The food is first class, real traditional roasted meats with all the trimmings it is always a pleasure to visit this lovely pub and restaurant.
Looking forward to going back soon.

The Waterwheel offers a carvery style menu - usually roast beef, turkey and pork or ham with an excellent choice of vegetables and appropriate sauces. Orders are taken at the table for starters and desserts. The pub is located in a small former ironstone mining village on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors - a great location. It is a family owned 'free house' with an interesting choice of real ales.

We made two visits to the Waterwheel in quick succession- about 3 or 4 weeks apart. The first experience was excellent - nice friendly service, generously sized portions and a great atmosphere. The second was on a Monday when the asssistant or trainnee chef was in charge. The meal was dire. The turkey pie appeared to be the leftovers from the Sunday night carvery, shredded and stuffed into a pie. The meat was dry, there were charred brittle edges to some pieces of meat, the vegetables had been over-cooked to a mushy soggy mess. Unfortunately, this was also the first night on duty for the new waitress who obviously had no previous experience of restaurant service. if she has survived, perhaps she has learnt a little by now.

The pub has great atmosphere and usually good food. We shall probably return, but not on a Monday!

Visited many times, to I've the wife a free cooking day.
Food always fresh, traditional & Tasty.
Always willing to help, friendly staff can't fault and good value for money.
Many pubs often churn out cafeteria carvers (Tasteless) however The water wheel's Sunday lunch is as good as my mums.

We came across this pub from Tripadvisor.

We rocked up on a sunday afternoon (after calling to see if the carvery was still on) and luckily it was just on but as they had been so busy there was only pork and turkey left - not a problem for us as we like both!

We were made to feel very welcome by the landlord ( im always a little apprehensive of places in small villages as you can feel like an outsider) but not the case here.

very straight forward, tab opened without a card being required and vouchers for the carvery issued.

The selection on the carvery was fab they even had mushy peas - not what im used to being from the south - but loved it.
We both had a very harty meal and just sat - determined to have a homemade pudding we had to make some room!

The carvery normally runs until 7, but due to how busy the landlord said it had been he had to stop the carvery - I can understand why - it seemed that he wanted to ensure that as a paying customer you could have access to what they normally put on a carvery and not just serve you with half of it!!
A few people turned up for the carvery after us and obviously couldn't have it but they do then serve a normal menu which looked pretty good too - most seemed homemade and made freshly so said there could be a wait.

We did opt to share a pudding which was lovely.
After being very full we headed back - both happy we choose it and would both return if back in the area.
