First time of visiting since a large refurbishment started. A very pleasant surprise. The main dining area is in a Conservatory type room with outstanding views over the sea. Bright and airy with good spacing between the tables. Lunchtime visit. Menu not large but some interesting additions to the average pub menu. Service friendly and attentive without being rushed Food took some time so obviously cooked to order which cannot be said of a lot of places. Suited us anyway as we were dining with some friends that we hadn't seen for a while. The only downside was that although there were two hand pumps on the Bar, neither were operational at the time. Cost rather more than a normal pub but the food was worth it.

Thank you for reviewing us and for mentioning the cask ale as I'm delighted to say that choosing two or three new ones is on our priority list this week! I can think of worse jobs...

We have a new Head chef and we're really pleased that you enjoyed the food. As you said, everything is always cooked fresh to order and we have exciting plans for the kitchen and new menus due out shortly.

Please come again and we hope you continue to enjoy the improvements.

Best wishes, Cathy Kelly

We planned to stay for 4 nights during the half term break and that quickly turned into 6! Hotel staff are very friendly and always happy to help. Our family room was spacious and clean. The hotel itself is dated in areas but improvements are being made all the time. The food served at breakfast and lunch was very good with a good range of choice. Bar area was comfortable and clean too. An enjoyable break!

Thank you for your review. I've spent today collecting information for our visitor info packs and absolutely agree that they are needed in the rooms! Since taking over in September, we have had a long " to do" list and this has always been one of them. It's good to have a nudge though and we're on to it.

Please come again-we're delighted that you enjoyed your stay.

Best wishes, Cathy Kelly

I stayed with my Mum & Dad and teenage son. The location is fab...and once the mist cleared we had some great views down onto the beach and along the cliffs. The hotel itself has a lovely patio area outside and ample parking. The rooms were very clean, well furnished and comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and we had a lovely meal in the restaurant in the evening. The breakfast next morning was very good. If I had to offer some feedback it would be to have some information packs in the rooms and to have breakfast options printed up and also look into odd plumbing noises - very minor though ...other than that, nothing to complain about! Would love to return and stay again and check out Saltburn more fully....

Thank you for your review. Absolutely agree with all your suggestions and all are on our priority list with the refurbishment...we're making headway and loving the challenge. Our patio area is being extended next week, information packs have been sourced and are due to be ordered and breakfast plans are afoot. As a small family business, things can take a little more time but we're determined to make our hotel a wonderful, relaxing getaway for all our customers.

With a prime location and decent rooms this place could be great, but the management need to invest more on staff. We visited on Bank Holiday and it was obvious that the same staff covered bar, restaurant, reception as best they could, but inevitably they were spread too thin. Some of the staff just got on with it and were cheerful, but others seemed to be going through the motions and doing a job rather than serving guests.

Come on management, get some support for your flagging team.

We stayed here for a couple of nights over bank holiday weekend. The room, although the furthest away from reception (room 24) was large, comfortable, light and airy with a slight view of the sea. The staff were attentive despite being rushed off their feet on the Sunday with the carvery lunch, introduction of the afternoon tea, warm weather and bank holiday. The hotel itself is large enough for privacy but not so huge you get forgotten about. The breakfast was basic (cereals, fruit, yogurt and/or cooked breakfast) but sufficient. Car parking is free but fills up fast on weekends. The walk down to the seafront is long and steep whether by road or the steps. It appears that a lot of refurbishment has been done with new carpets and painting but various bits still need attention such as the toilets which are extremely noisy on filling and ours had an intermittent fault when the cistern did not stop filling as the stopper had not gone down in the tank after flushing; this was easily remedied by lifting off top of tank and pushing flap down to close, but was a little annoying. All in all a good, pleasant stay for a reasonable price.

Thank you for your review and we're glad you had a good bank holiday weekend with us. The introduction of our teas on the Saturday was an exciting start to Teas at The Spa as involved the group from our Cupcake design course in the morning, then a hen party in the afternoon-We're really glad that you weren't left feeling ignored in anyway.

We've got our maintenance person straight onto the cistern fault in Room 24 this morning-thanks for letting us know. On our "to do list" is the introduction of feedback forms in the room, so these little jobs never slip through the net....Thanks for the update.

Best wishes and we hope to see you again soon,

Cathy Kelly

I have stayed here many times and always been made most welcome by the lovely staff. The rooms are comfortable spacious and clean. Plumbing can be a bit noisy. The restaurant serves great food with a view of the sea and Huntcliff. The menu is restaurant quality - not standard pub grub, although you can get fish and chips if that's what you want. The food and wine are reasonably priced and there is a draught beer. There is a great dinner, bed and breakfast deal on at the moment - stunning value for money.
