“nice hotel shame about the food”
Reviewed 10 September 2012

we are just about to leave costa blu today, the hotel is very well kept but lacking in character, there only appears to be a limited staff, the greeks are obviously going through a sticky patch money wise.
To be fair the four staff that we did meet were all helful, but the general manager was in limited supply, which for a supposedly five star complexe was not good. I only saw him once during the week and that was at breakfast when he gort himself an orange juice, he didnt speak.
if you decide to come here come on a board only basis as the food is awful. we along with most other guests ate out the whole holiday. the food was not only cold most of the time but there was no choice and for a buffett style catering that was not good. On a positive note Benitses is only a ten minute walk and there are loads of places to eat at resoanalbe prices.

The little beach infront of the hotel is very nice(pebbles) and water of the ionian sea very warm.
The hotel has a hatch by the pol where they serve drinks and food, and that the only place you can go for a drink as the bar in the hotel was never open due ot lack of staff.

Woud I go back, yes but only for the accomodation defintely not the food.

Room Tip: get a room on the second tier as the views are fab

Good value half-board accommodation, in the well situated resort of benitses.

The good:
- Room was clean, spacious and well equipped making the time we spent their comfortable - daily laundry changes and visits from the cleaner were a nice touch. Some of the furnishings are a little tired but the beds themselves were decent.

- the staff were a lovely bunch and all very accommodating during our stay.. It's clear they have a lot to look after with the place In full swing but we found them to be friendly and helpful whenever we needed to call in them which is all you can ask.

- Not being fussy eaters, the restaurant provided well for us with wholesome AngloGreek fayre. He variety on offer could be improved but over the course of our week we got a good selection to stock up on! One word of warning on desserts... If you like watermelon then you'll be in heaven, if you have a sweeter tooth then take some choc with you or grab a crepe in town.

- we hired a scooter for five days from Benitses for €60... If you don't mind the being overtaken a bit and take it easy then this is a great way to make the most of this beautiful island. He great thing about Benitez is being close to Corfu town and on the main road you can get to most places and back comfortably in a day... If you do explore then give paleokastritsa, marathias and agios gordios a look, all stunning beaches in their own right!

- the beach bar is situated just across the road from the apartments and is a beautiful secluded spot with everything of need for a spot of r&r.

The bad:
- the pool isnt the cleanest but given the range of beautiful beaches this didn't bother us. Another option is to head for the Argo pool bar which is less than 10 minutes walk into Benitses and offers a lovely little pool and a warm welcome thanks to It's owner, Spiros and his family.

- exterior decor is a bit shabby in places as he apartments are going through some renovation but don't be deterred by first impressions, the interior more than compensates... Plus you'll have a stunning view to focus on instead!

This was a very last minute booking, based on our poor weather in the UK, and worn out from watching the Olympics, so Greece seemed the right choice, and we chose Corfu, a beautiful island we had visited way back, and the Costa Blu Hotel was our choice, based onTrip advisor reviews.
This hotel has some of the best appartment/suites we have stayed in.All have amazing sea views, from large balconies, spacious clean rooms/ bathrooms, with fridge, hairdryers, and inclusive air con. There is a room safe should you require.
We went Half Board, not by choice, but found breakfast to have a good selection, and evening meals adequate. The pool is great, the beach can be accessed either by crossing the road or through the tunnel. Ask at reception.
We met some nutters from Essex and Surrey ( you know who you are ) which made for a great holiday!!
The local town of Benitses is a 15 minute safe and lit walk (at night), or 28 minute swim! if you want a night out or just to get some essentials.
The General Manager, George, and his Team, offer a very professional service, for which I thank them.
Would we go again.......oh yes.

Room Tip: A higher floor ( there are only 3 )gives you a marginally better view, they are all great!

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Benitses and thought it only right to allay any fears that anyone should have if they get offered this wonderful hotel as a last resort. Do not have any hesitation unless you want to party 24/7 as this hotel or Benitses would not be for you. The first thing we were in awe of were the panoramic views of Albania and Mainland Greece across the Ionian Sea it is everything you could wish for when you wake to this type of scenery every morning. The pool area is relatively small but it served it's purpose and was never overcrowded. There is also a small pebble beach belonging to the hotel which again was pleasantly quiet. Our suite was very spacious with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and large balcony. It was cleaned every day which was a novelty for us and we had fresh towels and bedding when required. Another first was free air-conditioning and a free safe. Our only negative point is the food however, not a complete let down as it was all completely edible but having two fussy children doesn't help. Breakfast and dinner are both buffet style and it was only the dinner we think could be improved a little. Benitses itself is a quaint village but with plenty of places to eat and drink at reasonable prices again it has a very relaxed atmosphere which was perfect for us. Overall a fab relaxing family holiday.

