Description: Our Hotel was in the history the St.Michaels Girls School build 1876. The Mount Hotel has been owned by our family beginning of 2011 and the building was in a derelict condition, the owner have had nothing done in the last 15 years on the building, therefore we wanted to create a hotel for Malton to be proud of and the building is it worth. All rooms are painted with mineral paints - soundproofed, best insulations and the highest standart central heating for best comfort. Maybe we are not perfect, but we will do our best for you. We like to talk with our guests and we will served our food everytime only with fresh products from local suppliers. Finally we would like to create a Hotel in 4 star quality for everyone. We are family-friendly, not extravagant or arrogant.Hopefully you will find the Mount Hotel traditional and relaxing with a little bit atmosphare of Alpine, Bavaria and traditional british style. At the moment we will serve the breakfast in the bistro, but after the renovation we will serve it in the breakfast room. We look forward to welcoming you to the new refurb Mount Hotel.

This basement bar in The Mount Hotel is a little bit of Germany in the market town of Malton. Tastefully designed with wood almost everywhere. A nice touch is the tv screen behind a false window frame, complete with curtains, showing various views of mountains and other Germanic landscapes; I appreciate small things amuse small minds, but it is just something different whilst admiring this little bar. Some interesting table stools fashioned from upholstered tree stumps (there is a double-header if you want to cosy-up) and old tractor seats for bar stools. No hand-pulled English beer here. But an impressive selection of continental lagers and biers to keep you entertained. Chatty and friendly landlord who explained the tale behind the absolutely mad cuckoo clock. It is the result of three not working clocks being cannibalised into one "working" model. You have to guess how many times the bird calls each time it pops out. The hands on the clock bear no resemblance to the number of calls from this avian automaton. Well worth a visit for a different but pleasant experience. I'll be back, danke sehr!

This is a review of the Mount as a hotel - since it does not yet appear under that category.
Where do you stay when invited to a party in Yorkshire on the Tour de France weekend, with every known hotel fully-booked? Answer - at a hotel so new that it hasn't yet made it onto Tripadvisor as a hotel (the restaurant has been open for a couple of years now.) The Mount is a handsome building opposite the now well-known and expensive Talbot. So far only a handful of rooms are renovated, but more are being worked on. The rooms have been done up in neutral beige with pine furniture the only nod to the owners' German origins. The bathroom was pristine with an excellent powerful shower, although the bathroom light is triggered by a motion-sensor, so there is no hope of not disturbing your partner by going to the loo in the dark. Because the hotel is on the main road into Malton noise at night is a problem, but if you are kept awake you can console yourself that the Talbot guests are probably suffering just as much and paying at least twice as much for the privilege.

Because the hotel side was so new when we stayed, rough edges were still being ironed out and staff trained, but the friendly and relaxed attitude of the owners suggested that this could become a very pleasant place to stay. At the moment it is very much a restaurant with rooms - there did not appear to be any lounge. The dog was made welcome although the owners understandably requested it not be left alone in the room for long periods.

If there were a rating between Average and Very Good I would have given it. At £90 B&B for two it is good value. The continental breakfast was generous and enjoyable, including meats and cheeses. The English variety was large but basic. Apart from muesli no cereals were put out although possibly if we had asked some might have been brought. We did not use the restaurant, as the New Malton is only a few minutes walk away.

The owners deserve every encouragement to persevere with their renovations and one hopes that in time they may have the confidence to put a more personal stamp on this fine old building. Leave beige to the chain hotels!

The Mount Hotel is finally fully open after a long legal wrangle and the bar/restaurant in the lovely old stone cellar has been renovated. It is a bit like a proper rathskeller but with large arched windows overlooking the hills and an outdoor patio - and cowhide covered benches and stools! There are proper German sausages and always some interesting specials. Last time we were there, to watch the Germany v USA World Cup game, we had a fantastic braised oxtail with beautiful green beans cooked with onion, bacon and caraway and bratwurst for a song, price wise. The beer might be a little more than the usual lager, but is far better - proper German beer. Past dishes included pulled pork which was juicy and incredibly tender and Schweinshaxe (pig's knuckle) that fed us for three meals! Give it a try for a change from the usual British fare.

A birthday treat, a fantastic authentic German meal, Schnitzel, probably the best I've tasted. Krombacher Pilsner on tap, refreshing and malty. They also have weiss beer on tap too. We stayed in the hotel with it's newly renovated rooms which are large and airy. The bed was very comfy and the shower was amazing.. almost a massage.
The traditional English breakfast was very good, certainly plenty to set you up for the day.
However the greatest thing is the very freindly and welcoming hosts, nothing is too much trouble.
If you want a taste of Germany, but without the travel, this is the place.

Recently refurbished, a great place for a beer. The Currywurst goes down great with a German beer, with the staff being very helpful.
Its too easy to drink too much Snapps and Jagermeister
