“What an amazing place!”
Reviewed 6 June 2010

Luz mar villas is one of a kind! The place is really well taken care of, the rooms, the garden, the pool, the food, the staff, everything works just great together.
The rooms are really nice, with the view to the pool/garden, clean, the TV is great with all kind of programs, the fridge with complimentary water, great!
The breakfast is magnificent, with a big choice of warm and cold buffet, enough vegetables and fruits, different types of bread and jams, really good!
What to say about the dinner buffet? We were really pleasantly surpriised - first of all, I liked the big stonecarved table, what an idea! The buffet was marvelous, good choice of salads, there was meat and fish, the dessert wow, everything was just amazing.
Also, the service: everybody from the staff was really showing great devotion and willingness to provide you with anything you needed and assure you will have a pleasant stay.
Oh, the bar downstairs is also nice - I really liked all the pictures and the seatings different one from another. Cozy and cute for a late night drink.
Nothing to say but: go and try it, you will not regret it! 200% reccomended!

We stayed here in Spring two years ago, and returned this October because it had been a pleasant experience and a location with lots that we enjoy.
Hotel staff were accommodating about our late arrival and always pleasant and helpful. Good range of food at buffet breakfasts, but simpler evening menus than two years ago, while price was maintained.
However, our room, in one of the outbuildings which house many guests, had an all-pervading, pungent smell of mould. When asked, hotel staff offered us an alternative room from day 2, which was slightly better. The smell of cleaning materials almost counteracted the mouldiness. The problem may stem from the lack of any extraction fan from each room's inner bathroom. Rooms are regularly cleaned.
My husband found the bed too hard for comfort and I would have liked a little extra comfort, like a bedside rug, rather than ceramic tiled floor to step out onto.

The location is a great base if you prefer to avoid 'touristerama'.
We suggest hiring a car to explore the many unspoilt wild bays and beaches, west from Luz - some down rather rough tracks, or reached on foot for the last half mile. Well worth seeing if you enjoy dramatic, colourful rock strata, spring wild flowers, quiet sandy bays, or surfing waves(on the west coast up to Aljezur). Alternatively, there is a choice of local golf or go inland to the (also unspoilt) mountains. We noted that October sunshine was best near the coast, while clouds and rain often hung over the mountains inland.

  • Liked — small friendly hotel in several buildings around pretty garden and pool

Just returned today from 8 days at the Luzmar Villas, what can i say other than this hotel is fantastic.

Booked via a website called www.beachcollection.co.uk as they were the most competitive around.

Hotel (and Portugal itself) is totally spotless, rooms cleaned every single day, gardens and scenery are second to none.
Pool was cold but fine once your in!
Car hire i would recommend as its about a 15 minute walk into Luz centre however me and my partner made the walk there and back every day for our evening meals so its not essential but its great for nipping to the supermarket for the paper & soft drinks...

Breakfast at the hotel was good with a choice of cereal, cold meats, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, beans, boiled eggs, yoghurts, fruit etc

we never ate at the Hotel in the evening as we found simply the best restaurant there - its called "A Concha" - try the salmon meditteranean, lamb chops, steak - all fantastic - we ate there 4 times!!

all in all a wonderful break and will be going back again next year for sure!

Hotel based around main building and separate modern villas with spacious, tastefully furnished rooms. Large pool set in manicured gardens. Spotlessly clean throughout. Pleasant staff. Excellent buffet breakfast - eat as much as you like. We stayed in a room in a villa. Didn't eat here, the choice seemed too limited for the €15 per person being asked. Don't stay here unless you enjoy walking or you have a car. 20min walk to the beach and centre of Luz.

This is a 30 roomed hotel which was just right for us because it was very quiet. The hotel is made up of small separate blocks of a few rooms all overlooking the swimming pool and gardens. We stayed half board and thoroughly enjoyed the food. There was not an amazing selection - one main fish and one or two meat dishes for dinner, but they were all tasty and accompanied by sufficient vegetables, potatoes, rice and pasta. They made omelettes for my husband, who is vegetarian, but there was not much else on offer for him at dinner. Breakfast was a typical buffet. The room consisted of a bathroom, sleeping area with comfortable bed, lounge area with TV (including BBC1) and small balcony. The swimming pool was not heated, but bearable as the weather was very good. They only had 22 sun loungers but they were never full - we guess most people went off exploring in their hire cars. There were lots of beautiful beaches within a few minutes drive and beautiful countryside too. We would go back, especially at this time of year - no drunks to disturb your sleep and no children to disturb your days!

Rooms bright spacious and airy. Also very clean.
The gardens were immaculate and the pool area well kept. Availability of sunbeds not a problem.

Breakfast - not a massive choice but adequate. We did not eat any other meals in hotel.

It is essential to have a car @ this location but the walk into Luz took about 20 mins & there is a reasonable footpath for all but the last 300 metres. It is uphill on the way back so moderate fitness is required. My wife & I did the walk every night (7 times) with no ill effects.

Would definately return.

As soon as we arrived we knew we had found the perfect place,a smiling receptionist who explained every thing clearly also it seems the booking your evening meal is not required now ,just turn up.we had arrived early no problem we were in our rooms by 1.45pm and by the pool by 2.45pm, the rooms were large and i though more than adequate and the balcony very large but i noticed the lower balconies were smaller ,out of the 10 nights we stayed there we had 4 evening meals there and at £10 for what was a 4 coure meal and no one batted an eye when my wife decided she did not like the fish the waitress removed the plate and she tried the chicken no problem they said ,same with dessert i have a sweet tooth so i tried 2 no problem ,and good wine at the table for £6 .as for the card system i though was fine as long as you leave it in the room after every evening .The 2 people who own the luzmar wre allways there or about either clearing tables or repairing a water pipe in front of our balcony both with a smile and welcome coment also i think one of there children on about 13 years old is allways there smiling as he fills the brekfast bar or cleans the tables a real family hotel..the gardens and pool area are kept spotless and clean and makes it not just a good place for a restfull holiday but a perfect place coupled with the positioning in the quietest area and the unspoilt area of the algarve,i will return as some actor said ..

  • Liked — friendly staff ,from room cleaners to owners ,also the tinted windows which made you more comfortable when in your room
  • Disliked — the parrot on the wall in my room kept watching me ,honest
