we didn't have time to return . Very highly recommended.
