“amazing red tower, amazing lefkas”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

Just home from a two week stay at the Red Tower and would just like to say we had the most fabulous time there. Amazing views over the sea to the little islands, meganissi and the mainland. First visit to Lefkada,(have visited the other 3 Big ionian islands) and must say its an amazing beautiful part of Greece inhabited by what can only be described as fabulous locals.
Back to the Red Tower, we were really dubious about this place before we arrived having read all the negative reviews on trip advisor but I can honestly say that all those negative reviewers are very wrong. Yes there are things that need to be improved here but I think that the owners are on the case and over time they will get done. Some of the rooms are already being done out. We had room 19 when we arrived amazing view, the room was large with a bed settee, double bed,TV,tea and coffe making facilities and a fridge. The bathroom was fabulous only recently done out with a lovely bath and shower. Constant hot water the only problem was that the A/C wasnt working but they moved us no problems.
Red tower has the potential to become a real boutiqe style hotel, the place is real higgeldy, piggeldy place with lots of steps. It isnt suited to people with mobility problems. The staff are all hard working, especially Sophia she's always on the go and doesnt stop till the end of her shift, Chris the new boy will be a real assett to that place. Aliki is lovely.
Would like to say a big thank you to the catering staff as all meals were of excellent quality, typically greek but there were other options if your not up for eating greek cuisine, but I always say when on holiday eat like the natives. If you want english food stay at home or go to benidorm.
The hotel is perched on a high rock with a steep hill either side to get to the road. Nidri is abou 3km's away to walk or an 8 euro taxi ride. We hired a care for 10 days but don't do it through the rep who will send you to green motion in the town as they are really expensive. Green motion wanted 450 euro for 12 days and that was with thomson discount we ended up going to avis down the road and had a car for 10days for 210 euro.
Boat hire is cheap and you can hire a motorboat on the front for 40 euro all day but you pay for the fuel you use after. We had fabulous day out at sea. Stopped in Vathi port on Megannisi for a drink and then later in the day went to Dimitris in Geni for food. Just moored up on the jetty outside his place. Amazing.
Lefkada is beautiful and would highly recommend it to anyone, really didnt want to leave the Red Tower on Sunday could have stayed on for another 2 weeks easily.
Please dont listen to all the negative reviews they are just not true. This place is a little gem just remember if you have mobility problems you will struggle to get around and in my opinion its not suited to toddlers or very small children. Older kids are fine but I think they would be bored. This is for adults who want to get away from it all.

Room Tip: Room 19 had a fabulous bathroom and good views i just hope they fixed the air con.

Just home from our 2nd two week stay at this great hotel. Have nothing negative to say love the location peace and quiet if needed yet only 3km to nidri €8.in a cab. The staff are very hard working nothing is a problem special mention to manos (restaurant/bar manager) maria in reception and all the bar staff (who also work hard in the restaurant) a quick thanks to Chris only started the day we arrived but am sure he will be an asset with his fun attitude. This year our son and his girlfriend came along and were delighted with the whole greek experience the views took their breath away they had room 32 and couldnt get over the view we had a tower suite again with far reaching beautiful views. Been out today and bought greek yogurt and fruit for breakfast tomorrow but its a very poor substitute for our lovely breakfasts overlooking stunning scenery!.oh well here's to 2015.

First things first! This is a beautiful hotel, stunning views and does everything it says on the tin. You will not be disappointed. We spent a lot of time researching the hotel on trip advisor and everything tht people found fault with appears to have been sorted out.
The first thing that grabs you is the location. This is worth every penny. You go up a steep hill to the front of the hotel and it looks very quaint with its Red Tower reception, you get allocated a room, we were lucky to get a tower room, and then you step out into the hotel proper and that view just smacks you in the face. Awesome. You will have to discover it for yourself and it is worth every penny. With the change in light as the water and weather changes in the bay there is a different view every ten minutes.
The rooms are a little spare. Clean as a whistle but just a bit faded around the edges. The mattress on the bed was like sleeping on a kerb stone and was not nearly big enough for two. I have a bad back and for a couple of days it was purgatory as I got used to it but the truth is I never really did get used to it. Rooms and towels are cleaned and changed every other day at least and usually daily.
The pool is a thing of beauty! We had a little bit of trouble for a couple of days as a pump broke down and the pool adopted a greenish tinge but they spent 1000 Euro and got it right. Within a couple of days it was sparkling clean. The water was gin clear and warmed up considerably over the fortnight.
The staff cannot do enough for you. Sophia is the chief dogsbody, barmaid, waitress and gofer around the hotel and is brilliant. The bar/restaurant manager Manos is a character and is very droll and can be a bit sarcastic at times. But hey, we can live with that. All inclusive 10.30 to 22.30 and pay bar after that. We usually went onto the cocktail specials and they have Mojito on tap!!!
The food. Well, it is never going to win them a Michelin star but there is plenty of it and it is varied and well cooked. There is always a pasta option and a vegetarian option but carnivores are the main focus of attention and will not be disappointed. We only had calamari once which was a bit disappointing but it helps to be 10 minutes in a taxi from Nidri.
Speaking of which taxis can work out expensive, we paid 10 Euro there and back into Nidri. There are some cracking restaurants along the harbour front and it has got to be one of the most picturesque harbours in those parts and it has competition. I will review the restaurants we ate at under a separate heading.
Down sides? Yes a few. Those damn mattresses! The owner tends to use the hotel as a personal fiefdom and has private wedding parties from time to time which go on late and can be very, very noisy. I made a complaint which was resolved by being given free A/C which was nice of them. You have to pay for bottled water but tap water is safe and drinkable. What is this obsession with Ibiza Drum and Bass being played a full volume? I just don't get it. Fab location, fab hotel, just shut up and revel in the peace and quiet. Oh! If you go in early June I suggest a wrap or jumper of some sort as it can get a bit cold in the evenings.
All in all an excellent couple of weeks. Not an hotel for kids or teenagers, nothing to do and you will spend all day with them whining at you that they 'are bored!'
Trips are good. Hotel has a Greek Night and dancing on Wednesdays and is good fun and you will be dragged into the spirit of it.
Car hire is reasonable and hiring a boat is cheap and they are in first class condition and an excellent day out (or two or three) and a brilliant way to get to see Lefkada which is stunning. Superb beaches.
Would we go back? Yes, we will definitely return to Lefkada, it is beautiful. Would we go back to the Red Tower? Maybe not, the hotel is awesome but the beds would do my back in again and I would not relish that.
Oh, and the smell that others complained about in previous posts? Well, don't put paper down the loo and you wont get it!

