“Stunning setting and a perfect retreat”
Reviewed 1 week ago for a stay in July 2018

We stayed for 11 nights as a family of four with our two teenagers. Suzy and Chris were terrific hosts - they laid on a lovely welcome pack and homemade cookies for our arrival which was a thoughtful touch. They left us to do our own thing but were always on hand for any help that we needed or local info. They even helped out by booking us onto some white water rafting one day that we wanted to do (highly recommend doing this!), and giving us tips on places to eat out at or visit, and gave me suggestions of where I could go running in the cooler mornings.
The property itself is one of the best self-catering we have stayed in (we rent somewhere every summer). Super clean and well furnished with everything we could need. We really enjoyed having the big terrace to sit out on, either having a nice long Spanish-style lunch or sharing a bottle of wine later in the evening, looking out over the olive trees and watching the stars appear in the sky.
The real highlight for all of us (and the kids in particular) was the superb swimming pool. The walk down the pathway through Suzy's impressive garden took us to a large and spotlessly maintained swimming pool which Chris took great care in tending to. The photos don't do it justice - it is simply stunning, and there is a covered loggia to lie under when the sun gets too much.
After a busy three days in Seville, this extended break at La Atalaya was everything we had hoped for after a hectic year for all of us. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

“Couldn’t be better!”
Reviewed 3 weeks ago for a stay in July 2018

When you have worked hard all year and you just want to spend your holiday in peace and tranquillity then this is the perfect place!!
The villa is found amongst the olive groves with nothing to disturb you, but still close enough to town to get what you need. The pool was set in well kept gardens, with views that are superb, similar views from the terrace in the evening where you can sit and wait for the sun to go down with a glass of wine.
Chris and Suzy are great hosts, making sure you are always well looked after and providing some lovely treats along the way!
A fantastic holiday and would book to go back without hesitation...we also miss Dolly the dog!!

“Prefect stop in the nature of Andalucia”
Reviewed 11 May 2018 for a stay in April 2018

Great hosts and amazing garden (that grows without any water!) in the heart of Andalucia! The private area within the house is confortable and spacy. We loved alll the little details such as the home made cookies that were incredible. We will definitly come back! We recommend a 100!

“Rural Andalusia - Tranquility and Authenticity”
Reviewed 15 October 2015 for a stay in September 2015

My wife and I spent a fabulous holiday in Portugal and Spain in September of 2015. It was our first trip to Portugal and our third trip to Spain.
After three intense weeks of traveling looking for some rural authenticity and a few days of rest we followed a friend’s suggestion and booked three days at Cortijo La Atalaya.
On arrival we were immediately overtaken by the surroundings. La Atalaya is built on top of a small hill in the middle of olive groves with mountains as a backdrop.
The accommodation was a spacious and comfortable self-contained, two-storey unit adjacent to the main house where the hosts live. We did not do any cooking but the unit is well equipped for those who wish to do so.
We started our days with a fabulous breakfast on the terrace that included freshly squeezed orange juice and local, typical Andalusian fare.
After a morning hike we cooled off at the swimming pool and headed out for a late lunch at the surrounding charming villages.
After our siesta we would relax on the patio enjoying the vistas and the tranquility with a good book before our evening bar hopping in the nearby town of Priego for tapas and a few drinks.
Our hosts, Suzy and Chris, offered us invaluable advice and guidance. Originally from Britain, they have been living in the area for many years and are very knowledgeable about the region.
Chris is especially knowledgeable about the Priego drinking spots and we were glad he invited us out for a drink…or two...or three...
We enjoyed our stay immensely - it was a new experience - and next time we travel to Spain we’ ll do our best to return to La Atalaya.

“Beautiful & Peaceful Cortijo La Atalaya”
Reviewed 3 October 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We stayed during August which was really beautiful, the pool was a welcome respite to the wonderful Spanish weather. We really had the opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle and truly relax.
Chris and Suzy are really lovely people, very welcoming and fabulous hosts. We enjoyed several delicious meals as Suzy is an amazing chef. Ensuring that the day will always be a good one with a hearty / healthy breakfast to see you through until lunchtime!
El Tarajal is a great location, only 10 minutes away from Priego De Cordoba, which is a lovely town, full of great Spanish restaurants and bars. You can walk off lunch by taking a stroll around the town and meander through the picturesque, floral narrow streets of the old town.
We enjoyed a sunset beer or two, with Chris & Suzy, its a wonderful place to stargaze and have great chats. You can choose to enjoy time on your own or spend time with the hosts, either way, this place will leave you wanting to head back as a soon as possible.

“Relaxing Rural Spain”
Reviewed 14 September 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Chris and Suzy are exceptionally welcoming hosts. From the welcome on arrival to the sad departure waves, we felt we were at home. They left us to our own devices yet were there with advice and local knowledge whenever we needed it. They are a very entertaining couple with many amusing stories from their many years living here.
This is a lovely part of Spain - a million miles from the typical 'British' resorts. Very little English is spoken in the local villages which means it's real. Our hosts are excellent cooks but, as the summary says, the area (especially in Priego itself) is teaming with wonderful restaurants and bars all serving delicious food that is locally sourced.
For an authentic, countryside, Spanish getaway - look no further. We'll be back.
