“Excellent hotel, location and staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

Loved every moment at the hotel. We had a top floor room with private balcony (room 206) which we loved. The view was stunning. The staff make the hotel the special place that it is. Everyone is lovely and the bakery is amazing! I am a faddy eater and the restaurant staff made sure I was well fed and put up with all my whims! The food was delicious and the portions generous - also its the first place I have eaten in the med where the hot food is hot instead of luke warm! The view from our room was stunning, went to sleep listening to the sound of the sea. Can not recommend it highly enough. Loved the library of stuff you can borrow too! Thank you Apollon for making our holiday perfect!

Room Tip: If you want a private balcony and the best views, ask for the top floor in the main building.

My husband and I spent a relaxing 10 day break at the Apollon on our first trip to Paleokastritsa.
Location-wise the setting is excellent, directly opposite the stunning Aghios Spriridon beach which is not only the ONLY sandy beach in Paleo, but it also has the most beautiful, buoyant emerald water we have ever swam in within Europe. There are several caves in and around the beach itself although the beach does become very busy from around 10am onwards due to incoming day trippers. And this is why the location is so superb because if you are lucky enough to grab a room on the second floor you will ave access to the large shared terrace from which you not only have a superb view but also the room to lie in the sunshine relatively undisturbed. However if you are not a sun worshiper like myself I'd recommend a room on the top floor which has lovely private balconies with the best view. to enjoy any time of day of night.
The annexe building just around the corner also has superb sea views-not only of the water on Aghios Spridion, but also the two smaller beaches nearby so technically you have 3 sea views! The annexe is also much quieter as it set back a little from the main road.
Rooms in the main building are basic but scrupulously clean. The maids came in every day during or break and the entire floor was mopped and swept and a new bathmat provided. The bathroom floor does get very wet due to the traditional shower arrangements (no curtain) so do be very vigilant.
The only quibble I have about the room is that the fridge was not clean on our arrival. Thankfully I bring disinfectant wipes with me on each holiday so I could give it a little wipe down before placing our drinks in there.

As the hotel is right at the farthest end of the resort, it is lovely and peaceful throughout the evenings when the tourists and day trippers have left the beach and the only sound is the waves crashing in to lull you to sleep. Utter bliss. As there is no resort centre as such-more a smattering of shops, bars and restaurants over a 4km stretch of road the best way to head in the evenings is left, out of the hotel and up the road. There is a supermarket called Kathy about 2 mins walk uphill which is overpriced, however all the supermarkets in Paleo are and we found that there wasn't much difference in price between them so head here for the convenience if nothing else. I have written reviews on several restaurants, bars and snack bars spots throughout the resort separately so please feel free to take a look.

I'd recommend a trip up the hill to the monastery. The walk up takes about 10-15 minutes and you get a great view of the hotel and bay half way up. Its free, however you can make a donation to the monks on entry/exit. Please remember to cover shoulders and ankles, otherwise you will be asked to cover them in a loaned sarong on entry. There's some beautiful views of the rocky coastline from the outposts too.

The hotel offers a Half Board option, which we booked in advance for the bargainous price of approx £7pp via a hotel consolidator. However it is available in resort both as a guest at a reduced rate (10 euros I believe) or 12 euros to the general public. Three courses of offered with a choice of 3 options on each (vegetarian and traditional option on each). Portions are much smaller than the standard size portions on the menu, however it's all home made, fresh and it does fill a hole and the standard is very good. The menu appears to be on a 7 day rotation too. Initially we enjoyed the food, however we soon became a little bored so instead swapped our evening meal for lunch and went out for a light bite in the evening followed by a walk and a few drinks instead on alternate evenings.
Breakfast was very good compared to some of our previous experiences in Greece! There's abundant white and wholemeal toast, canned fruit, eggs, cold meats and cheese, salad, yogurt, porridge, cake, juice, tea/coffee and condiments on offer plus the occasional rice pudding and absolutely everything apart from the bread is home made.

The resort is hilly, so not suitable for less mobile or those with children who tire easily.

Our request for a room with access to the private terrace was granted and the 'two Karens' were very friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. We shall certainly return again in the future.

Room Tip: Best views from the top floor.

This was our second visit to the Apollon Hotel and having opted to stay bed and breakfast only on both occasions to give us chance to try other resturants in the area. However when we did eat in the restaurant we were not disappointed. we tried the tourist menu, three choices of starter, mains and dessert,we had lunch (Greek mezze platter) other lunch options are equally delicious that was delicious so we tried it several more times just to be sure and we also ate from the main menu and were very satisfied. All of the food served by the Apollon was well cooked well presented and the portions were more than generous. The staff are friendly polite and it is very obvious that they enjoy their work. This I think comes from the fact that they have two fantastic employers in Karen and Spiros.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are clean and tidy fitted out to 3 star Greek standards If you like to be a bit qui...

This Hotel is a fabulously friendly Hotel with great staff who make you feel so welcome. We have stayed here about 15 times and find that most of the other visitors, like us, return year after year if not a few times in the same year. You begin to recognize people year after year and its like meeting old friends. Food in Restaurant is excellent value for money, really generous portions and a great choice and George makes the best coffee in Corfu. View from the Hotel is amazing!

An excellent location by the main beach.
All rooms in the main building are sea facing
Be sure not to be allocated a room in the Annex, which has much lower standards.
The resort can get busty during the day but is excellent in the evening

Dear Guest, thank you very much for posting a review on Tripadvisor. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your holiday and I agree that we are very lucky in having a superb location opposite the main beach. Regarding your room tip where you advise guests not to book Apollon Annexe as 'it is of a lower standard than the main building'. You are correct that our 20 Room Annexe is one category lower than the main Apollon Building but it is because it is points rated as a seperate accommodation by the National Tourist Organisation and because it is just a 20 bedroom Annexe with no bar/restaurant or public spaces of its own, it cannot obtain a higher rating no matter how good the rooms are. Guests use all the facilities of the main building just 50 metres away. Internally, all our bedrooms in both buildings are identically furnished with exactly the same room facilities - there is no difference at all in the standards of the room, I wish I could have shown you the rooms in the Annexe during your stay here. Apollon Annexe is sold both by the Tour Operators and direct by us at a lower price than the main building, which is ideal for guests looking for a more economical option.

We were staying further up Paleo nearer the Triada beach but ventured down twice to the beach quite literally outside this restaurant and Ampetaki Beach(much quieter beach and really nice, worth a visit, only 5mins up a little road pretty much alongside this place), both times came here for lunch, the second time the staff were dealing admirably with a coach party so we had to wait a while but nothing upsetting. Excellent and efficient staff and good food, really nice setting. Had chicken souvlaki, greek meze the first visit and lemon chicken, mozarelle and tomato salad and an enormous garlic bread with cheese (which was good for me as I hate ordering garlic bread and getting two small pices of baguette carved on a slant, this was the entire baguette - perfect!)the second time (between two of us, not just me) all very nice and good value.

We loved the hotel and location. It did get busy during day but we hired a car and were mostly out in day. It was very tranquil at night and lovely hearing the goats with tinkling bells go by first thing in the morning. Breakfast was really nice and included a hot egg dish every day. We had dinner in hotel twice. We enjoyed it and it was good value for money but we preferred Gran Aladino and Limani tavernas (both a few minutes walk away). The cocktails were good value. There were several power cuts while we were there so worth taking a torch. You also need to take an electric mosquito killer.

Room Tip: The room (53 on first floor) was plenty big enough and the balcony although small, was perfectly ad...
