“Food and customer service out of this world, hotel room like nothing on earth!!”
Reviewed 14 March 2014

This is a really good independent hotel with excellent customer service and staff. Prior to arrival we were emailed asking if there was anything they could do to ensure our stay was comfortable, which was a nice touch. This high standard of customer care continued throughout our stay.

The hotel is in a really good location for exploring the Cairngorms National Park, with the ski resorts only about 15 minutes away.

We ate at the hotel restaurant both nights and never felt the need to try other restaurants as the food here was so good. The various soups we tried during our stay were a particular triumph, and the sticky toffee pudding might very well send you to Heaven! The waiting staff really knew the menu and were able to make some good recommendations. The breakfast was equally good giving you a wide choice among both continental and cooked options.

This would be a 5 star review but sadly the dated décor in our room (105) marred the experience. The faded 1980's Laura Ashley chintz of our room, was not in keeping with the tasteful modern décor in the reception/restaurant/bar etc. The mattress was soft, lumpy and in need of urgent replacement. This small room seemed even smaller due to the oversized/excess of furniture. Although I'm sure the bathroom was clean it didn't feel clean due to the tired, worn fixtures and fittings. The shower was nothing more than a trickle. I understand that some bedrooms have been given a makeover - so my advice would be to check when you book and ask whether you're allocated to one of the updated rooms.

Once all bedrooms are modernised this will be a hotel of true distinction. I'd definitely stay again for sure, but would ask for one of the updated rooms, even if it meant paying a little extra. That said our stay was fantastic and the customer service amongst some of the best I've ever experienced.

Room Tip: Some rooms are quite dated and worn. We stayed in Room 105 which I would not recommend. Ask for a...

Staff are friendly and helpful, everything worked well in my room and dinner and breakfast were enjoyable so all in all a comfortable and relaxing overnight stay between 2 busy days of work in the area.

First review I have ever done but felt a need for this hotel. Really enjoyed my stay here. The most welcoming, friendly staff that I have ever came across they were excellent. They even brought my 4 year old daughter cookies and hot milk to the room before bedtime which was such a simple but lovely touch. The room was great with a massive bathroom with free standing bath and separate shower. Food was great and lovely surroundings.

Enjoyed our two night DBB package very much. Room was comfortable and clean but in need of modernisation. Dinner on both nights was excellent and good value. Staff were very friendly and helpful and we will certainly be back.

We really enjoyed our stay here. It came highly recommended, and, as we travel with Tilly (our Westie), being dog friendly is a pre-requisite.The Boat Hotel did not disappoint. We were welcomed with a doggy pack and were upgraded to a lovely room with 4 poster bed and en-suite, which came with a free standing bath. The staff were really friendly, and dinner, in the Bistro and Dining Room, was first class. There is so much to do in the Cairngorm National Park. We will definately be back!

We had a bargain voucher deal, two nights DBB. Room allocated was 104, not one of the modernised ones, but comfortable, clean and warm. Also it is located on the first landing so as everyone traipses past it's not a good choice for peace and quiet. Some issues with the hot water but a new boiler is underway. Also Wifi is free, but intermittent.

Communal areas of hotel were lovely, especially all the open fires. Food exceeded expectations, all hot, fresh and tasty, and a reasonable choice. Drinks however were ridiculously expensive....and we used to live in London! Please realise that people will pay a little more and treat themselves on a weekend away, but feeling ripped off means no repeat bar sales....the Post Office across the road has an excellent selection of wines.

Staff were all friendly and helpful, especially Diane. The staff are really making this hotel work and making up for everything else.

Really recommend the cheese board on the menu....one of the best I have had in ages.

We really enjoyed our two night bed and breakfast stay at The Boat Hotel. The first thing to notice was the wonderful log burning fire in the entrance hall with a couple of armchairs in front of it- truly a warm welcome! The staff are super-friendly and helpful. Our breakfasts were fantastic and we were spoilt for choice! Our room was comfortable and cosy and there was always plenty of hot water.
