stayed Saturday 16th July for one night with my son (13) myself, my boyfriend and our dog (Poppy) had a lovely time and made to feel very welcome by owners and staff. Food was delicious (especially the breakfast) and they really couldn't do enough for us! Thanks to Jim for the Archery lessons which we thoroughly enjoyed!! We loved the friendly sheep and Poppy fell in love with Scruff the dog! Enjoyed a few lovely drinks and evening meal in the bar, a couple of games of pool and some table football. The food and drinks were all very reasonably priced. Room was lovely and cosy, all sparkling clean and amazing views of the lake and the beautiful surrounding countryside. We hope to return again very soon! Thanks to all for a lovely stay.... we will be back.

Stayed one night on our way to Edinburgh. We arrived late but this wasn't a problem. We felt very well looked after. The gentlemen were very accomadating. We woke up to a lovely countryside view. Breakfast was lovely. Our three year old boy had a go at feeding their sheep. Very satisfied, would definately come here again.

Stayed for 2 nights 30th-31st july 2014. The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. My son was allowed to drive a tractor and was able to feed the sheep. We had such a good time we will be visiting again soon.

Stayed for one night in July with 2 kids and they had a great time. Nothing was any trouble for the staff and the kids were given a ride in the tractor and shown how to become archers by Jim. Lovely location and very convenient for visiting Hadrians wall and the nearby Roman fort and museum. Accommodation is comfortable and clean(we had the family room with bunk beds). Good breakfast but the friendliness of the staff and owners make this recommended as well as being good value compared to others in the area.

Stayed here two nights July 2014. Not the most beautiful looking but a really good stop for us. Jim was so welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. He was even collecting guests in his car from the beer festival down the road so they didn't have to drive! The cooked to order food was really good, breakfast was good, location was perfect for exploring the area. To top it off we had a wonderful archery session before we left. This place is a work in progress, and can only get better with a bit more tidying up. It is an ideal location for families, or big groups. There is so much to do including archery, fishing, little cars, pool, foosball. Jim would love you to try everything. If I lived in the UK I would definitely return. Thanks Jim!

Lots of potential for this lodge which - with some TLC - could be turned into a gem in a very beautiful and tranquil surrounding.

Instead it is very basic and our room and bathroom were very dated. The bed was small and not very comfortable. Apart from a stool, no place to sit. No place in the bathroom to put any cosmetics down and not even a glass for brushing teeth! So spartanic that it felt more like a hostel than a hotel.

Lots of junk laying around outside. Unkept garden with weeds growing in flower pots. The bin and ashtray at the entrance were overflowing and nobody emptied them.

Our room never got made up nor did the cups get washed, although we were the only guests. Several large bird droppings on our window when we arrived which never got cleaned.... This is completely incomprehensible for me - surely this gets noted when you get the room ready for your guests???

On the positive side: the cooked breakfast and the home cooked dinners were plentiful and delicious. The young man was friendly and always had a smile.
We loved the sheep in front of our bedroom window and the whole setting.

Otherwise quite disappointing. It could be so much better - what a pity!

We stayed with our teenage son for two nights, having breakfast and dinner each day. We very much enjoyed our stay and definitely intend to return.
The owner and his grandson warmly welcomed us and made us feel very much at home. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The Hotel is in a lovely, peaceful environment and had a very relaxed atmosphere. We really felt we had got away from it all and were very sorry when we had to leave.
We felt we had had excellent value for our money.
