“What a wonderful Christmas away from home !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 December 2012

Sometimes it is not prudent to make a review of a small family owned hotel, when it is so good as Kollers Hotel, as one might not be able to get a reservation, due to an increased popularity.

However, we just spend the Christmas at Kollers Hotel, and it was so faboulous, that i can't deny myself to praise Kollers Hotel in the highest terms.

What makes this Hotel so unique among the many hotels we have stayed at in Austria is how the friendlieness and hospitality of the Koller Family is reflected in every details and member of the staff here. It starts from the delicous breakfast with themes over the wonderful creations of their chef de cuisine to the attentive staff all over the hotel.

As we expatriates, we wanted to find a hotel close to our current location, and found the very postive reviews of Kollers Hotel. First of all, the positive reviews reflects in all perspectives (or better) the reality - it is truly a 4 star superior hotel.

We booked 5 days vacation over Christmas including breakfast and dinner. The main part of the hotel seems to be just renovated in wonderful light colours, and our room (although small) was very tasteful decorated including a very comfortable bed and a balcomy facing the lake.

The absolute highlights of the hotel is:
1. The large breakfast buffet with freshly squeezed Juice, Fresh baked bread and made-to-order egg-dishes. Everyday the breakfast changes the themes(from Italian, Carinthean and Gourmet/champagne Breakfast). The breakfast is simply better than i have experienced at the larger 5 star major hotel chains and more tasteful.
2. Our Dinner was every evening at the level close to a michelin star. I do not know where they found a chef that can present 5 days in a row to prepare such delicous meals with such a variety. At the end of our stay we got the Chefs own Cookbook as a present. Surely we will try to recreate this dishes at home.
3. The Wellness area. Althoug the indooor pool is quite small and the outdoor pool was closed, we enjoyed the sauna and relaxing area at the lake, where there is a heated area of the lake where you can swim even at minus temperature outside.

Overall this is definately a place we will come back again.

Room: We choose a Double-room Type A, with large balcony facing the lake. Great views and ideal for relaxing and enjoying a pre-dinner drinks with friends.
Garden: Plenty of places to relax (sun or shade) and plenty of sun-loungers to go around
Restaurant: We have been to many 4/5 Star hotels in both Austria and Switzerland with various degrees of food quality, but we reckon Hotel Koller was one of the best. If you don't want to spend too much money on drinks, the house wine was perfectly acceptable. If the weather is good, have your dinner outside, they have heaters and blankets if required. Great buffet breakfast with everything you may want.
Pools: The indoor pool was a bit disappointing (a bit dark and not as hot as one would have imagined) but the outdoor one and definitely the heated lake one were fantastic. And if you can brave the slightly colder lake, it's an experience not to be missed.
Extras: Help yourselves to one of two electric boats (free). Borrow the bikes (free) and cycle around the lake. About a couple of hours and if you can't handle it, take one of the boats back or as a shortcut to the other side of the lake.
Have a pre-dinner drink by the lake bar, if it gets too cold, the waiter will bring you a nice woolly blanket.
We didn't have a car as we prefer not to drive on holiday. There is public transport but you would be able to reach more places by car. But plenty of things to do on foot, boat, cycle...
Take Cale-car up Goldeck mountain. Have a walk at the top and then take cable-car back down. We did the mistake of taking the long route down, and our legs were aching for a couple of days (and the walk wasn't worth it).

Conclusion: A great holiday and will certainly go back at some point

Koller's Hotel is the right place to enjoy summer holidays in Austria. The hotel got everything you need to feel fantastic. The rooms are spacious, the terrace is wonderful to enjoy brakfast and dinner and the garden is the perfect place for a hot summer day next to the lake. The gastronomic offer of Koller's is of top quality. Everyday there is a rich breakfast buffet with a special theme - from Italian to Gourmet breakfast. The overall quality is excellent. If you would like to enjoy it even more you should take a refreshing morning swim in the lake or get out and have a run along the lake - both is in front of the hotel and a great thing to start into the day. During the day you can choose between a relaxing day in the garden or to explore the surrounding landscape - the options for hiking and biking are endless. Dinner is served between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM and is delicious. The standard is a five/six course dinner with salad, soup, a starter, main dish, dessert and cheese. The choice of wines is very good. It was a great week at Koller's and I would recommend Koller's to anybody who wants to get away from it all.

a must is a new room; nice garden; hotel really near the lake; new sauna near lake water; gym is poor, no jakuzzi, restaurant in white with a lot of flowers and candles; very profesional girls in restaurant service and also at reception; some mistakes with room maid service; nice - cool beach bar; golf near, tennis just on the other side of the road

In a few years with some new details this could be first 5 star hotel in that part of Austria

I have heard about the hotel and thought I knew what to expect. None of it has prepared me for the worm family atmosphere and excellence at Koller’s. Everywhere in the hotel were placed lighted candels and plenty of bunches of fresh flowers and backets with fruits.

Staff is friendly and very helpful. The rooms were cleaned every day, and kept in good condition.

Location on the lake is just great after the long day on the slopes. The hotel is not in a ski resort, but considering the price- just minutes away and not that far by car. Plus that you have various ski resorts around and each day you are able to ski at a new place.

The spa centre is another one of the great features of the hotel. You can relax in one of the four different saunas, swimming in the lake (which is heated during the winter!!!) or just reading by the indoor fire in the relaxation room.

Food is as good as in 5* restaurant in a capital city.

I will highly recommend the hotel to all my friend and family, willing to ski in Austria and I’m looking forward to go back there next year.

Having lived in Austria for over 12 years, we have sampled many different hotels and lakeside villages. Kollers is right up there among the best we have been to! The location is great with lots of nice extras (free motorboats, sailing boat, free WiFi in all rooms, enough beachlounges, etc). The food, however, is simply exquisite - good selections, decent portions, interesting combinations yet down to earth and good quality food. Will definitely come again. One hint: Book early to get rooms facing the lake!

We spent a couple of days there with friends during the Easter holidays. Even their dog was welcome. The hotel is situated directly on the lake shore (Millstatter See).
Very nice owners, good service, well kept spacious rooms, most with balconies and a nice lake view, good food: breakfast buffet with a good variety for everybody; 5 course dinner (salad and cheese buffet). After dinner guest can meet at the bar (no music).
Nice spa area with indoor and small outdoor pool, sauna, steam bath (included); massage (extra).
Free boats on the lake (one day we took a row boat and went for hours to the next little town Millstatt). Great experience, wonderful scenery, well worth all the blisters especially I got). Millstatt is a nice walk, too (interesting former monastery with church). Only thing is, the combined bike/foot trail along the lake is too close to the road, in summer season there might be too many cars and exhaust fumes.
Another day we went on a guided bike tour around the lake. Good experience for everybody who can ride a mountain bike (good bikes, by the way).
In summer you can go hiking in the surrounding mountains (this year in April there still was some snow, actually our niece even went skiing twice). During our stay they were working on a heated pool directly in the lake.... Wonder how it will be like next time we go there. Lake water is very soft and clear. So the hotel is great to relax and just hang around the lake and the nice garden. We definitley will go back.

  • Liked — The food, the lake view from our balcony and the spa, no noise
  • Disliked — The village of Seeboden. There is no nice centre, the main street is a thoroughfare
