Stopped by for a drink and bar meal whilst on a 9 mile walk around Thixendale. Very cosy, very friendly atmosphere. Beer was excellent (guest beer Jennings). Food, we had sandwiches and chilli, tasty and well priced. Will visit again. Landlord couldn't have been more friendly and chat with other customers was very friendly, one couple walking the Wolds Way and other couple on holiday. Location brilliant in the heart of the best quiet landscape in the country.

We spent two nights at the Cross Keys Steve & Mary where brilliant, rooms where fresh and clean and extremely comfy. The breakfast was more than filling and of good quality (no supermarket bacon or sausage) also had our evening Rump steak one the best I have had.
Well worth a visit and good value.

My wife and I stayed here for 1 night in Aug 2012. We cycled there and Steve met us and locked our bikes away and made us feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was small but very cosy and had everything you could want except a TV but sometimes it is nice to be away from all that. Similarly there was no mobile phone reception but they let us use their landline and it was nice not to have to check your phone all the time. The evening meal was okay but not as good as I had hoped it would be but the breakfast was sensational. One of the best I have had (and I have had quite a few!) and all reasonably priced too. We shall be returning.

June 2012 we 2 couples spent a night here in the wonderfully refurbished dwellings next to the pub. Steve who runs the pubs was really friendly and helpful. In such an isolated rural spot, in the same valley as the 3 trees David Hockney painted, Lin wondered if she there was going to be a vegetarian option. There were several and the 2 courses she chose were both the best of our fortnight holiday. The breakfast was also good. Steve told us Hockney had sat painting the terrace and pub last year. I hope the result is as good as our stay there.
