“Lovely stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 May 2014

A super B&B in a great location. Gorgeous setting with roses growing round the front and our own little outdoor space with table & chairs. The room was beautiful and scrupulously clean. We were in the end room and there were only two of us so we didn't use the upstairs: that would be great for older kids (the stairs aren't appropriate for little ones). The heavy stone walls meant we wanted to refresh the air in the rooms quite a lot but that's part and parcel of staying in an old building and all you need to do is open the window.
Breakfast was served in a separate building where there were basic kitchen facilities to cook an evening meal, if you wanted. That room also provided a nice place to sit and read on a rainy evening.

Room Tip: We stayed in the end room. If you have very young kids the upstairs mezzanine isn't really appr...

Our room, should have been called a suite, was luxurious in every respect. There were separate rooms for toilet, shower, and lavatories (2). All was very clean.. Although there was a full house when we were there, our room was silent. We enjoyed the use of our private terrace watching the sun go down. Breakfast included home bread and pastries.
There is no WIFI although internet is available in the lounge. The hotel is a little hard to find without GPS but the driving directions are specific.

This is a most wonderful place to stay in the Loire Valley. We stayed here for 10 days and it was perfect. We had much interaction through email with the hosts, Patrice and Gilles, before we arrived and this was helpful. We had an extremely large room (part of it was a sitting room) with a very comfortable mattress. The room was beautifully decorated and it was spotless. Each room has its own entrance, and ours had a arbor of climbing roses bordering it. I cannot say enough about the hosts, they were very charming and gracious. One of us is a vegetarian and the hosts called a local restaurant to ask them to serve a vegetarian selection--it was a fantastic meal. Patrice bakes organic breads which are served every morning with a continental breakfast, some elements of which change daily. The gite is equipped to make a meal of one's own.
One needs a car to get around the Loire, but this is typical of the area. Knowing some French also helps, but the hosts are comfortable with guests from many countries.
You will definitely not be disappointed in La Chouanniere and the beautiful Loire.

Self catering Gites and Bed & Breakfast with swimming pool near the Chateaux of the Loire Your French hosts, Gilles and Patricia welcome you to their family home in the heart of the Natural Park of Loire-Anjou-Touraine, just a few miles from the river Loire, classified World Heritage by UNESCO. Set in the midst of natural forest and lakes, their charming 16th century house is built entirely of the local white stone 'Tuffeau' and retains many of its original features. This location in Anjou is an ideal place from which to discover the fantastic nature and culture of the area; the forests, the vineyards and of course, the chateaux of the Loire valley Their are four bedrooms available, all of which have been renovated by Gilles an Patricia to a very high standard, using traditional materials of the Anjou region such as white Tuffeau stone, natural hemp, slate and tiles (tomettes) from the village of Les Rairies. Patricia has decorated each room carefully, creating a typical French ambience with painted furniture and antiques. The rooms are all on the ground floor, which has its own entrance and garden lounge. The kitchen is at your disposal if you want to prepare your own meals. ... more   less
