Arriving at the hotel at 2am, we were greeted by George who took us to our room and wished us both a goodnight. Later, we found him working at 8am, what a trooper! But this dedication to guests rings true throughout this hotel. I don’t honestly think that from my numerous trips to Greece I have stayed in a cleaner, friendlier hotel as this one.
The rooms are clean and well presented. Typical 2/3 star showers await you and the décor is as you would expect. One light bulb not working, but still, as budget accommodation goes this was far from the usual standard I have often come to expect.
Breakfast was for me a delve into the world of the Cosmos Maris Mega Burgers and a lager. Not a healthy option, but the large selection of cooked on site meals at the poolside bar/restaurant meant you would never be spoilt for choice. Down the road there are other restaurants we popped in to from time to time, but the fast food easiness made eating here just as sinfully cosy. The food isn’t all just a vast selection of junk, but some nice meals can be had. But I have to say, they all have that 2am Kebab house feel to them, even if they didn’t taste as such. But still, service was always fantastic and given the amount of fuss made when a coffee we ordered didn’t arrive, they obviously like to keep that level as high as possible.
George and his family are wonderful people, very friendly and will do anything they can. George is/was a doctor and treated a little boy who required stitches after doing what little boys do and not paying attention. The bar at night is a great place to hang about and with not much else happening in the resort, it can be your only option depending what time of the year you go. But, nightly ‘event’s are held and everyone enjoys themselves, even if they should keep away from the karaoke.
To go even further about the helpfulness of the family, when roaming around a nearby village we bumped into George. As we were stood waiting for a taxi to show up he got on his mobile and 5 minutes later his parents turned up to take us back to the hotel. Just don’t expect George to turn up every time!
The hotel is not too large and as such can be a great location to make new friends. It is in a ‘remote’ part of Rhodes and if you don’t drive you can feel isolated. There are of course other bars, shops and a beach (should you decide to walk to it) but as long as you don’t mind a walk you can explore; if only to a small extent. The hillside by the hotel is a good place to go hunting for lizards, snakes and anything else you enjoy in the natural world. Birdwatching also proved a good event, well, for naturalists like me it did!
I would recommend this hotel if you want a pleasant, quiet break in a clean and well managed hotel. You really can’t fault the hotel and the staff! But, I would not go back simply due to the location and the fact I could not drive when we went.
The pool is nice too!
