We stayed for 11 days in Luz and enjoyed to stay in Hotel Luz Bay. Rooms are big and clean, we got fresh towels every day and were close to the pool area. The sun loungers where a bit old, but ok. Breakfast was average, but I think everybody found something to eat.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, the garden was wonderful. The beach was in a walkable distance and the whole area offers a lot of things to see. Wonderful landscapes, nice beaches, good restaurants.

We enjoyed this holiday very much and would choose the hotel again.

Room Tip: Be careful to get a room in a good distance to the ventilators of the air condition. These are quite...

We´ve stayed for three nights at the Hotel Luz Bay, and it was worth it.
The rooms are reasonably sized, and the pools areas are great. The apartment also has a balcony to the gardens with a table and chairs.
The room and the bathroom are clean, and also has a coffee machine but it was a little pricey, 10€ per day it was a little bit too much.
The receptionist was friendly and it helped us getting around. The breakfast was not that great, just a couple of breads, biscuit, some coffee and juice, and cheese and ham. Not that impressive.
The beach it is in a walkable distance, and if you want to sight see the sea or up for a trail run, you have a great mountain just a few meters away from the hotel.
The hotel its quiet at night, even on August, so if you´re looking for a party, this is the wrong place. We were not, so it was perfect.
Would stay here again.

I booked a last minute trip with my teenage son and I for his birthday, for four days. I read beforehand and was told there was surfing in the local area (mid winter) which my son would of have been happy to do - not the hotels fault but when we arrived too pricey and not in the local area to do every day. Welcomed by one very helpful, friendly receptionist. The hotel would of benefited from some entertainment or the heated indoor pool running, outdoor one being too cold. However, the use of facilities were additional costs which I just hadn't planned on.

This being the middle of February, weather was not too bad, expecting the worse were lucky that it only rained for half a day but what would we have done had it done that every day?

The suite was lovely, cannot complain about the cleanliness, they were spacious and offered an outside balcony overlooking the super well kept gardens; the view from the door to see the hills were beautiful. I am glad we booked only the breakfast as we found it was a little disappointing although the staff setting up and helping were very friendly and kind. The cooked breakfast was cold, we tried to get up earlier to make sure - but alas still not 'hot'. Like some of the other reviews have said the juices were not fresh and the coffee was vile, did enjoy the hot chocolate though.

As noted, a little pricey with extra charges, including the safe and then the use of coffee machine in your room and on top of that the wifi, which I think they should at least offer for free considering there is little else available to entertain - and we merely went off to find the internet café and purchased our meals elsewhere.

The resort is quiet (at this time of year, but I believe summer it will a different story). It is a pleasant area and some friendly people, surprisingly many English! I would of liked to have travelled more, we did use the bus to Lagos (pronounced Lagosh). If you get off at the Marina you can find many boat trips but cheaper if you head for the fort at the end. And then there are the cobble streets for shopping, which was very enjoyable for an afternoon of browsing.

The beach is nearby, easy to walk to and I was wrapped up for some hours sitting by the beach enjoying the sun and a fella making 'sand artwork'.

Next time I go I will find a way to walk up that hill - as it looks stunning from below. I think I would like to try an apartment next time - cook my own meals as it was pricey eating out I think the minimum spent was 12 euros - so be prepared!

Room Tip: overlooking the pool but might be noisy in the summer

We had booked the a superior room with breakfasts for 2 nights and 3 days. Our room had two slightly big single beds pushed together, an ensuite with all of your regular stuff and also a little sofa and sitting area, there was also a kitchen with some utilities next door. THe balcony overlooked the rest of the hotel, it was rather spacious and looked FAB at night!

We only actually got to have breakfast once as we arrived at the hotel in the afternoon on our first day and our last day we left at around 6am (breakfast starts at 8/8:30). On the day we did have it, it was pretty good. In addition to all of the pastries, cereal, ham, fruit and bread out the; waiter had asked us if we wanted anything else and we ended up getting a full English to our request.

The hotel was very clean, our towels and room was made on both days. There was a lovely filipina receptionist who was very helpful. It is quite a mature holiday, definitely not your ideal party scene but that's not what we wanted anyway. We had booked the jacuzzi for an hour at a really cheap rate of 5 euros per hour, per person but she even gave it to us half price. It was a shame that it wasn't working but she booked us in for a turkish bath/sauna the next day which was great. She advised us to go to this lovely little restaurant called Onda Luz, (literally up the road from the hotel) it was really lovely! Excellent service!

We visited the zoo, the beach and the marina while we were there. Everything is relatively close by and the weather was an average 14 degrees. Was really nice to get away for a bit. Was definitely worth the money, got a bargain in fact!

The buses are cheap but do come quite sporadically, its worth asking for a timetable at the reception. If you do go to the zoo make sure you drive/take a taxi! it took us 2 hours by bus, we waited another two hours at the bus stop on the way back before we just decided to take a taxi. Obviously as we took two hours to get there in the first place we expected it to take perhaps an hour and a half to get back. WRONG took us about 15 minutes and the fare was just about 15 euros.

Just returned from this hotel, Very average but was booked on the provisio that the indoor swimming pool was open, Alas no its shut for the winter leaving 3 outdoor pools available, Being not very fond of ice baths I declined. 10 euros to use the coffee making machine per day in the room, but as the bar was closed had to look elsewhere for refreshments. All in all this hotel may be ok in the summer, but for winter holidays pick another resort.

We stayed for a week at the Hotel Luz Bay hotel at the beginning of September. Overall, we have no real complaints about the hotel itself - the rooms are pretty simple, but clean, spacious, and airey with a seating area outside. Ours was on the ground floor, but those higher up would have views overlooking the pool on one side, and the hills in the other. We booked the holiday on a B&B basis with the breakfasts providing all the options from fresh fruit to hot meal preferences. There are two main pools at the hotel, both a decent size and never overcrowded.

The only reason why I think 4 star is over-rated is that they charge you an extortionate €10 to procure the coffee from the machine located in the room. They also charge you for using Wifi - either a day rate of €5, or a weekly rate of €15 which I think should be part of the package for a four star hotel. The rooms as mentioned are on the basic size but comfortable.

The resort itself obviously has rather sombre connections, but it is quiet, pleasant, with a couple of good restaurants along the front. We had the use of a car for the week that allowed us to explore a bit. Without this, I think we would have got a little bored within a few days. There are plenty of beautiful beaches further up the coast. If you stay here, do take a walk up the hill to admire the view over the village. it really is quite pleasant.

All in all, a pleasant stay at a 3 Star hotel! I have marked the scores down because of this.
