“Excellent Tranquility”

Really enjoyed this hotel. Although it was not far away from the busy A720, this was a real haven of tranquility. Staff were very professional and the Brasserie was great. This was an excellent 'find'.

Stayed overnight in room 7,the mattress needs replacing as it was so hard and extremely uncomfortable. The room was very outdated and needed painting. Breakfast was a let down as not much choice plus a lot of it was cold and the staff were very disorganised. Drinks are a bit expensive.Service all round is poor. The only good thing about it is the castle in situated in a lovely setting. Would we go back, NO.

Room Tip: rooms at the back quieter but enquire about the mattress!

We had a good overnight stay at the hotel and were impressed by the size of the room and the lovely view,
There were a couple of things that let the place down. Our room had not been cleaned on our arrival, wet towels and sanitary waste in the bin from previous occupants, and we had to vacate whilst this happened. It was dealt with promptly and the we were given an apology and complimentary coffees.
The staff were pleasant enough, though we did feel one of them was rather abrubt and surly towards us after we had brought up the problem of the room.
Food in the restaurant was excellent and the barman in the evening was very hospitable.
I did like the castle. It was atmospheric and decor was in keeping with its style.
Would recommend a visit but housekeeping could be much better.

My husband and I booked Melville castle to Celebrate our 42 wedding anniversary. The room was lovely and fresh with twin beds which were maybe a bit narrow!!! But comfortable! Dinner was lovely service excellent no complaints. Breakfast was a buffet not the best buffet I've had! no fresh fruit salad or natural yogurt. Had to ask for toast but did enjoy what we had.facilities could be better my husband and I discovered an old adult adventure playground while out walking in the grounds. This could be repaired for residents to use. Overall a good stay would recommend it if people just want a quiet relaxing break. Staff were friendly and very helpful. not having spa facilities or pool did not detract from us booking.

having grown up near the castle and never actually been or seen it, I thought it would be a nice place to stay with my partner before my sons wedding near by, well we were certainly not dissappointed with anything, very friendly reception area, room was fab, everything you needed, view out of bedroom window was lovely, food was good, felt staff would have done anything they could,if needed to,didn't need it,they certainly made us feel very welcome, would definetly go back and would recommend a stay here.

Room Tip: room 103,perfect

My girlfriend and I went to the Castle using a Groupon voucher for one night bed and breakfast with a two course dinner. The castle is lovely and the location is idyllic but the service is really poor. We reserved a table using the Groupon section of their website but we did not receive any email confirmation. We called the hotel the day before our arrival and spoke to a lady who told us that the reservation had been confirmed. However, on arrival, there was no reservation made and we had to wait while the receptionist called to make another reservation. Our worst stay ever was just starting... Having dropped our bags into our room we went for dinner where we had to wait ONE hour to get our starters. The pasta I had for main course was swimming in thick fatty sauce and therefore not at all good. When we mentioned that to the waiter he took the plate away and didn't seem really concerned. The most disgusting thing about our stay is that when we returned to our room, we found out that the bathroom bin hadn't been emptied and it contained a box of condoms. We called the receptionist who came and used his hands to take out some rubbish and examine it. He then asked us very precise questions about when we arrived, what did we do when we arrived, when did we go to the restaurant, nearly implying we had filled the bin ourselves. He didn't apologize nor wash his hands to open the door of our room after. We then relaxed in the nice big bath in the room but only to find out that using it would leave a persistent moldy smell. Fortunately the night was not too cold so we opened the window to get rid of the smell.

I visited this on a Travelzoo deal 1 night DBB for 2 cost £99.00 we were with friends and at that price it was midweek- it was Fantastic Wonderful Amazing I really think that someone missed the 1 before the 99 in the price . On arrival we justhappened to meet Mr Hay who owes and indeed did the rebuilt of the castle - this was a real highlight he was Soooo nice indeed he approached us and asked if he could give us any details re the castle at this point he had a piece of a vacuum cleaner in his hand !!! Information poured forth and we learned such a great deal he really is a star attraction and should just stand at the door and give this talk to everyone - wonderful. Our accomodation was classic and we did not expect a great deal - we were so mistaken although our room had velux windows it was big bright and airy- fully equipped with iron, ironing board, hairdryer tea making facilities lots of fluffy towels a very comfortable bed and a flat screen television - our friends had a lovely room that overlooked the gardens at the back - stunning views over the gardens to the river. The staff could not have been nicer - helpful always and very pleasant. Food selection was rather limited however we had 4 different meals and no-one left a morsel - it was all washed down with a rather nice bottle of wine from a not extensive wine list. So all in all I would recommend anyone to go and stay at Melville castle .. truly an experience not to be missed - good accomodation - wonderful surrounding - great meal - and fantastic staff.

Room Tip: If your budget runs to the 4 poster then it would be worth the extra for the experience however the...
