“Good pub food”
Reviewed 30 August 2014

Visited for an evening meal while we were staying at melfort pier, don't be pug off by its outside appearance, it looked a little run down but it's really more traditional inside, all stone floors and walls with a big log fire. Friendly staff and locals. Good choice of meals and the food was excellent. Would definitely visit again.

Pitched up to this Hotel en spec and ravenous. One of our party overheard that the veggie special "was off" and we were considering going somewhere else when one of the bar staff returned from the kitchen and told us that Chef was putting together a veggie chilli dish. We stayed put and enjoyed a good pub meal washed down by two real ales. I had the scallops starter and they were beautifully cooked, chef definitely punching above his weight on the course. The fish and chips were a delight, again beautifully cooked with a home made tartar sauce, yum. Veggie chilli thing got the thumbs up. The bill was very reasonable and we will be back.

The front of house staff were friendly and focussed on us the customer. Well done indeed ladies. This was very much in contrast to an obnoxious customer who was working in the hospitality business somewhere nearby. I'd suggest he needs to look at his organisation rather than trip advisor as to why he has been getting bad reviews. Perhaps obnoxious may help make our minds up………….

I stopped here for a pint while cycling up the west coast of Scotland as I was in need of refreshment. The atmosphere was excellent so decided to sty and what a treat it was. Food excellent and so was the banter with the locals. I will definitely stop here again when I am next in the area

We stayed at Melfort Pier lodges and this was the nearest place good for the wheelchair. When you have Hobsons choice (no choice) its always a little daunting. However, the access was all level but I did not try the toilets.

The food that comes out from the kitchen is staggering. I mean, they have a captive audience but they do not rest on their laurels. The staff in the pub were welcoming and great to have a bit of banter with. There was always a mix of locals and tourists whilst we were having our meal.

The place had a feel of cosiness yet practical. The floor I am sure had seen many a snow filled boot and fire would be most welcome in the winter.

We had a light bite apart from having a pudding as well. The soup was home made and the bakewell tart for me, hit the spot.

So books and covers - this book looked well thumbed and for good reason, its an excellent read. So if you are looking for good food in a local pub, this is the one for you.

An excellent stay in this older historic property. Simon and his lovely wife were cheerful, helpful, and wonderful to stay with. The breakfast was delicios and the food in the bar was excellent. Veryknowledgeable about the area and they bent over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed. We will be back!

We recently had our wedding weekend at the Cuilfaill for 14. The staff, delicious meal, atmosphere and attention to detail couldn't have been better! We will have fond memories of the whiskey bar, the dinner and the decorations for a long time. The cuilfail is a magical little hotel set in stunning countryside. We will all definately return to the future for another wonderful stay.

Yes it is a bit dated and basic but it is clean and price is reasonable. Menu needs to be updated and bit pricey for what's on offer, not much fresh local produce which is always a great shame. But staff were friendly and helpful.
