Quaint is not an adjective I use too often but it seems oddly appropriate for this hotel. Nice bedroom and breakfast was reasonable. The service at lunchtime was fairly bad. At dinner it was slow but the staff were very keen to please. The food at dinner was good. We thought it very odd that they did not light the log fires which we thought would have made it so welcome.

We stayed 2 nights on a voucher deal, like many others. The highlight was definitely the food and service was also well above average. Our room was not one of the refurbished ones, as we would expect on the deal we got, but the walls are paper thin and the snoring from next door was really aggravating, and the next door bathroom extractor fan was very loud. The water pressure for the shower is pretty poor but the water was nice and hot. The location could hardly be better but as per the title of this review the price of drinks is well over the top. We went almost next door to the golf club and a pint of the same beer, as sold in the Boat, plus a gin and tonic was only 70p more than the price of a pint in the Boat. Glad I'm a member of a local golf club to take advantage.

The location is fantastic, next to a collection of great footpaths and only a stones throw from the golf club. The ski slopes are about 15 minutes away with Aviemore around 8minutes in the car, it is possible to walk there and is a pleasant walk. The bar and restaurant area is traditional and I think it's got the right feel to it. The hotel rooms though need attention, the mattress was uncomfortable and the bathroom needs updating. All that said the food in the restaurant was good, friendly staff with a good choice of alcoholic beverages.

Just back from a 2 day break at The Boat Hotel with friends.
The moment we walked in the front door we were greeted by the cheery receptionist who checked us in. Because one of the rooms was not ready we decided to have a drink in the bar whilst waiting. The barmaid was very welcoming and knowledgable about the wines on offer. There were other members of staff working away quietly in the background. Everyone of them acknowledged us with a cheery, but certainly not over the top, greeting.
Ok, so our room was small and perhaps in need of a bit of TLC but we didn't travel to BoG to spend all the time in our room! The weather was stunning and we enjoyed walking and golfing (at least, two of our party enjoyed golf!)
The evening meals we enjoyed were delicious. For a DB&B deal the table d'hôtel menu was surprising good. The young vibrant staff in this hotel have got to be commended for the friendly and professional manner in which they carried out their duties. Charlotte, in particular, stood out as one who understands the hospitality trade and was able and willing to go the extra mile to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Lindy is another who was bright, cheery and helpful. In the time we were there we didn't quite catch the names of all the staff whom we'd like to thank. However, for young vibrant team they do a superb job and did everything to make our stay in the boat a pleasant experience.
We'll be back, hopefully with all four of us golfing next time!

We visited from 15-17 April on a Living Social Deal: £179 for 2 sharing for 2 nights DBB. It was a good experience, considering the cost, although we were obviously in a non-refurbished room on the second floor at that cost. The room and ensuite, needed a bit of tlc but the staff were lovely and the food was (obv table d'hote menu) really enjoyable, altho choice was limited if we had been on a longer stay. Service from the kitchen was very slow, esp on Wednesday night when we had to complain about a 40 minute wait for our starter, and Thursday morning when there was a long wait for cooked breakfast. The neighbour's children in the adjacent house were very noisy during the afternoon and early evening, making rest impossible before dinner. Boat of Garten is a lovely wee place and very convenient for visiting the surrounding area.

Room Tip: There are suites and rooms on the first floor which were probably superior to rooms on the second fl...

We recently stayed at The Boat Hotel in Boat of Garten. We were there on a voucher deal but did not feel like the owners/staff were snobby about that, as we have experienced in other places. The room was small but had everything we needed and was comfortable. The bistro/restaurant was very good and generous portions meant we had no room for dessert! The wine was good, only complaint is that the bar prices are a bit steep. Overall we had a fantastic time, the hotel was great value, in a great location and provided a great base for exploring both the Cairngorms and Speyside regions. Staff fantastic. Breakfast fab.

Went on a voucher deal but the service didnt reflect that. Nice room, friendly staff (Sean really is a star) a real welcome for Benji the dog - he loved the doggie pack. Had a meal and the food was excellent . We will be going back. Really appreciated the helpfulness and recommendations of all the staff.
