This hotel probably was a 5 star hotel in it's day, but certainly not now! There were stains on the bedsheets, towels, and mould covering the shower curtains. The shower base leaked badly and as a result the water pooled into the bedroom where it damaged some of our belongings. The furniture had large damp patches where water had seeped up from the base and the room smelled of damp - this was clearly something that had gone on for a long time.

The air conditioning pulled in air from the shared patio outside, where smokers next door lit up, causing our room to be filled with second-hand smoke! The decor was in a poor state, with cracked and broken tiles with sharp edges sticking out, flaking paint and battered furiture. We were given twin beds (despite asking for a double).

The food was not good, far below the standard of any restaurant we ate at whilst staying in Corfu. The cooked food was so bland, and much of it was served day-after-day until it was gone. There was a sponge cake that nobody seemed to eat, and by the end of our holdiay was going stale, so they soaked it in something and put it in a trifle... eugh.. The salad was OK, so we ate an awful lot of salad, but things like Moussaka, (which you would expect to be tasty in Greece) were overcooked and tasteless. I could have done a better job myself, and I'm not a chef. The drinks (even water) had to be paid for, despite it being half-board (I always thought that meant you got drinks included with evening meal) and the drinks at the pool were expensive.

The pool itself was OK, no complaints there. The majority of the staff were friendly, except for the manager, who swore at me when I went to report a problem. There was also one female on the desk when we arrived who didn't crack a smile, but I'll put that down to grouchy-ness as it was in the middle of the night...

I burst out laughing when we passed the gym for the first time. It was a few sofas scattered around with a barbell and a few dumbells and an exercise bike (all pre 90's by the look of it). It wasn't what I would call a gym. I've got some weights and a bike at home, it doesn't mean I have a gym...

There was no sauna, massages, or evening entertainment. Not that I would have used any of these, given the quality of the other equipment & services. The beach didn't seem to have any evidence of sun beds or anything like that, it wasn't very sandy and it was quite small and always seemed to be full of people so we didn't really bother with it.

The girls in the dinner hall were very friendly. The gardens were nice, and it was only a 10 minute walk to Benitses. The dining hall was also reasonably decorated and had decent furniture, as did the reception. We also enjoyed sitting out on the patio once we'd moved rooms and there was nobody styaing next door. They were really the only assets the hotel had. I expect this is so they could have a good first impression...

I overheard 2 other families talking at dinner and they were making similar remarks as I have above, so it's not us being fussy. We're not fussy to be honest, we've stayed in other "5 stars" in Greece that weren't great, but this one took the biscuit.
Maybe the reason they get to put a 5-star label on the hotel is because of the facilities they have. They had silly things like electric controls on the beds so you could change your posture (these were old fashioned though, and the remote control was quite grimy from years of button pressing), and supposedly an "a la Carte" menu, which we never saw - maybe you had to ask for it and book the day before, because we only ever saw people eating food from the buffet carts. It was all a bit of a mystery, it was mentioned on the advertisement through the rep, but once we arrived there was no evidence of it, not even in the information booklet in the room explaining about the dinner service...

All in all the worst holiday we've been on, and the most money we've ever paid for a 5 star hotel. Not good!

Hi all, This place should be called the Hotel California. Its not a bad place really but some really weird stuff happens here. For instance a bar man who says openly he wants to kill the other staff and he's not joking, a group of VIP guests for feel up women on an ongoing basis, and staff hours which would clearly go against any employment tribunal. And some guests that have such high pitched voices that your ears will rings for hours after listening to a 5 minute conversation, apart from all that it was fine once you spent most of your time out of there. Anyways,,,there were some very nice people there and, if you know what seagulls are like and sardine festivals with cheap beer and are from UK and Italy drop me a line you know who you are,,,lolololol, a few more hints for you, sculpture of your daughter, tennis balls,People from UK and Italy and dogs roaming in bars.

Just returned from Costa Blu Hotel on 28th August after a week's break with my daughter.

I liked the hotel - it's not traditional in style i.e. more like a US motel style layout with individual rooms laid out horizontally rather than vertically but the net result is each room overlooks the sea and the hotel is full of colour and bright flowers in the gardens

The hotel is advertised as a 5*, but it's no more than a good 3-4* hotel of average quality. I've no idea what gives them a 5* rating other than the friendly staff and the views across the sea to mainland Greece.

The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable with daily service changing towels etc. Each room has Air Con and TV but little by way of added extras you would expect in a 5* hotel. The pool is good and for the week we were there had sufficient seating and space for all.

The biggest issues for me (and I should have checked this in advance) were that:

1) The town of Benitses is south of Corfu airport and IS ON the flight path to the airport - you cannot actually see passengers on the planes, but the planes are low enough to make out the name of the airline and of course loud enough to disturb, particularly at night when they are taking off (even in the small hours) - all landing planes pass directly in front of this hotel.
2) Behind Benitses is a large hill (maybe mountain) and being on the east side of the island when the sun is going down you get shadow by 18:30 which is quite early compared to sunset.
3) The hotel has some odd rules which you can overcome when you speak to the management, but you cannot buy a glass of wine in the restaurant and cannot buy a bottle of wine by the pool.
4) There is no entertainment in the evenings at the hotel although Greek dancing is scheduled once per week but didn't actually take place the week we were there
5) The gym is a running machine and 2 bikes and some weights - I did not see the massage and sauna advertised and suspect it was closed as so few people staying in hotel
6) The buffet food is OK but little choice and there is no a la carte restaurant that we saw although it is advertised

If you stay do so in the knowledge it's not going to be 5* but the views from the hotel are tremendous and the hotel staff are great.

And if you are in Benitses make sure that you go on the sea trip to Paxos and Anti-Paxos - it takes all day but well worth the €25 per adult charge,

Stayed here for a week. Clean rooms and friendly staff throughout the hotel, and good location near Benitses, which is quite a quiet town, but with some good restaurants to eat in if you go Greek. The pool is nice. Rooms are simple and basic, but shower is bit of a pain as hand held. We did expect to have tea / coffee making facilities in the room if a "5 star" hotel, but there was nothing.
The main weakness of the hotel is the food, which was pretty tasteless and despite plenty of choice it would have been nicer if they did a couple of things well, rather than 5 or 6 poorly. Never eaten so much salad!!!!
The only other criticism is when it states a gym it was only a running machine, and 2 bikes.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here, except the food, but it is more of a mid range hotel.

we have just returned from spending a week in corfu at the costa blu hotel. booked the holiday on last minute.com literally the day before we left.We were offered the costa blu on a half board basis and how lucky we were! beautiful views from the restaurant every mealtime, the staff were all very friendly and the restaurant staff were particularly at tentative.
Room was clean with free air con. Had a wonderful week. would not hesitate to recommend to friends and family.
