Considering the size of Boat of Garten, approximatley120 homes this restaurant always appears to be busy which means that a lot of customers are traveling some distance to eat here so a good idea is to make a booking to avoid disappointment. The restaurant itself has a rustic but welcoming feel, specials are shown on chalk boards which add to its style. The food is of an excellent quality and served by helpful waiters and waitresses.
The speciality of the house appears to be a unique mix of pies which are changed daily but you can also chose fish or steak if you prefer.
I have only one complaint and that is that we eat on a Wednesday and when I opened the menu it clearly stated that every Wednesday is Pie day offering pie and a drink for the normal price of the pie meal on its own. when I enquired about this I was informed that this was seasonal !! although it clearly says every Wednesday. Perhaps Mr Anderson needs to qualify his offer to avoid confusion. So then looking at the drinks a bottle of average Chilean Merlot for £18 is I think fairly expensive.
Having said that the food is of a very high standard and very tasty, explaining why it is always busy. We, my wife and I had a main course, sweet, and a bottle of wine for less than £60 which overall is also good value.
