“Great New Year Celebrations”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2014 via mobile

My Sister-in-law found this little gem on the Internet whilst trawling for New Years Eve ideas and we weren't disappointed. Upon arrival we were met by a very friendly receptionist who was very informative about our stay. We were shown up to our rooms (we opted for the superior upgrade) the rooms are really spacious and have both a double and a single bed! We also had a fabulous see view. The rooms are warm, very clean and quiet and include tea/coffee making facilities. Bathrooms look to have just been refurbished, very clean and modern with new big bath towels. After checking in we decided to have a walk out into the village of Brotton- through the new housing estate you will find the high street which has a few local pubs, we were told that the Queens was nice for food but was closed being New Year's Eve. We had a drink in the Railway pub and headed back to the golf club bar for food. The food in the bar was excellent and very reasonably priced, drinks were not overpriced either for a hotel bar.
The event itself was very well organised, we had a fantastic night playing on the casino and dancing to the live band- The Beer Pigs. The tables were decorated with crackers, streamers, balloons and party poppers etc, these kept us all entertained until the buffet was served. Again; the buffet was well organised, we were served a hot buffet with a choice of chicken curry or chilli, rice, potatoes, breads and dips. There were approx. 125 people there which was a good crowd and there was a nice mix of age groups.
Breakfast was served 8-10, the staff were very attentive offering a choice of cooked breakfasts and also cereal, fruit, yogurt and pastries were on offer at the buffet. There was a choice of fresh juices, tea and coffee.
We finished our stay with a walk through the golf course down to the coast, we followed the footpath along the cliff top to meet the Cleveland Way, there are many different routes you can take, we did a 4km circuit back up to the hotel which was just enough to blow off the cobwebs! Note- good footwear is required for part of the walk, it was quite boggy and muddy in parts after the rain we have just had. All in all a very pleasant stay, we would definitely return here.

Spent NYE at the Hunley Hotel, and it was great fun. Brilliant band and a decent hot buffet – good value for a £50 ticket. Good winelist, reasonably priced with plenty of options.

On the downside, there was no veggie option in the buffet – but when we asked for a veggie alternative, the chef was called forth, and made my MIL a fresh omelette with salad and chips in double quick time.

Breakfast – which we had delivered to our at no extra cost – was top notch.

The room was nice and immaculately clean. Standard (slightly dated) decor, but very spacious – we had 2 x double beds in our room. You can hear between rooms, but nothing unusual... we just had early risers for neighbours, which made me notice!

The most notable thing about Hunley is the staff – from initial reception, to bar staff, to the chef to the room service team, to the lady who checked us out and really cared that we'd had a good stay, every person we encountered was absolutely first rate. They even called afterwards to see if we had a nice time and if there was anything they could improve on.

The management should be proud, especially if this is the kind of service you get on NYE, an evening I'm sure most team members would prefer to be out having fun than working. Well done all!

The reason I've not given an excellent? Decor and ambiance. The staff and food are first rate, but that something special sparkle isn't quite there as far as the (perfectly adequate) facilities are concerned... though I'd very happily visit again, and recommend it highly as a comfortable and really pleasant place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher room for a better view of the sea - and if you've the time, a late check out an...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it to others. Considering the time of year, the golf course was in good condition, the greens were quick and the course generally very nice; it must be beautiful in the summer months! The hotel was fab, food was excellent, rooms the same and the staff are very friendly and accommodating - good luck Amber with your degree. There was four in our group and we all enjoyed. We will definitely visit Hunley H&GC again. Thanks Hunley!!

We have just returned from a one night stay in a superior double room. This was really spacious with 2 double beds and a sea view. Whilst the room was a little dated, it was very clean and had everything you could possibly need. The hotel staff are very friendly and professional. We enjoyed an excellent dinner, which was included in our £49pp dbb room rate. Drinks are not overpriced and there is a good selection. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Fortunate to sit next to the window overlooking the 18th.
Food was very good value basic but tasty.
Only sampled lunch so unable to comment on rooms.
Staff were very polite and keen to assist.
Dining room was very quiet as there was a big party due on the evening.

Stayed here for two nights, 6th - 8th December 2013. Lovely rooms, yes, basic but very clean and spacious. The shower was amazing! The only small moan I have is that the pillows were very hard but this is just my taste. Lovely staff and plenty of free parking. Breakfast is £10 I believe, so didn't bother with this but there are plenty of cafes a short drive away, if you don't fancy paying this. Also, there are bacon rolls etc for a reasonable price. I had steak pie for my evening meal and so good it was that I ate mine and my friends when she couldn't finish it! The views are out of this world - if rugged, unspoilt coastline is your thing, then this is the place for you!). Gorgeous location and really close to Staithes (one of the most beautiful places I have ever been) and Whitby. Highly recommended!

nice clean and tidy roooms. pretty basic but for the price paid felt good value. bar food was good and if you aren't keen on a £10 a head fried breakfast in the restaurant you can have a bacon roll and a coffee for about £4 in the bar.
Golf course was decent and fairly forgiving, even when the wind got up. low handicappers will find it easy, even off the white tees.
staff were always friendly and courteous. would definitely go back.