We stayed at the costa blu at the beginning of August, After booking a last minute deal and reading some of the reviews I was a little apprehensive, but there was no need at all. most of the negative reviews are from 2010 so obviously things have improved since then.
we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, we asked for a kettle and cups for the room which they kindly lent us free of charge along with pool towels.
We were very impressed with our suite which was very spacious and clean with a large balcony with a wonderful view, air con and a fridge, all rooms have a sea view. There are an awful lot of steps, as the hotel is in an elevated position, which wasn't a problem for us but maybe for older or younger children especially in 40 degrees heat.
The pool was large enough and when it got busier the second week, they put out extra sunbeds , so there always seemed plenty. The children's pool was empty and away from the main pool area .
We hired a car from a very friendly Greek/NewZealand guy from Archilles car rentals, the first one you come across as you walk into Benites, which I must add is a smaller place than I thought, it had its hey day in the 80's .
We were half board and although the food wasnt exceptional or to 5 star standard , it was adequate and tasty enough. Our daughter is a vegetarian and we asked for more veggie dishes, which they kindly did which was much appreciated.Food and drink around the pool was reasonably priced although not particularly Greek.
We weren't bothered at all by the hotel being on a flight path, we loved watching the planes and they didn't disturb us at all a night and I'm a light sleeper, in fact we drove to Mouse Island and sat with others on the concrete jetty watching the planes fly above us and land on the runway behind us very exciting! Corfu town is definitely worth a visit, better to go by bus as very difficult to park, you can purchase bus tickets from the supermarkets for € 1.50, bus goes from the main road and is air conditioned.
Overall avert peaceful pleasant stay.

We stayed at the Costa Blu 30th July - 6th August 2012.
First impressions were great - beautiful views, very quiet and large, clean apartment suite. We were happy that the bed was a double and not 2 singles pushed together as in some accommodation, and the balcony was very big with a table, parasol and 4 chairs. Throughout, the apartment was air-conditioned (inclusive of price) with fans also on the balcony, 2 good-size bathrooms, one with a bathtub, and a safe (also price inclusive). The only negative would be that the shower heads are placed very low, so the Mr had to hold it while I washed my hair! Towels were changed every day, with the bed linen changed every couple of days, though there was no 'do not disturb sign' and the maids were grumpy (on the verge of rude) if asked to come back, even if the door was answered half-naked! The reception staff were very helpful and we were shown in-person to our apartment on arrival. Although there is a fridge in the accommodation, there wasn't a kettle, so we asked at reception and they speedily brought us one with cups. Costa Blu is minimally staffed so there were regular waits at the pool bar, until the installation of a bell the day before we left. Food (snack lunch food), drinks (both alcoholic and non) and ice cream (no lollies) were available at the pool bar, though it seemed only used by guests during the day. However, this meant it was lovely to lay on the pool loungers at night and watch the moon rise and the bats swoop over the pool. There is no entertainment at the accommodation and they don't seem to use the main inside bar or the disco, so most people seemed to venture into nearby Benitses or stay on their balconies.
We were on half-board which was buffet-style both for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was typical Continental, with hot food available along with bread, cereal, pastries, fruit and Greek yoghurt, and squash and tea/coffee. Dinner was rather hit-and-miss, and despite emailing previously to state vegetarianism, we had to ask most nights for a fish alternative, as there was a lot of meat served. Some nights the food was lovely and we went back for seconds and sometimes thirds, but other nights it wasn't so good, so we walked the 1km or so to Benitses town, where there were lots of tavernas serving good food. In particular we enjoyed Nikos Tavern which is towards the other side of Benitses and has huge bottles of Ouzo and Kumkwat liqueur (local Corfu drink) as complimentary drinks after dinner. Another night we were given the most delicious chocolate cake as a dessert free of charge. We also visited the Kaizer Bridge restaurant, which is a pier-style restaurant stretching out over the Ionian Sea, though the food was unfortunately somewhat lower-quality than the stunning view.
As the town is very quiet, we didn't find any evening entertainment, which was fine for us as we went specifically for a quiet break, though may not be suitable for families. Instead we went to several bars for cocktails, including the Rainbow Cafe and particularly Connections bar further along the strip, which has internet and a pool table. Also in the town is a small tourist office through which we booked a day trip to the nearby islands of Paxos and Antipaxos, which was only 25euros and we highly recommend.
We also definitely recommend to find out the time of sunrise to watch it rise over the mainland Greece mountains, as it's a beautiful sight and all apartments face out over the sea.
Overall, we had a highly enjoyable, clean, quiet and relaxing break at Costa Blu and, though not a 5* hotel, we would visit again and recommend to friends.

Costa Blu is a good place to go and relax. The pool is a good size and there are quite a lot of loungers. There is a bar outside as well. We had a huge suite there wasn't many amenities in the room but there is a safe and air-con which was all we needed really, We had a large balcony over looking the sea and as we were on the highest level we had a great view. Only downside on the balcony is that there was an ants nest in the corner! Room was very clean and the hard orthopedic beds were the best- the pillows however are not very comfortable to say the least Wasn't aware they had room service so can't comment on that or the spa!. To be honest there isn't a great deal to do in Benitses- but i think it's good for couples. Definitely ignore the bad comments- it is a great place to go if you are just looking to relax. Not quite sure where they get the 5 stars from though, it is a 3 star, but the place is just lovely
