“Very fun, beautiful, recently renovated. Wonderful staff.”
Reviewed 24 June 2009

So the hotel is no longer "dated" as many of the previous posts say. The renovation is very modern and lovely. The pictures on their website are completely accurate, and you can tell the rooms are new and very clean. We stayed in the Panorama Suite for the first leg of our honeymoon, we were the first people to stay in it after the renovation. The ONLY negative thing I would say about the Akrotiri is that the suite does not have any sort of panoramic view and is thus kind of unfairly advertised. The balcony only faces one direction, but it is spacious and relaxing and has a beautiful view. The beach is down many stairs which were no problem for us but if you are elderly or infirm would pose a problem. The hotel restaurant serves a passable breakfast but skip dinner in favor of any of the other local restaurants which are more fun anyway. The bar at night is fun, there are lots of drunk retired Brits pounding whiskey with the owner who was a sweetheart himself. We kind of expected that staying in the fanciest room in the hotel we would get some kind of "welcome package" like champagne or a fruit basket, but there was none. Also they don't give you shampoo, only shower gel which is just soap and makes your hair weird. The bathroom is huge and has an extremely relaxing tub and a nice shower. There are very few English-language channels on the TV but we were so pleasantly tired after sunbathing, renting mopeds, eating lots of food, etc. that we didn't really mind. Other than a few of the luxury items we would expect in the Panorama Suite missing, the staff was very very friendly and welcoming. It kind of reminded me of Dirty Dancing, when they go to that resort in the Poconos or wherever, and the same girls who serve you yogurt in the morning are the ones leading the Greek dancing night and the manager of the hotel sends over whiskey and pistachios at night which is kind of weird but touching nonetheless. Recommended!

We were getting married in corfu town and stayed at the Akrotiri beach hotel because of the spetactular views-breath taking. Although the hotel then was a bit dated I believe it has been updated since. The staff we so helpful and friendly, there was entertainment most nights - which really was entertaining. Evening meals at the hotel weren't great but the was plenty of taverna close by - one of which is right outside the hotel was very good. would definatley stay here again. really enjoyed our stay.

The Akrotiri Beach Hotel is one of the two largest in this part of Corfu, and offers all the ammenities one would expect of such an upscale hostelry. It is situated on a bluff with the sea surrounding it. Far below on one side is a sandy beach; far below on the other, a rocky point from which to swim and dive. The only possible problem with these is that they require navigating many, many steps. However there is an easily accessible large swimming pool on a terrace overlooking the sea.
The rooms and bathrooms are a bit tired and in need of updating, however this was already beginning to happen when we were there. The hotel closed for a major overhaul on the day we left, at the end of October. The next day, by chance, we met the archetect in charge of the renovations. He told us that all the rooms will all be renovated in the coming months, and that in 2010 all the public spaces (which we thought were just fine) would be redone.
The only downside to this is that the prices will probably be adjusted accordingly. Our room and breakfast cost only 99 euros.

  • Liked — Its situation on the cliffs with a view forever
  • Disliked — the tired bathrooms--that are now undergoing renovation

I should like to say that my husband and myself had a very pleasant stay at the Akrotiri Beach. Yes, the hotel is a little dated and could do with a lick of paint in some areas, but it was clean and plenty of space, a large lounge and bar area for evening relaxing. The rooms were a good size with fridge for personal use and excellent views. There was entertainment on 4 nights a week, in the form of musicians or singers and one night the staff put on a show of Greek dancing.

The staff work very hard and were very helpful and friendly (especially Katarina and Vanessa in the restaurant). There has been a lot of criticism about the food, but we found the evening meal to be perfectly acceptable, with the first two courses set (salad, soup, roast veg, pasta etc) and a choice for the third and fourth courses.

Other places to eat , for lunch I recommend the Tango Bar, just 2 minutes back up the road towards Corfu. They do an excellent pizza and a lovely summer salad and the view from the bar is superb.

  • Liked — Friendliness of staff and room views
  • Disliked — Lack of air conditioning in the dining room

corfu is a beautiful island, with great landscapes, views.
here are a lot of small villages, with very narrow streets passing thorough them(beatiful).
paleokastritsa is the best city(village)is quiet and relaxing, form here u cand borrow almost everything, from boats to bikes, cars...very resonable prices.

the hotel did not impressed me, but just for staying it's ok..rooms clean, air conditioning, the room is cleaned every day, and from the balcony the views are abolutely incredible......every room has seaside view.

for the money that i paid, it's worty to go to this hotel, especially in this village......
great vacation, will come back

First of all, when planning to go in Corfu, be prepared to spend a lot of money in transports as public transportation is very rare (only a few buses between Corfu town and some localities). You need to rent a car or to take (expensive) taxis.

The Akrotiri Beach Hotel is definitiely not a 4 star. The location is magnificent and all rooms offer an amazing sea view. But the facilities (swimming-pool, bath-rooms, hall) are outdated and weary. The interior design is terribly 70’s and would need a big refresh.
If you’re looking for quiet, do not accept the rooms above the bar, even on the 6th floor (the bar is on the 4th) as you would endure frenzied blare every night until 12 or 12.30 p.m. At our third sleepless night, we asked for another room, and were moved to the other side at the 3rd floor, near the swimming pool and the rocky beach: this part of the hotel was actually a lot quieter.
Breakfast is good and varied. On other travellers’ advice, we didn’t go half board. We found a very good value family-run Greek taverna (Spiros) 10 minutes’ walk away on the (quite dangerous for pedestrians) road to Corfu Town. Very fresh food (esp. wonderful fish on the spit), friendly service, big array of typical Greek courses. We used to go back there every night as many regular customers did (a large part of them were Greek, which is always a good sign.

We emailed and requested a good sea view as this is the most important part we feel of a good holiday, and we were not disappointed. Room 501 has a stunning view of the bay. Could sit for hours. However the room was like an oven when we arrived and even the air con struggled. We had read the reviews about the food so knew what to expect. Breakfast was ok, but with the view from the dinning room who needs food... We snacked by the pool which was pretty good and although we didnt like the food at night we did dine in a couple of times and the staff did their best to change the menu to what we wanted Staff were very very pleasant and always tried to do their best for us. Lots of smiles and a credit to the owner of the hotel
