We were so pleased with the villa when we stayed for a week in September. The outdoor space is brilliant especially for our one year old to crawl about in. There is plenty of space and all the amenities and utensils you could need. The location in fontane bianche is out of the way so it is quiet but a 5 min drive to a small supermarket (20min walk) and 20 mins to both Noto and Oritigia. Perfect location. The only issue we had was the fuse box tripped three times, Livio was quick to reply and suggest the torrential rain was the cause the first 2 times. However it did happen a third time later in the week and it hadn't rained. We suggested this needed to be looked at.
Overall a great place to stay and I would definitely book it again.
Staying at the Villa Eva is like being lent the home of a Sicilian Uncle you didn't know you had : its full of personal touches and stocked with all manner of odds and ends that you wouldn't find in most villa rentals (multiple types of crockery and cutlery etc.)
The Villa itself is in a quiet coastal residential area (mainly second homes it seemed), not much within walking distance, but with a car a good base for visits to Syracuse, Noto, Palazzolo Acride as well as local beaches a few minutes away.
The Villa was an hours drive south from Catania Airport, with gated drive, with three bedrooms on two levels. The upstairs has its own mini-kitchen area and some nice places to sit outside. We arrived at the start of the season, and found that bedding was a little musty (we aired outside).
Other quirks were the lack of a kitchen sink plug (we improvised), Wifi is from a 4G Cube and somewhat unreliable, and the DVD player wasn't connected with no batteries in the remote (I managed to get it working by borrowing from the TV control).
The Villa would benefit from a "user guide", here are some of our own tips :
- Rubbish should be bagged and taken down to the communal bins at the end of the road (a few minutes walk), We did this every other day.
- Local super markets are small, with limited opening hours. We tended to buy from the nearest Lidl and Familia (towards Syracuse), although this was a 20 minute drive away.
- April is Sicily's low season. Its pleasantly warm for Northern Europeans when Sunny (which was most of the time), but in the evening the Villa was chilly and I needed to start the wood pellet burner which took a little trial and error.
- The Villa has TV - but apart from MTV, all were in Italian. Next time, I'll bring a laptop and a HDMI cable and a lot of downloaded iplayer programmes to watch !
However, in general, a lovely place to stay, and we'd recommend.
