“Wonderful Week”
Reviewed 22 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

A lovely place to stay. Tucked out of the way down a remote track. House was very clean, well appointed and furnished. Bed (memory foam mattress) was very comfy.
You have to walk down the track a teeny way to get the sea view, but its worth it.
Ireni was lovely, very helpful.

Nearest beach to the house (lovely for swimming and picnicking - had both shade and sun all day) was empty every day. It hard to find form the main road so everyone just drives straight past. Its a long walk down. Take a car down if you are happy doing 3-point turn in tight space at bottom!

Please feed the little black and white cat that hangs about when you stay... (she is very thin!) Her name is Anatonas.

There is very good wifi now - (since last review)

Highly recommend the taverna on Leverchio beach.

“Wonderfully peaceful”

This property is a restored and converted olive press in an isolated olive grove a few hundred metres down a rough track from the road from Fortuna to Loggos. The village of Fortuna is actually only about 10 minutes' walk up a footpath from the property. The furthest corners of this little island are about 15 minutes' drive in all directions. Gaios is about 10 minutes by car and Lakka 12 minutes (roads are winding, hilly and slow).

The property is well-equipped and comfortable. There is no swimming pool and the nearest beach is a 20 minute walk further down the track (which inexplicably is surfaced from below the property). You could drive down, though parking at the bottom is limited. The Paxos beaches are beautiful with lovely clear water but rather pebbly. Except for one morning, when it rained, we ate all our meals outside under the shade of the pergola. The owner lives in Athens but was there to meet us as we were the first guests of the season. She gave us a warm welcome and left her phone number for us to contact her if there were any problems. The cleaner who comes in once every other day doesn't speak English.

Our main criticism of the property is that the lighting inside is poor for reading by in the evenings. The main light is dim and the walls are bare stone so do not reflect light.

Internet is provided by means of a USB dongle, which works fine for MS-DOS but I am not sure it would install easily on a Mac and doesn't work, of course, on an iPad. Speed is dependent on the availability of a 3G signal which was fine most days. It didn't work over the weekend, which may be due to heavy use of the network or a failure of the local 3G network.

Two words of advice for anyone new to Paxos:

i) bring beach shoes as almost all the beaches are pebbled (which adds to the beautiful clarity of the water)
ii) if you like walking there is a great network of paths and Ian Bleasdale's 'The Bleasdale Walking map and Guide of Paxos and Guide' is recommended. By it from the bookshop in Gaios or direct from him: www.iankbleasdale.co.uk.

Anyone needing a real getaway that is truly peaceful will find this hideout amidst olive groves to be a real treasure. The house and environs are superlative. The kitchen is so well appointed that you can make any style of coffee from French press to caffetiera to American drip. The beauty of the place and thought that has gone into it is impressive! Stone and wooden beams lend an air of rustic style. Outside you will find a barbecue and a wood burning oven. You can season your meal with the perfume of the flowers and herbs that adorn the place and if you're lucky, you may be able to pick peppers, eggplant and tomatoes form the backyard garden. A glass of Greek wine, some olives and bread and you're on Mt. Olympus. A car is recommended to shuttle between the various villages, though Platonos(Fontana) has a wonderful taverna, a small market and a bakery. All the proprietors are friendly. There is housekeeping three times a week by a local woman who has no English or Italian but manages to communicate cheerfully. The house is located about a half a mile up from a small rocky beach that is nearly private. The trek is down the mountain road and can be a little challenging for the walker, particularly uphill, but it's possible to drive down and back. I can't wait to return!!
