“Great Location”

Housesteads Fort and Museum - Hadrian's Wall

Whilst there is enough on the site to keep Roman buffs interested the best part about this attraction in my opinion is the location which is stunning. This is also one of the most complete sections of the wall and the walking is excellent. The story of Roman occupation is fascinating and in the small shop/museum there is a short film which is worth seeing. Entry free to the site for NT members.

As National Trust members this site was free. We just had to pay £3 for the car park (although you can make a 15 minute ‘pit stop’ for free!) This Roman site is amazing. Well worth visiting.

The Fort site is well preserved and access to the most well preserved part of the wall is located behind the fort.

A great place to visit.
The walk up to the fort is about half a mile.
(It is not an easy walk for elderly or the unsteady )
The fort itself is fascinating and the views from the top spectacular.
Staff are very helpful and knowledgable should you wish to learn more about the history of the area

A wonderful site, with interesting information boards & plenty to see. Wonderful views for miles around, and enough to see to imagine the effect the fort would have had on the local landscape & the the intimidating presence the Wall presented. A great day out, and enough to keep all the kids (12,10 & 8) & the dogs occupied!
