We stayed here as it was within walking distance of the reception venue (Sandhole Barn) for a friend's wedding. Our room was fine - nothing special but certainly did the job, and was actually quite well appointed with an iron, ironing board, trouser press, kettle, etc. The only issue was that the shower nozzle stand was broken, but this was really a fairly minor inconvenience.
Service was very friendly both at breakfast and in the evening in the pub, where the staff even organised karaoke and games for us (we were a big group of friends with the groom the night before his wedding). Overall, happy with the choice.

Can't comment on food, as having to be at breakfast for 8.30am on a Sunday morning is a bit harsh! Even though check out time is 10.30am, we had the cleaner knocking on our door at 10! (Considering there's only 4 rooms and check in time is after 2pm I don't know what the rush was!).
Room was very basic, and in need of a refurb. Stains of spillages etc. The location was what led me to make the booking and the only thing I can say is save yourself 25 quid and book a better quality hotel, and pay the taxi fare!
A travel lodge would be considered a luxury hotel compared to this place!

Have just spent three nights at The Waggon & Horses, near Congleton with five golfing friends. We were accommodated in three modern, clean, twin rooms with full facilities, conveniently next to the pub/restaurant. The breakfasts were excellent, with home-cured bacon and home-made spicy sausages. The dinners were from an extensive menu, so much so that we ate at the restaurant each night, something we have not done in previous golf tours. The food was first class, the Hop Circle a superb pint and the service was friendly and very helpful.Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a great experience.

Booked this for one night based on previous good reviews of food - we were disappointed! The meal we had was average but nothing special, My curry came with a popadum that was dripping with oil & inedible, the best I can say about the curry is that it was OK but have had much better & breakfast was alright but the bacon was too salty and again too greasy. In the bedroom the bedding and bathroom were clean but the mattresses were clearly old and well used, the decor was dark and depressing - would benefit from a refurbishment to clean it up and make it lighter. No bath mat was provided so we had to use one of the towels. There was no welcome note or useful information - we figured out for ourselves that the shower had to be switched on outside the bathroom. Check out was by 10.30 but when we came to hand in the keys at 10.15 no one was around despite calling and knocking on doors so we had to leave the keys on the bar - not great customer service. Did not consider it worth £75.

Lovely sunny day, this pub beckoned us in to re-energise our journey. We ordered at the bar then sat in the sunshine with our drinks. We'd ordered 3 different meals but didn't have to wait long before they all arrived together. One curry that was reported as splendid, the boy declaring his burger and chips as just right but my bacon chops was exceptional. The chips reminded me of the old-fashioned 'cooked in dripping' but I don't know if that was the case, the bacon chops were special; thick as gammon and locally sourced I believe, and the pair of fried eggs looked like two suns and tasted wonderful. Love dipping chips into a dippy yolk. An enquiry proved that the hens that laid the golden eggs are owned by the lady who pulled my pint. How local is that? Compete with all the trimmings, the meals were very well received, washed down with Sam Smith's finest. On 21st June 2013, with drinks it cost a total of £30 for the 3 of us.
Can't comment on the accommodation as we were just passing by, but what a good 'pull-up-for-carmen'. Will return soon perhaps to try their home-made sausages.

In February this year, I rang to book two double rooms B&B at this pub for 1 night in June and paid a deposit on my credit card. Unfortunately, I had to cancel a week later, but was told by the owner that my deposit would be retained if he couldn't re-let the accommodation. This was even though the pub's website states quite clearly that if you cancel more than 48 hours before the scheduled check-in time, your deposit will be fully refunded. I cancelled four months before the scheduled check-in time but was still told that my deposit would not be refunded unless the room was rebooked. This condition was not stated anywhere on the website or in the confirmation of booking. I therefore held the owner to be in breach of contract and have finally been able to obtain a refund of my deposit from my credit card provider. I have not stayed at this pub before - and never intend to do so now - so cannot comment on the quality of the accommodation or food.

Had a couple of meals now at The Waggon & Horses since new chef Mark took over the kitchen & menu and its fantastic! All produce is freshly prepared. Mark only uses local meat, fish & veg so that the true flavour can be truly appreciated. They also cure their own bacon, make their own sausages & have locally produced cheeses which can all be enjoyed in the restaurant and are also sold for you to take with you and enjoy again at home!! We can certainly recommend doing that!!

If its some time since you've been to The Waggon please i would encourage you to give it another try. The food is second to none. You won't be disappointed!!