Room Tip: Go for a Tower or rooms 35 and 36

Just got back Sunday and missing it already,
The views are absolutely stunning, the food is tasty and cooked to perfection. The staff are friendly and polite.
I loved the hotel the only niggle I have is not enough sun shades, but there are some trees to shelter under.
Don't bother with Thompsons Greek night. Chicken and chips!!! Very disappointed.
Hire a boat in nidri for a day.we had a fantastic day darting round the islands, stopping here and there for a dip,all for around 70 Euros per day. Bargain!
Will definitely be going back hopefully in September.

Just returned from a weeks holiday at this hotel - it was magical. The views from our room were stunning, the food was great, the hotel staff couldn't do enough for you and all in all a really enjoyable experience. If you want truly breath taking views along with wonderful weather in a quiet location this is the holiday destination for you. I will definitely be returning at the earliest opportunity. The hotel was spotless and the room was cleaned regularly. My first time in Greece but this wont be my last!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in one of the Towers or in the central rooms overlooking the bay

Stayed for first two weeks of the season. Great choice of Greek/English food, although a bit too much pork sometimes! Staff very helpful, Rep also very good. Maids came in every day to clean room and a wonderful view over the sea from our balcony. Loved walking down to the town on the back road from the hotel and then stopping on the beach before Nidri where we would buy a drink, swim in the sea and use the bar's sun beds. Shuttle bus also very good. Trip over to Meganissi only 1.80 euro on the normal ferry - went there twice and had a great meal in the taverna at the harbour. Also booked an all day trip (down at the port in Nidri) which included stopping at Kefalonia and Ithaka. Fantastic value for 30 euros which included lunch. Walked to waterfall in Nidri which was wonderful and a taverna up there also where we had a drink, well worth the 3 km walk, although you can drive there. Booked Thomson trip to Parga, unfortunately amphitheatre which was also part of the trip was closed that day. Also, part of the trip was spending a long time getting to somewhere in the middle of nowhere for a scheduled stop for drink/lunch. Turned out to be a gigantic (completely empty that day) taverna near a river (with mythical story connections). Not worth the effort of getting to this place, no-one wanted to spend time there, expecially on a rather grey, rainy day - would much rather have stopped for longer in Parga, which was marvellous.

Local bus good for trips round the island - we didn't book a car in the end which we usually do. Plenty of sun beds each day round the pool at the hotel and very quiet at night. Completely fantastic views from rooms and pool terrace. Marvellous staff in the dining room and bar. Really loved it.

Hotel - Excellent
Room - Excellent
Food - Excellent
Views - Excellent
Staff - Excellent.
Nidri - Poor

Enjoyed a very nice weeks holiday here starting the 18th May 2014. It felt very exclusive, being that there was only 23 people in the entire hotel. So easy to get food, drink and at best there might have been 6 people at the pool. I'm guessing peak season will kick on in June but we did enjoy knowing everyone at the hotel. Free bus into Nidri was asurprise and also Free WIFI but don't rely on it, it only worked 4 days out of 7.

Nidri town is only saved by the harbour which is lined with bars and resturants. Town has no paths so you are fighting the road with mopeds, cars, locals and tourists; not a place you can spend the day at, Nidri Waterfalls are worth a visit, with a nice bar half way so you can pop in for water on way up and a beer on way down.

So overall the all inclusive Red Tower is excellent but local nidri is the let down.

Room Tip: Room service was odd. Yes they visited daily but maybe just to empty bin. Bed were not made daily a...
