I have not stayed at Chez Charles hotel but I have visited it's marvelous restaurant several times while travelling aroung Corsica on motocycle with my bf. He was the one to discover this place and we chose the routes of travel just to have another fantastic lunch at this restaurant.
I loved the fact that they pay a lot of attention to table appointments. Each cup, each glass or plate are very refined and unusual.
Food of that quality I have never tried in my life! You can eat so much and you never feel heavy as all the products are so fresh and cooked in a very special way.
It's not cheap but if you think it's overpriced for that service and quality, you should visit Moscow restaurants to understand what the benchmark is.

Room ok, clean and tidy, hotel appearance very fine. But the reality shock does come in the restaurant. As high the prices, as small the food. And if you look at the locals' tables, them having the same food but twice the portion (gambas rather than the tourist shrimps), you get a little bit annoyed. Not really the experience you want to have in your holiday, and for your precious money.

Room Tip: Choose a room here, but eat outside.

The location is a big drawback for what is otherwise a very nice hotel which was recently renovated and has a stylishly designed restaurant and well appointed rooms.

The sea view rooms offer a sweeping view of the bay. However, the little balconies are useless due to the constant traffic noise that continues well into the night as the hotel sits right next to the road connectiing Bastia and Calvi. Fortunately, the a/c works well and you can keep doors and windows shut at all times.

Likewise, the breakfast experience is marred by the noise as breakfast is served on the outdoor terrace which is really just 1 m away from the road. Any passing truck or heavy motorbike is a conversation stopper – and many of those are passing on this busy road.

Room Tip: Book landside rooms facing the hill, they are probably less noisy

We just spent a week-end at 'Chez Charles' and would warmly recommend the hotel. The location is very convenient for this part of Corsica, the view is spectacular (would definitely go for rooms with a view, ideally on the highest floor - we had room 301 which I reckon is the best in the hotel given it's on the 3rd floor and it's a corner room so the balcony has views both of the village and the bay), very good beds and comfortable rooms. The food & breakfast is great as well.

The owner and the staff were extremely friendly as well, trying to accommodate us as good as possible, despite a number of requests from our part - early check-in, late check-out, breakfast served in the room outside normal breakfast hours...

The one minus would be that the hotel is on the road, so one should be aware of this - hence go for the higher floors. We didn't have any issue sleeping whatsoever though.

Would definitely go back!

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor to get best view and further from the raod, 301 the best

From arrival to departure, this was first class, very efficient, helpful and smiley staff. The room was very spacious and immaculate. We enjoyed the pool which has a snack bar adjoining where we had a very tasty light lunch. It is not cheap, but you get great service and it's more gourmet club sandwich in style. Although the hotel is on the main Calvi to Ile de Rousse main road, the noise of the cars did not disturb us during our afternoon by the pool (not least the view of the coast is nice) and in the room the double glazing was very effective so there was no traffic sound or noise from the outdoor hotel bar/ restaurant below. We did not eat in the main hotel restaurant - menu looked excellent, but again pricey. We chose to go to Calvi for the evening for a wander round and meal on our last night. Great hotel, would stay again for longer than the one night.

We booked the superior room, which was lovely and modern and exceptionally clean. There is a separate walk-in robe and we had plenty of room to put our ridiculously large amounts of luggage! The bathroom was fantastic and also very spacious. We had a nice balcony but with a view to the side road behind the hotel - there was some mountain in the background but not exactly spectacular. The pool is great and heated perfectly, and the bar by the pool was not at all expensive. Service was aslo very good. Location is good only if you have a car as it's a 10 minute drive to the larger town of Calvi. Lumio itself is very small but lovely and quaint. The best part about this hotel was the restaurant downstairs, which you absolutely must treat yourself to (warning, it is pricey)... the food was utterly sublime! All in all would recommend.
